You absolutely nailed it Oscar. Orta became poisonous and now we have Radrizzani hanging around making the boardroom toxic and moribund. I fear for the future of the club in terms of it's ability to mount a campaign to return to the Premier League, first time of asking. A complete clear out is needed at boardroom level and squad level to make a serious promotion charge.

Oscar you’ve absolutely nailed it - we haven’t had a PL quality defence for years let’s be honest Lucas even at his age now would defend better than this lot. Most of the goals conceded were not because of an opponent’s individual brilliance but because our so called defence basically gifted them a goal and the last spurs goal completely typifies our defenders lack of defending talent - once Cooper missed his tackle the guy walked through and scored. A complete overhaul is needed which hopefully will include some actual defenders! MOT

The thing about Bielsa was that he brought a plan and a mindset to the club. He wasn’t perfect, but he looks better after seeing who followed. Marsch was not an attempt to build upon what Bielsa created, despite that being claimed by management at the time. Radz, Orta and Kinnear are responsible for what’s occurred. That’s why the 49rs need to grab the reins ASAP, and sort things out. The club has become a shambles because of lack of investment in proper, experienced first team players. I’m not saying don’t invest in youth teamers, I’m saying don’t do so at the expense of first teamers. We plainly needed good defenders and proven strikers and got neither. Hence we are here.

    Apologies this is lengthy all.....
Side before self is bandied all around Elland Road. Unfortunately there's no one involved with the playing staff (present coaching team excepted) or in the board room that has bought into that phrase. As a club we haven't been at the races since we gained promotion back to the premier league and personally I hold two people accountable for our relegation. Chairman Andrea Radrizzani and our former head of football Victor Orta. Everything that's happened in the soap opera known as Leeds United shows that Marcelo Bielsa was papering over cracks that turned into huge chasms once he'd departed. So where did it all go wrong?.
    Andrea Radrizzani
So we'll start at the top. Andrea has done some bloody good things at Leeds United and as a bloke he's a really nice fella. He even made me a cuppa once so he can't be all bad can he 😀 He readily admits he knows nothing about football, and as such employing someone who does would be a good move. So how on earth did he end up employing Victor Orta?. And why oh! why did he then give him free rein to do as he pleased with no accountability at all for his actions until it was too late. Andrea has failed the club by not bringing him to task over a recruitment policy that ultimately cost us relegation and will cost the club millions.
    Victor Orta
I'd never heard of him until he turned up at at Leeds. But a quick google search gave me all the info I needed to conclude the bloke was a fraud and I said so. I was even called out about it. The only person who thought he was any good was Victor himself. Steve Gibson at Boro' and the people at Zenit paint a far different picture of Victor Orta than the one he offers. HIS transfer policy for it was HIS and HIS alone was flawed to say the least. But we'll get to that.
    Marcelo Bielsa
Credit where it's due to the chairman and Victor Orta for landing Marcelo Bielsa in the first place. Because whatever they said to him they got their man. It was a coup of the highest order. But I never bought into Orta patting himself on the back, simply because every coach of a certain age or someone who enjoys South American football in general could have told you all about Marcelo Bielsa, he wasn't really a secret. Journalist Tim Vickery who's been based in Brazil for over 25 years and who used to write for World Soccer (which is where I first read about Marcelo Bielsa in the 1990s) could have told the board all about him. Christ they could even have asked me and I'd have told them all about him for nowt.
    Transfer Policy
Buying players isn't rocket science. All you have to do is bring in better players than the ones you already have, it's simple. Victor Orta said his model was based on Leicester City's, buy cheap and sell high. Eg: Riyad Mahrez bought from Le Havre for £400k and sold to Man City for £60m. But he didn't do that did he. He bought bang average players for the first team for anything between £15m and £35m. This will make it very difficult for the club to get anywhere near their outlay bar the odd player back due to relegation. What was also worrying to me was that in his first two weeks at Leeds, Bielsa sold, loaned out, or released 16 players of which 14 were Victor Orta signings. No alarm bells ringing or questions for Orta.
Did he actually go and watch the players he signed in the flesh or did he just sit in his office watching videos players sent him?. Because no player on this earth or Fuller's is going to send him a video of all their worst bits are they?. You don't need to be a scout or head of football to come to that conclusion, common sense tells you that. Orta signed players from ajax, Bayern, Barca and Juventus. But he never managed to work out that had they been any good they'd have been playing in their first teams and the reasons they were selling them, were A) they didn't think they were good enough and B) Orta offered inflated fees for them. NONE of them were good enough as our relegation shows. Still no alarm bells ringing.
Also when signing Georginio Ruttter did the chairman or anyone else on the board for that matter not ask him what he had seen in a player who had scored just 2 goals in 15 games for Hoffenheim and who Victor Orta was about to make Leeds' record signing and give him £62k a week. Now Rutter may come good in the future but for £35m quid we needed the finished article not potential. Another laughable signing was that of Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan from RB Leipzig. That could cost Leeds millions if they lose their appeal. Again does this not show Victor Orta's miss management over his transfer dealings?. And don't forget, three managers now haven't picked him. Yet still no alarm bells ringing.
    Young Players
Now we have an academy to sign young players. Adam does a bloody good job and it's one of the most revered academies in the world. But one of Victors key policies was to trawl the world and come up with young players he could sign for the club in the hope of selling them on for big money in the future. Now there's nothing wrong at all with taking a punt on a player. Signing Joe Gelhardt from Wigan for £1m is taking a punt. Spending £35m on a young player isn't a punt, it's financial suicide. So is putting a young player who was never going to get anywhere near the first team on £30k a week and who you then release on a free transfer later down the line. Again it shows Orta's inept scattergun approach to transfers whether for the first, youth or development teams. But yet still no alarm bells are ringing.
    Promotion
Upon gaining promotion to the premier league and well done all concerned. Wouldn't you have thought that it would have been a good idea to back the manager and get in players he wanted?. Sadly the club didn't and it was left to Victor Orta to recruit players for the first team. The biggest myth at the club was the one surrounding Marcelo Bielsa wanting a small squad and the signing of players. Board members came out and said to the fans that Marcelo was offered this and that player, but NOT the players that he felt would improve the squad. It's well documented now that the board lied to the supporters and backed Orta, when they should have backed their manager. But yet again and possibly to cover their backsides, still no questions or alarm bells ringing.
Now there are always rumours flying around Elland Road. But if they're true this is where the fun and games really start. So here we go. Due to influence from the 49ers, it is alleged that Leeds were offered both Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen upon gaining promotion and Bielsa chose not to sign either of them because he didn't think they were any better than what he already had. (Read my point about transfer policy).
It is believed Bielsa wanted to sign an Argentinian international possibly Rodrigo De Paul and a midfielder from Sampdoria but these two players would have cost Leeds £20m more than Aaronson and Kristensen. Orta signed Helder Costa, Ilian Meslier, Rodrigo, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Raphinha. None of these pulled up any trees. Though credit to Orta as for once he actually made a profit on selling Raphinha. Neither player Bielsa wanted was signed. Another rumour floating around was that the 49ers saw Bielsa's decision not to sign Aaronson and Kristensen as a slap in the face and wanted to sack him after Leeds' first season back in the premier league. But after finishing 9th and fearing a backlash by the Elland Road faithful they decided against it. From that moment on it was a case of when Bielsa was going to be sacked rather than if.
    Part 2 in the comments

    • @dmac17x
      @dmac17x Рік тому +1

      Jesse Marsch and staying up
So after the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa and an alleged even bigger influence from the 49ers the club appoint Jesse Marsch. Which may explain the subsequent signings of Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen from Red Bull Salzburg. Remember Bielsa didn't think they were good enough, and after our relegation he was probably right. Again I have nothing against Jesse Marsc. Again I'd never heard of him until he was linked with the Leeds job. We were told Marsch was similar to Bielsa in how he set his teams up but he wasn't. In fact he didn't seem to know what he was doing. But there is nothing on Marsch's cv that should get him anywhere near a job in the conference never mind the premier league. In my opinion Marsch got the job because of the influence of the 49ers and was American.
After miraculously avoiding relegation on the last day of the season. Orta and the board in their wisdom decide to sell our two best players and biggest assets. Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha. Why would you do that?. To this day I just can't work it out. I get the fees up to a point and I still think we sold them on the cheap. But their value to us was all about what they gave us on the pitch. Even more so when you think they were replaced by players who weren't as good as them We needed to add to the team to strengthen it not sell our better players and weaken it (again read my point about transfer policy).
Javi Gracia, Orta goes and Big Sam
Next to have a bash to save us from the drop was Javi Gracia and to say his appointment was a surprise is an understatement. What was even more surprising was that if media reports were true he was so far down the list he wasn't even on it. As half a dozen coaches all distanced themselves from taking over the ER hot seat. Gracia was probably the only one who returned Orta's call. Yet again the lack of planning from Orta once the club had decided to sack Marsch is unforgivable. Anyway after a positive start the wheels started to fall off and screech had to go. Only this time the alarm bells were ringing like Big Ben on New Year's Eve and finally Orta fell on his sword and went with him. I like Big Sam but not even I thought he'd keep us up. He probably would have if he'd replaced Marsch, and we'd definitely have been up to the dizzy heights of mid table mediocrity had he come in after Bielsa. But alas we're here because of poor recruitment.
      What would I have done?.
No point calling Orta out if I didn't have a plan myself eh!. I would have strengthened the spine of the team with experienced players who had premier league experience. So GK, two centre backs, midfield player and an out an out #9. My first port of call would have been Anfield and I'd tried to have signed James Milner. Two reasons for this, firstly. His influence around the place and the standards he'd set for those around him to aspire too. Promoting "good habits" as they say in football. 2nd. It would lift the fan base as he's "coming home" it also sets your stall out that you mean business.
GK. I'd have got one of Jack Butland, Ben Foster or Fraser Forster again for two reasons. 1. Personally I think our keepers are the best. 2. Experience. For exactly what happened to Meslier since the turn of the year, and to help him through it. His confidence was shot and it was something that he wasn't going to play through. He needed taking out of the team. I could see it. Why couldn't Marsch or Gracia?. Sam did it within a week. #9. I'd have signed Danny Ings. We'd have got him for around £10m or £12m and signed a player who has the experience needed when moving to a higher decision. We wouldn't have then wasted over £50 million on Rodrigo and Rutter. Nothing against either but they aren't worth anywhere near what we paid for them. Orta's flawed judgement again?.
But if we were going to take a punt why didn't we go for Viktor Gyokeres of Coventry City. 46 games 21 goals in the championship. He wouldn't have cost us anywhere near £35m, he will now, rumour is he's off to Wolves in the summer. Ollie Watkins was another I'd have brought in because he can play anywhere across the front line, as a #10 and gets on the scoresheet regularly and is better than Helder Costa, Ian Poveda, Tyler Roberts and Dan James put together. Plus if you want a small squad he gives you lots of options. Eberechi Eze is another who can play in a number of positions and is better than what we ended up with. Centre back Michael Hector was one I'd have signed. He always had a good game against us and is comfortable on the ball. Which helps if you wanna play out. I'd have done a Leicester too and gone down the old pro route in the vein of a Wes Morgan, Robert Huth type. Players who know what it takes to play at the top level.
We let Pablo Hernandez, Mateusz Klich, Ezgjan Alioski, Gaetano Berardi, Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha all go. We replaced them player wise but did we replace them with the same quality?. I don't think so. If there wasn't a better option available why not give them an extra year or two and bide yourself some time until you identify better players to come in?. But that wasn't Orta's way was it. His way was all about his own ego. NONE of the players brought in were good enough, that's why we went down and they certainly weren't as good as the ones above that Orta allowed to leave.
Where do we go from here
The club is a rudderless ship and needs direction and structure. But they need to be careful who they keep so they don't go down another division. I'd give Sam the job if he wants it and I'd let HIM sign his own players for how he wants to play. He will provide direction, structure and a plan to move forward. This current squad were never good enough and weren't up for the fight to stay in the premier league. The championship will be harder. It may not be pretty at times but if he delivers promotion it will allow the owners time to put plans in place to get where they want to be. Which if they have anything about them should be to get the club back into the premier league and keep them there. MOT

100% agree with everything you said Oscar. I called this years ago, no one would listen. The bottom line is under Radz 90% of transfer windows had a negative net spend, only one way that's going to end up. The majority of the Leeds Utd fanbase is deluded, they fell for Radz's PR bullshit from day one and he's been laughing at them ever since. This club is run like a non-league club, until that changes we're in big trouble.

What i still don't understand is they buy Gnonto and Marsch Said Not good enough For the Prem then He does Play and the next Manager benches him for No Reason. WE buy Rütter For a record sum and Sam says sorry Not ready For the Prem yet the young Guy delivered in the U 21s and was a big Part of them winning the League. Means to me there is a Clausen in their contracts which says the More Games they Play in the Prem the More Leeds have to pay on top to their Former clubs

You have played basketball in the premier league without a structure. Its a big shame.

To secure our future and regain our position as a Premier League team, we should adopt the Brighton, Brentford, and Newcastle approach. Their business and recruitment models have been successful, and we need to replicate that. Without a solid foundation of talented players, nothing on the pitch will go right. It would also be beneficial to have better owners, although I doubt the 49ers will buy us now. They might even sell their stake. The fourth goal against Spurs was a disaster, with Moura effortlessly bypassing several of our defenders and that really sums up our season. You are right about the stewards being the best display of defending at Elland Road this season LOL! If you don't laugh you'd cry!
Radrizzani seems to be absent, likely dealing with matters at Sampdoria. Both he and Orta have often displayed arrogance during their time at Leeds. However, let's find solace in the fact that this isn't 2004. Our average time outside the top flight is eight years over our entire history, and we're in a better financial position today. Though it won't be an immediate return, we can speed up the process by rebuilding around young talents. Proper recruitment, player transactions, and the elimination of surplus players are crucial. Consistency in team selection and formation is also vital for success. We can't afford to experiment every week. A stable starting eleven of our best players is essential, with each player in their natural position. Additionally, we should avoid injury-prone players going forward. MOT.

Roster simply not good enough. You need standouts to compete, stars, every team has them. We had them in Pablo Hernandez, KP, Raphinha. We are a team of mediocre players who are average to bad, and no standout. If your standout is Sinisterra or Gnonto, you’re gonna be in trouble. I said when I saw the activity in the transfer market this season. South America is chock full of talent and for dirt cheap. Look at Southampton snatching Alcaraz, Brighton with Enciso…and they weren’t even that great in South America. Why not look there? Why keep bringing second rate German or not good enough American players?
I’m sure Bielsa could have named you 5 players per position you could get, and for cheap, but they kept offering him a poo poo platter, which is why he kept rejecting players (he didn’t reject Raphinha did he? Even tho he was already covered on that position at the time). This is entirely on Orta, because the money was there, Leeds spent more than enough to get a quality roster. This is why I don’t entirely blame Radrizani, he did spend, and he kept Orta because the first years he did well, while he was under Bielsa’s leash, who probably saved his a** by rejecting the horrible players he was offering. Once he showed how truly bad he is, it was already too late.

But first get rid of the board, who are absolutely clueless. As for Bielsa, I'm not fan of his.
