Real talk I love how community is done in this show. Even tho Andy found the people around her boring and wanted to move away, when she was in about to get her azz beat, everyone came to her defense. despite knowing noting about fighting, they weren't bout to let somebody come for their own.
How in God's name am I just now hearing about this show when I'm constantly on the lookout for stuff with black protags. *Edit* oh I guess its pretty recent.
Andy is one of my favorite characters and I love how her parents supported her dreams in the end( even though they have any right to be weary at first). And I love how the animation flow in the fight scenes. And I love the world building and how it show that wrestling is engraved in this society.
This show gives big My Hero Academia vibes. Especially since the protagonist is born at the “bottom” and there’s a bit of a hierarchy between wrestlers and the rest of the world.
Andy is definitely becoming one of my favorite black MCs. Also, if you do plan on wanting the full story of Dragon Ball, the manga gonna be your best bet if you aren’t willing to sit through the entire anime. The early parts tho have that extreme pervy Dr. Slump (Toriyama’s first hit manga before DB) humor towards the girls with Bulma at the forefront of it at the start. (there’s also Jim Crow ass black character designs unfortunately)
They aren't Jim Crow black character designs tho because the characters themselves don't have those stereotypes. And yes there are black people with dark skin and red lips, they exist. You're the one who chooses to call it a stereotype though. Like the black dude in the RR Army is one of the best members of RR and was a final boss.
@ Look in the manga or the anime with the background characters as well as Officer Black and then look at certain depictions of how black people were drawn around the 30s. Some black people do have large lips yea but none have donut shaped lips irl. Mr. Popo the only exception cause he was inspired by the deity Mahkala. Yes they didn’t have stereotypical behavior from around that era however Toriyama was influenced by not only 101 Dalmatians but also older Walt Disney films which don’t have the best portrayal of not only black folks but POC in general. Is it possible he didn’t know about those tropes being racist? Maybe. We don’t know for sure. They have rectified how the black characters in Dragon Ball have looked in recent times so there is that
@@samalton5837 there is some influence. Given the context to when toriyama was growing up; the aftermath of ww2 and the american occupation at the time. A lot of minstrel media made its way to japan. One being *Dakko-Chan*. An inflatable doll with black skin, a circular red mouth, grass skirt, closed eyes and its arms out in a "hugging" pose.
I love how the show is influenced by various animes. The show feels like a passing of the torch from My Hero Academia since the manga recently ended this year. Even some of the ost reminds me of some animes. I swear some of the fight music and battle montages sound like remixes from My Hero Academia. Craig's main theme reminds me of Leorio's theme from Hunter x Hunter. The shows instantly hooked me when she goes to the new city and meets the people at the Busters saloon as well as Craig and Mikey.
I started to love this show the moment I saw the trailer and I am happy to see another good black representation with Andy and her family. Let's hope the series continues to do well and not end abruptly because it is getting old that good shows with good storylines being canceled, leaving them incomplete.
Any show that looks like it will get appeal from an older audience gets on Adult Swims because type of shows typically perform better in that block. The main Cartoon Network block is only wants to count the intended younger audience members
I like Invincible Fight Girl too. It's nice to see another black female lead in an animated series. I've only watched the first episode but I'm gonna catch up on the other four episodes. Thankfully, it's available on Hulu cuz I refuse to get HBO Max.
Thank you for boosting this show's awareness, I've been waiting for it to come out since it was announced! A pity how David Zaslav diminished CN's visibility as a brand of it's own ever since the merger...
I really love this show. As it combines wrestling, with shounen inspired cartoons into something palatable to an all ages audience. Andi is the cherry on top with being a black fem protag. I hope it can can get at least 3 seasons.

I NEED 3 SEASONS AND A MOVIE!

The kind of show I needed after moon girl got canceled. It also reminds me sm of OK KO aswell.
OK KO FAN :0

The first episode is free to stream on Adult Swim’s UA-cam channel
It’s a new show that came out in the last few weeks on HBO! I started watching last week and I’m hooked!
still i’ve only seen a few ads for it. it needs more attention early on cuz the companies care about initial viewership a lot.

I hope whatever studio in charge of S2 gives the same production quality of S1.
RIP Cartoon Network Studios…

@ I think it’s implied she’s a young adult. They never really outright state her age in the episodes so far
@@spin08 i assumed she was a kid based on how ppl talk to her lol

Loving this era of animation! I hope this show doesn't get done dirty too

I really enjoyed this show (still don’t know why they dumped it on adult swim instead of Cartoon Network when they dehydrated of content)

They better put her in MultiVersus.
