The Paratroopers are regular airborne soldiers who function as (airborne infantry). This means that they are elite infantrymen who are capable of being PARA dropped behind enemy lines, from where they can make way for the regular infantry, and connect with them.

I like that you always put in more details at the comment section. You earned urself a new subscriber
Eh not necessarily they weren’t always connecting with infantry for example Normandy invasions the 101st was told to sabotage behind German lines going through Africa & Italy through allied territory to then go into Normandy at the time to then get to blowing up German defensive shit to make it easier on allied infantry to get up that beach head and take & secure land. So they were used in what would be considered special operations at the time but special forces essentially wasn’t a concept at the time
From what I’ve heard, they are not so elite anymore. They were during ww2 though
It's just para, right? Not PARA. It's not an abbreviation.
2nd Lieutenant George C. Rice was a Supply Officer for the 10th Armored Division. When he found out that the Airborne was woefully under-equipped for battle due to being rushed from Mourmelon to reinforce the Allied defense against the German advance at the Battle of the Bulge, he, of his own volition, took a jeep, loaded it with as many blankets, rations, grenades, and ammo cans as he could, and raced to resupply the 506th before the Germans arrived.
He completed a total of 9 supply runs, the 7th and 8th of which occurred _during_ the German attack, and the ninth and final one was made _after_ the Germans had completely encircled the entire 101st Division, meaning he had to drive _through_ the German lines to get to the soldiers and then _again_ to get back out.
He was preparing a tenth run when he was given a direct order to stand down. For his bravery, Rice was awarded the Bronze Star and nominated for the Medal of Honor.
Logistics and supply is completely underrated.
You can’t win wars without logistics. The sooner combat arms soldiers understand that the better.
Pretty cool they managed to give his story a little screen time
@@Klinsmann1985.

With as much as he did, he should have been awarded the Medal of Honor.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is the comment I was looking for. Good one.
Jimmy Fallon needed two people to push his Jeep
there was also 45 takes because he kept giggling and touching his guests.

also, hire an actor that cant drive stick shift.
@@InternaIRevenueService Jeeps require to double clutch. Fuck it up and you'll vaporize the gears. It was safer to not do it for an original anyhow.

@wingzero7X you're right, also jonesy and duddits
Also, Jimmy Fallon from The Tonight Show. I love this Series and Pacific Series too. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant
the main actor from shaun of the dead and hot fuzz
It was HBO, and their most expensive series ever made at that point
Winters: "We're paratroopers, Luietenant. We're supposed to be surrounded."
Lt. Fallon: *Starts laughing and clapping*
Winters: Just get to a singing or skit/game Jimmy
I laughed way too hard at this comment.
that is why they made a cut at that moment :)

Having never sat down and watched all of Band of Brothers I was shocked to find out that Jimmy Fallon is in it 😅
I’m so glad that kid made it out alive. He went on to be a star at SNL and then he got his own late night talk show. Those were the good ol’ days
He also hosted MTV Movie Award Shows with Kirsten Dunst a couple times
He's a sell out now.
😂😂😂
Thought I k ew that voice from somewhere.
And turned that talk highly rated, long running talk show into total garbage.
Yeah, I've seen enough Jimmie Fallon to last a fucking lifetime, and this is coming from someone who legitimately used to love the movie taxi 🤦🏻
The only time someone said that Jimmy Fallon was a Godsend
Solid.
Fact😂
It would be if it's an improve after many takes they have to do ( according to other comments )
I wish there was a deleted scene where Fallon stops for a nap and they drop Jay Leno in from a plane to get the mission back on track. There are episodes of “Jay Leno’s Garage” on UA-cam that get more views than Fallon’s “Tonight Show” and it’s literally only appealing to automotive enthusiasts. Leno wasn’t constantly hilarious or anything when he had the Tonight Show but he wasn’t trying to be, he let his guests have the spotlight and did good, solid interviews. Fallon seems so needy for all the attention to be on him it’s just off-putting.
“They’ve got us surrounded - the poor bastards."
“We can shoot in every direction now.”
They don't have us surrounded, we've got them surrounded........From the inside. ☠😂
I love that 😁 time to rewatch Band of Brothers.
That's what the taliban said to all branches of the US military in 2021 before they sent them running for their lives back to the USA.🤣🤣🤣
@thedarkerarchery3553 Uhhh..... are you serious? Do you really think the U.S. military was defeated rather than given only so many soldiers and only so much logistical backing and, or pulled out before they were able to finish the job? All due to Politicians pulling the forces out of the country as opposed to being pushed out because of defeats in combat? Yooouurr rrreally Not that........ uhhh, silly..... are you?
My dad was a paratrooper in my countries military. When he saw this he laughed and when I asked him why he just said "target rich environment"
And? You going anywhere with that?

*"We're Paratroopers, Lieutenant; We're supposed to be surrounded."*
It's such a badass line, and one of my favorite ironies of the war. The poor Krauts surrounded troops specifically trained for that exact scenario. My uncle died about 40 miles down the line from Bastogne, two weeks after the Battle of the Bulge ended.
The way he said is sounds like "the calvary has arrived we will take over and you did a good job but ooh boy they don't know whats coming"
A fair contender is what King Leonidas said to The Persians at The Battle of The 300:
Persian Soldier: “By dawn you will be completely surrounded…”
Leonidas: “We are SPARTANS when are we NOT!!”

surprised he wasn't cracking up laughing while delivering his lines.
Lieutenant, you're a godsend.
*insert laugh track and Fallon faking laughing as hard as he humanly can*
I forgot Fallon was an actor.
According to this scene not a good one
So did he.
He's a shitty of an actor as he is a talk show host
I think of him as more a clown than actor.
He was also in Almost Famous
"RETREAT ? HELL,...we Just got here !" ☆
That’s a ww1 Marine saying but definitely applies to the fighting spirit of the US military
Isn't that from the 5th Marines?
Legend has it they had to use 12 cameras for this scene and not tell Fallon which one was shooting
This is the best thing Fallon has done in his career.
Loved that line from my paratroopers in COH, "We're meant to be surrounded"
I knew a guy who jumped on D-Day with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. No one achieved more with less than the Canadians on D-Day. It really saddens me how history completely ignores such courageous men.
You are surrounded!
Good. No matter where I aim, I will be pointed in the right direction.
"Good, then we can fire in all directions!"
I think BofB did a great disservice to the 28th ID by portraying them in this way. If it hadn't been for the 28th and specifically the 110th and 109th Regiments, Bastogne would likely have fallen before the 101st Division got there. The division was rebuilding after sustaining over 6000 casualties in the Hurtgen forest the month prior and was covering a 20-mile front when the Germans attacked. The 110th took over 2700 casualties in the first three days of the battle. They didn't run, they traded lives for time. They defended several key crossroads between the Our and Clef RIvers(Hosingen, Consthum, Marnach) against three German divisions before being overwhelmed. They also denied the Clerf River crossing at Clervaux for several days, which threw off the German timetables and delayed them just long enough for the 101st to deploy around Basogne.
I guess they should have written their own book and script then
All they did is show a worn out soldier following his leaders. The point was to show that they were headed into bad stuff not to call these guys out, which is why they don’t name their unit. Calm down.
@@stooch66 Well from what he said it wasn't really a massacre so much as a grindhouse slaughter. So it is portrayed a bit poorly. He is portrayed like he had just experienced combat for the first time and experienced an overwhelming defeat. Not like he'd been in combat for a week in a prolonged war of attrition.
@@rollastudent Not every unit had the ear of Stephen Ambrose, unfortunately.
It doesn't even make sense why they would be evacuating from Bastogne to begin with. They're able bodied soldiers with clothes and ammunition. Is there a more important place other than the Ardennes that they're heading to? I understand the point of this scene, but yea, it doesn't really fit within the context of the actual battle.
We are surrounded? That’s great! Now, we can attack in every direction!
Best line in the entire series.
One of the greatest shows of all time
I like Jimmy as an actor more than a host.
Thank you for your service private Fallon

This was before he became the King of Aquilonia.
Did Conan shrink and dye his hair?

I absolutely Love this show, my heart breaks every single time I watch it knowing that out honored Veterans of WWII are all gone now.
Not all gone, but many are for sure.
The last quote says it all
Alamo in the Ardennes is the book about all the men who sold their lives dearly slowing the Germans down so that the 101rst could have time to get to Bastogne. Without those forgotten heroes, Bastogne would have turned out differently and more men would have died to retake the territory lost.

Not well mentioned in Histories was that the men depicted retreating in disorder were most likely survivors from elements of Team Cherry 10th Armored and CCR 9th Armored Division, plus troops from the 28th Infantry Division that were caught between two German forces and pounded to bits by artillery on the Longvilly Road near Margeret.

An army that does not stop cannot lose
My grandfather served with the 101st during World War II. He was trained as a paratrooper but the Army placed him with the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment instead. He nearly lost his toes to frostbite during the Battle of the Bulge. He had to be airlifted to England in order to save his toes.

Outstanding show, I Bing watched it not too long after I got for Ft. Campbell when I first got into the Army.
What they are doing is showing the talk of the the day the moment the paratroopers historically found out a ss panzer division was stationed nearby to do its repair or refuel round and the germans put it in to fight next to other rag tag divisions who fought in normandy discovering they are heavily outgunned and outmanned wich is historically correct
LT. Fallon: (laughs) Let me just tell you, you're the greatest.
LT. Fallon meets another soldier: You're just the greatest.

Jimmy de niro fucking nailed it
My grandpa was a paratrooper. He had a brevard golf hat he wore that I found the other day. I lost my mom at the same time I found it so it’s been a big comfort. I’m really thankful for what he did. Mom used to say he could work the field all day, before my health declined I aspired to be the same. She said he saved a life of another in his company and was shot when he carried the other man back. They hit 20 miles behind enemy lines and had to make their way back to the front because of a bad jump. He received a Purple Heart I think and came back to the area and opened a radio station.
Just now, realizing Jimmy Fallon had a part in band of Brothers.
You make me wanna watch the whole series again

Reminds me of a quote attributed to then-Colonel Chesty Puller at the battle of Chosin Reservoir in December 1950 when told he and his men were outnumbered by 26-1 by Chi-Com soldiers: “We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded.
