Thank you so much for recommending my book, Minnie. I'm honored to be included and thrilled that you find I'd Rather Be in The Studio such a helpful addition (and edition 😇).
Hi Alyson! It’s so good to see you on this post! You sent me an autographed copy of your book back in 2011 and someone stole it from me before I could even read it! I have been mad for over 10 years! I’m really glad it was mentioned here because I couldn’t remember your name and the exact title to look it up again online. :(
Currently finishing my design Master’s, and i always feel so overwhelmed about having to do everything for a particular project - ie not only do I have to do research and fabrication, but also product photography, branding, marketing, etc. and it gets to be so overwhelming. I think ur book recommendations are so great and help this sort of anxiety i have about having “imposter syndrome” wherein i feel like im dabbling into a million things at once and not feeling capable.
Hi Minnie. I just want to say thank you for being on UA-cam. You have been such an inspiration to me to get my work started. I love all your content and I replay certain videos while I am cleaning my home or relaxing doing some art. I have mentioned you on my channel amongst a few others who have been my silent mentors over the years. You guys are my go to for relaxing and enjoying my art. Thank you so much from New Zealand ♥ Scribed!
I highly suggest "Getting Your Sh*t Together: The Ultimate Business Manual For Every Practising Artist" I've had it since college and it has great advice.
Thanks for these recommendations Minnie. I feel quite called to read, “I’d rather be in the Studio”because that’s how I feel most days. Haha The E-Myth also sounds fabulous and the one learning about other peoples routines….. I had no idea I needed more business books in my life but you have inspired me to read all of these. I’d love to get a video on the routine you have settled on after your move and after you read Daily Rituals.
I somehow came across Mason Currey's 'Women at Work (Daily Rituals)' and read it before his first Rituals book that you mention here. It was a wonderfully exciting and inspiring read for me and I really recommend it to all creative people :) definitely want to get my hands on the 'original' one as well.
You must have read my mind! I have v recently opened an online shop and all of these books sound incredibly valuable! Thank you for taking the time to put this together ☺️💛
I have always been curious to see how others do their daily rituals. hmmm Also the book that helped me was "How to start and operate your own design firm" By Albert Rubeling. The book is geared towards architects and interior designers but it was really helpful.
Mason Curry's "Daily Rituals" was a recent listen for me, and I agree with you Minnie, it's one I will review repeatedly. It was motivational, insightful and gives this feeling of being in a bit of community with creators through time. Quite magical.
THIS book…I’d Rather Be In The Studio…..I got an autographed copy of it 11 years ago and it mysteriously disappeared from my apartment before I could read it! I think a friend took it without asking. They had a habit of doing things like that. :(
Sadly none of these are availeble in my library. The first one looks like something that I really need to get my hands on since my small one woman business is failing big time... Thank you for thinking of us makers and artist and making this video.
This was so helpful and came just at the time when I needed it - thanks, Minni! I already own "Show your work"! by Austin Kleon, but these other ones sound worth looking into and I just got the ebook for "I'd Rather Be in the Studio". :D My small business isn't really going anywhere right now and I want to change that. As always, a well thought-through and well-edited video, great job! ♥ xx Greetings from Germany ^^

I have struggled with under-charging for my art for so long. Definitely gonna check the ethical one out!👌🏽

2:32 was so awesome to hear. I don'town my house business but right now I'm wishing I did so I could streamline my work.
Wow I remember reading through Alyson's blog in high school wanting art to be my job. I'm much older now but still creative, just bought her book!
This was very helpful. Thanks for showing the picture of the front cover - that aids us visual learner. I will definitely check a number of these out.
