Just fabulous! By around 1960 I recall two types of owner in France. There was Papa with numerous children driving an old smoker absolutely flat out and there were bourgeois elderly gents who would be out on Sundays having a gentle tootle around. I have always thought that Andre Lefebvre was an infinitely greater engineer than Issigonis.
A remarkable body on an extraordinary car. I briefly owned a 1952 11BN (avec malle). A glorious, comfortable zephyr of a car. I also (bizarrely) got a lift in a late-model Commerciale like this while hitching in southern France in 1981. We all squashed into the front, as the owner was carrying a huge load of brushwood. Probably over 30 years old, very scruffy and rusty, but with a vignette and still working for a living. I wish I'd taken a pic at the time....but camera phones hadn't been invented. On the body style, it was really more of an estate (break de chasse), although not sold as such. In the 30s, 40s and 50s, cars were very rare and very costly, so a family car that doubles as a workhorse makes a lot of sense. And French car makers were always blurring that line. On language, it is Traction Avant, not Avante. But that is quibbling. This is a lovely review of a car that was a hugely significant part of the motoring story. Chapeau!
A good video of a favorite car. The sound was... different and I could rationalize it for awhile as a true sound of riding in the Traction Avant but I didn't complete the video. Maybe an audio edit to save it for the future?
3:57 owner making sure you wiped your shoes before climbing in the back!! 😂😂 At least it has a conventional H pattern as opposed to the 2CV with the funky gear change, tricky at first but once you're used to it very intuitive to use.
What a classic and beautiful designed car 👌🏻 those Frenchies so clever , oh and glad to see the owner wouldn’t let you more than arms length distance away from him 😂😂 , I wouldn’t either to be honest 😉, good video Matt .
I think I'm in love - so cool, so french and so very ahead of its time. Of all the interesting cars I've seen watching this channel over the years I think this is the one I'd want to have above all others. The only drawback is that someone may mistake me for a superannuated Gestapo officer on the run ...because like many great cars the bad guys loved them too.
A colleague purchased one of these as he spoke French and then lived there for some years. I remember watching the original Rupert Davies black and white BBC MAIGRET series where these cars featured as well as in post war films as the Gestapo favoured them in occupied France.
Yes, even if they had to pay with beinmg bankcrupt and André Citroen eventually died poor and alone. But sometimes this is the price to pay for being so far ahead of it's time,
Spectacular car for it's era, still looks tres chic, with a 4 speed it seems pretty driveable, and all that space would make it genuinely practical. Pity about the gopro, good save with the voiceover.
Wow, a beautiful classic and a dream to own I'm sure! Sound was a bit off, electrical interference from unshielded high tension maybe? Fantastic review though
Hatchback? Mmmm... no. "Estate" would be a better description, although the "hatchback" nomenclature is so blurry these days. To me, "first hatchback" belongs to either the Fiat 127 or the Renault 16. Some might even chuck the Austin A40 Countryman into that.
I used to see a light blue one on the M11 (south of the M25) heading into London many times during rush hour. Glad to see one was being used daily

**apologies for the poor in car audio, GoPro failing again..**
Get a new one. Was really looking forward to this and poor sound ruined it.

Citroen also opened a factory in England to build these. It was in Slough.
Yes, they also produced 2CVs there too.
As the speedo is in km presumably the mileometer is a kilometerometer?
This Citroen will be going strong long after the offending FauxPro has been sympathetically smashed into a million pieces. And in great style.

The audio from the interior while driving made my windows rattle, but what a fascinating car.
GoPro fail

Le good guys had no problem resisting these cars - and Resistance was not ultimately futile! 😄
Love the prewar and postwar cars, thanks for posting Matt, much appreciated 😊👍
Sacre Bleu! My favourite pre war car. Magnifique! ❤
Excellent review Matt, there is one near me which is used daily by its owner, a lovely looking car.
not many 7- or 80 year old cars you can daily drive!
My father had a similar as seven seater countryside taxi from 1959 to 1962. It was his second TA. Lovely car with excellent ride quality.
Hide behind the sofa kids, Matt turns into a Dalek during this video. EXTERMINATE!
I saw three commercials before your commercial to watch the commercial😅🤸😅🤸😀🤸😀🤸
Marvelous car. I loved the mechanical clockwork indicators! Great French ingenuity for the era.

You can enjoy the Davies "Maigret" again on a Saturday night now thanks to Talking Pictures TV 🙂
What an enchanting car in every way and Citroen really were the leaders of technology decades before any other brand! Great video Matt

These cars are always my favourite of all the Citroens. I have an owners manual because l couldn't find one in my budget range. Lovely car
Fabulous horn.
Far too many ads...i realise of course that you make money from them but please don't kill the goose!
Could you elaborate on the Mondeo drive shafts please?
I really did nearly buy one once from the classic car show in Manchester
Majorly photo/video bombed at 3:50..😂😂
There were many of this model in Morocco and Algiers.
In Ww2 German used those Traction Avant as Stafcars from the Wehrmacht.
Years ahead of its time.citroen are amazing
Didn't fancy dressing for the part!?
I'm sure a good Fedora would suit! 🙂
That 1940s microphone 😩. As ever, an enjoyable watch 👍
The audio was very rough!
gopro failed
@@furiousdriving Still a very enjoyable video though. I'd rather a bit of rough audio than no video at all. We know it's not your fault Matt!
Could have muted the rough audio and put subtitles.
8:58 honk!
Yup …that’s a proper horn
@@steveosshenanigansI agree
Hi Just worked out that the start of tis film was filmed at the top end of the Carriage Way in Corsham out side the timber yard. Am I correct
I couldn't tell you, I didnt know the area
Gorgeous car but cut short the viewing due to the appalling sound. What went wrong?
GoPro mic sockets fail often
@@furiousdriving yeah, they can suffer inbuilt issues. Best of luck
A truly great car. What's staggering is it took Ford nearly 40 years, to make a car(Fiesta), that anyway compares to this.
Wow, a beautiful classic and a dream to own I'm sure! Sound was a bit off, electrical interference from unshielded high tension maybe? Fantastic review though
Knackered GoPro unfortunately
Guessing that was the owner wandering into shot earlier
Ruined by the Davros impersonation on the drive, what a shame!
Liked the rest of it though.
Add soundproofing and plastic wheel arch liners to classic cars and they're the bees knees 😅😊😅😊
Bad audio on drive😞
gopro failure

Handsome beast. Looks almost like hot rod
Yeah front doors make sense people forever having trouble fitting feet in restricted by the doors thickness.
Yipee I'm 500th today. This is one of my favourite cars Matt.
They are beautiful!
Pity about the sound.
GoPro failure
Hi, just to say there's no 'e' at the end of "Avant", never ! 😊
corrected!
There's a new 🤓 hubnut collaboration between mr furious 🤓 and a crown vic lets weld up the the crown vic hubnut can weld 😊😮 nice citroen 👍
Hi matt 😊
hello!
Not sure why you’d want an aperitif whilst driving, sacre bleu!
Même la version courte de cette voiture est suffisamment spacieux pour profiter de Sofia Boutella sur le siège arrière...😋🤤😛💋💟
Is that car haunted by a previous owner?
Just needed a stinky French cigarette and the right hat and you could double for Maigrét in it.
Right colour and size to transport mourners at a funeral. ⚰
Awful sound quality mate.
