They used a tape machine, and hand cut and spliced ....still to this day one of the best recorded albums of all time. Audiophiles like myself still use it to this day to test new equipment and speakers....
It's also the sound of cash registers opening and closing, but I'm not sure if young people these days have ever seen cash registers like that. Just as many have never heard the kind of clock sounds at the beginning of "Time."
@@plk5520 Know what? I've heard that song hundreds of times, and am playing it in my head right now. I can't figure out what you mean. Can you elaborate?
I absolutely love Pink Floyd, everything is so emotionally stirring. Everything is perfection with these artists. Seeing people react to this perfection for the first time makes it all the better. It never gets old.
Scribe I like that you are appreciating classics such as Pink Floyd. I have been listening to Pink Floyd since I was a kid back in 1973 when Dark Side Of The Moon was released.
Thank god I was able to see this hall of Fame band in concert, twice. '88? At the UNIDOME, Ceder Falls Iowa was the first. The pig flew right over my head! Top 5 concerts I've ever seen. And I've seen ALOT of concerts...
Old time mechanical cash registers used to make a “Cha-Ching” when the drawer popped open before electronics. This is way before sampling, so they probably recorded it and spliced the tape together in the mixing process.
I went to see the LIVE "Dark Side Of The Moon" tour at Earls Court London, went in straight (sober) came out, after music, lights & special effects (including exploding rocket) feeling like I was tripping on acid. What a Show.
As the "hit single" (a very rare thing for a Pink Floyd album), Money is probably the most played (over the years) and most under-rated track these days. Other tracks seem to get more hype lately (e.g. Comfortably Numb, etc.) IMHO, it's an absolute masterpiece, and still thrills and chills every time I hear it. Sweetie....You're a joy to watch. Sadly, GENUINE reactions are few and far between here. It's obvious you feel it and you "get it". First listen reactions are great, but great tracks always seem to get better with age.
you're having the same reaction i had in the summer of '73.....knowing then....this is the best we're gonna hear til some big dog knocks us off the mountain.....hasn't happened in 45 yrs......it gets better from here on in....their production regiment is unmatched.....can't find another band that gives the best every fucking time....this album will be # 1....every year til we die
OMG.....u are hella perfect...u remind me of my granddaughter sssssooooo much...she is 19 n was raised to appreciate all music...we used to play air drums n guitar all the time...
I think you're getting it now!! There is no other band like Pink Floyd and there never will be. Pink Floyd is my favorite band and David Gilmour is my Rock God!!
Loved your reaction, Scribe. You were really getting into the song, and that saxaphone caught you off guard. Your insight into the meaning was pretty much right on point. Looking forward to more of your Pink Floyd journey
The samples of the coins at the beginning was done by manually splicing the tape with a razor blade, and reassembling it to make it match the beat (back in the late 80s, I worked as a recording engineer; I did this. But the way they did it is VERY difficult!) The main part of the song is in 7/8 time. Most songs you count 1, 2, 3, 4. This song you count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (although the middle with the guitar solos is in 4). Very few rock songs do this.
One of the best things about Floyd is the depth of their sound is like no other. Crystal clear & precise. I'm diggin' your vids Scribe. Your vision is similar to Floyd's sound. You go gurl!
Of all the reaction videos to Pink Floyd's many masterpieces, yours is the first that took me back to my 15yo self hearing this for the first time in 1977. Thank you so much. I hear my Grammom's sage words every day: "It's only money until you need it."
This song has it all. A little bit of funk, a little bit of soul, and a SEARING, SCREAMING KICK-ASS guitar solo by David Gilmour. Great, from the opening cash register/loose change sound effects to the playful interaction between Gilmour and his guitar at the end.
I AM ready to rock n' roll! Damn-I should have answered you 7 months ago! Cool reaction to this great song, and you're right-that bass carries such a great groove. I find I prefer rock music when it does groove like that, because that's what makes you dance. You had an articulate commentary on money as a social construct, which I found impressive, as my talking is usually riddled with "ums" and "uhs"!
Stop right here! Hun, you need to do a reaction to the entire Dark Side of the Moon album! Not 'track by track' with breaks, find this whole album uploaded on youtube and react! Pull up the lyrics and keep them handy, but don't let them get in the way of your groove!
Yeah there's a lot of people that don't understand Pink Floyd music and don't understand why we like it watching your reaction that's exactly why we like it it's funky it's rock gets to your soul it's everything good reaction
What is truly priceless is watching you react to real music. Todays music is about money, me, mine, and how much I got. The difference being that older artists wrote stories about things and events that affected themselves and other people. But the palette of music is so limited now, which is why pro tools actually and auto tune are inhibitors to music.
Been literally listening to pF ALL my life, like this album, DSOTM, came out right as I was born. Felt like we were dancing together as I drove down the interstate. Thx for bringing new life in bands we still love
Great Tune !!! This was their signature tune you heard on every juke box from coast to coast. What a monster hit this was for them. This song was on top the charts for something like ??? 750 weeks. On another note, I wonder if you've ever heard the vocal performance of Barbara Streisand and Chris Kristopherson 1976 film release ( A Star Is Born.) The defining moment he pulled her on stage, insisting she sing " Woman in the Moon." Wow ! What a vocal performance. As the talented singer you are, I just thought you might appreciate this performance, if you haven't seen or heard it yet.
I think it's wonderful that music making has become an easier and more accessible craft to tackle. More creative minds are given the opportunity to reach within their minds to make more amazing music. oops I made a typo, I meant to say: "OK boomer"
Creativity and originality are not the issues that "boomers" and other people with musical knowledge and taste have with music-by-Mac, its the musicianship. If you have that nobody gives a scrap how you made it, but if you can get your Mac to play the sax or guitar like that and I will take my hat off to you before I eat it.
Good grief. Pink is so good. Anything off of Dark Side or The Wall is pure excellence. For a slightly deeper cut, try out "On the Turning Away." It doesn't get nearly as much radio play as many of their other tracks, but it's amazing.
Starts out in 7/4 time, a pretty weird time signature for a pop song, then switches to 4/4 for the solo, reportedly because Gilmour was unable to get a good solo going in that strange time signature.
Going home from school my friend says, my brother won't be back yet and he's just got the new Floyd record - do you want to come and hear it? Blasted the whole DSOTM throughout the empty house - bliss. 😊
So much to hear in this great song! Try listening to one instrument all the way thru is SO HARD! Play drums, bass and guitar to this song but keyboards escape me, WHAT A TRIP!
No sampling in those days. They used existing recordings and some they made, put them on 1/4 inch magnetic tape ans spliced it together in the time signature of the song, which is 7/8 time I believe.
Ultimate Floyd album... a production masterpiece, engineered by Alan Parsons. To think this quality was done the old fashion way in the early 70's is amazing!
Your channel is great, you always get into the jam and just listen. The main riff of the song is in an odd time signature of 7/4, the breakdowns and main solo are 4/4, not common you get chart topping songs in odd time. Absolute catchy asf beat because of that. Alan Parson was the engineer for this concept album. Floyd made the synth popular. Floyd was really the first successful band to play around with concept albums, synths and blending all of that new electronic gear with the new era of mixing consoles that were present at the time. All tape and analog everything. It really was just a bunch of dudes who knew how to play and were into the new gear at the time, and liked to try drugs...Not many bands before floyd were tripping acid and writing cutting edge music with the most advanced audio toys around at the time while having the few engineers around to be able to man handle the gear routing and mixing/everything and not just hit record. The whole team made this album made a serious piece of music history in every aspect. Blows my mind to think people never heard this album as a kid. This is an album that kids should learn about in music classes.
Pink Floyd: If you ever get the song - Time, do Time and Great Gig in the sky together. Why? Because the go together as one song....PS. I like your reactions so far.; )
No they did not sample the money sounds. Samplers weren’t invented back then! They recorded coins being thrown into a metal bowl.
The tape splice was so long they had to loop it around a mic stand across the room, then back to the tape player. Alan Parson produced it.
@@TheOriginalFILIBUSTA Steely Dan did the same thing with the drum track on "Rikki Don't Lose That Number".
@@plk5520 Know what? I've heard that song hundreds of times, and am playing it in my head right now. I can't figure out what you mean. Can you elaborate?
This groovy chick is turning into a true hippie.
🤓
I've heard this song a million times, but watching her having a good time. reminded me when i heard this album for the first time.
Imagine how us old timers felt when we heard this is 1973. Same reaction as you had!
@Scott Allen There still is. Most are living in the forest tripping to psy-trance.
Looked like you were having fun. That's what it's all about
I really was having fun
I absolutely love Pink Floyd, everything is so emotionally stirring. Everything is perfection with these artists. Seeing people react to this perfection for the first time makes it all the better. It never gets old.
I loooove when the beat changes from 7/4 to 4/4 at the end of the sax solo...great reaction.
Your smile is killing me. It pretty well says it all about the music.
Another great reaction.

7/8 time signature, makes this song immortal.

Please react to Pink Floyd - "Have A Cigar". It's about how music executives lie to and mistreat the artists.
Loved the reaction when the tune changed. Been there, done it, still do it
So smooth, funky and exhilarating at once. Their radio hit in the day, but still relevant today
Your facial expressions, this is great. Lots of love

Songs I take for granted almost daily. It's just so refreshing seeing someone discover pure beauty as you do here.🤩🤩🤩
Arguably PFloyd's single biggest hit song...
I love the words, "Money, it's a crime, share it fair but don't take a slice of my pie!"
a crazy dance, a switched on reaction and a killer song...that's a like from me
My favourite song ever along with Since I've been loving you, from Zeppelin. The musicianship on this song is simply ridiculous.
This song is so bluesy & beautiful!! And that saxaphone is an absolute killer, young lady. Great song song choice too, thank you.
Never saw someone feel music like you. Bravo!
Love how you jammed to this great song!
React to Time, Shine on you crazy diamond and comfortably numb live Pulse concert Pink Floyd
And also The Great Gig In The Sky
I just found out she already reacted to "Time"

Lol 5:42 The reaction of someone hearing the opening notes of a David Gilmour guitar solo for the first time.

pink floyd are a british national treasure !
This song is in 7/4 time (except for the extended instrumental part in the middle and the ending) totally genius!
I'm glad ya liked it Sunshine. Ur hair looks nice btw.
This many videos, 20k will be easy. Love the hair also!!
