I was here for my 27th birthday. I’d been to see Pearl Jam at the Milton Keynes Bowl on the Friday and, as I was already down south, figured I’d go down the Cambridge for the Duxford airshow on the Sunday while I was at it.
On Saturday I had a day to kill and spent it in Cambridge. I drove up to Duxford that afternoon and got a great view of Saturday’s air show from where I was parked up (just near the Doodlebug track at outside the museum). Flying Legends is a two day event. Runs over the weekend. I had a ticket for Sunday Day 2.
I parked up at the end of a long narrow track adjacent a farm field to camp down for the night. As the sun went down and I drank a beer, a solitary Spitfire flew into the airfield.
That Merlin permeating that silent summer air was perfect. I felt really lucky. I was probably the only person watching.
Thank you for sharing this great video.
Duxford Flying Legends 2014 - Full Show love louis shirley
WOW, thanks for sharing this. We missed this by a few weeks when we visited. Great camera work too. Those B25 props !
WestCoastWetbikes Thanks for the view and comment :)
super video
Impressively done, the aerial images are great!
Dario Pozo Thanks Dario, I try to be a tiny bit different with my compositions.
Very good indeed, an excellent movie, thanks, I really enjoyed it.
***** Thanks for the view and comment
Preciosas maquinas surcaban nuestros cielos..😍
Thanks for sharing.
Great work, you got some excellent close ups thanks for uploading, I love Duxford...its a great show..but couldn't make it this year.
revman417 Thanks very much, I like to make the planes fill up the screen, really feel the size and detail. Get there next year, it's amazing!
Great coverage of this event...well done....Steve.
***** Thanks Steve, was a wonderful day too..... Shame it weren't a touch brighter
WOW!, .. such a great quality video, the detail is so incredible! A must see for all aviation enthusiasts.
Michael Maucher Thanks Michael and to everyone else viewing and commenting :)
Bloody lovely,many thanks.
skoot2u and thank you
That is quite spectacular and exceptionnal to see that many Spitfires in the air at the same time!
Daniel De Rudder Check out yesterdays video then Daniel :) But thanks
Beautiful old planes.
Well done! Cheers!
Please tell me that the airframe movement in flight is really a quirk of the camera you are using?! I suppose it was fairly windy that day though......
Amateur Spitfire Builder Hi there, the main jerks you're seeing are probably because of UA-cam stabilizer effect. This is needed as you rightly say was a windy day, so the raw files were a tad shaky and got a bit of headache whilst watching it. Worth the compromise. I use a basic Panasonic hv-110c I believe (not to hand) however I may upgrade as I seem to get a lot of appreciation around the globe of which I'm very thankful for.
Hi bannistator! I think you were standing at the front and to the right of where I was at the time. I took video footage too but I just have an old Fuji bridge camera that can take low res 30fps. I am grateful to you for uploading a much better footage than I could capture. Did your arm ache after all that?! I thought you just had a remarkably steady hand! Wasn't that Bearcat nippy?
Nice Video! This year I can't be there...
History There's always next :) Thanks for the view and comment
Fantastic!
US and UK markings on the warhawk
Oh, the sound of that Bristol Centauris on the Sea Fury! Badass!
fantastic show
topik77 Thanks for the view
i was there too
Could someone tell me the story behind the extraordinary markings on the desert Tomahawk. It has the American Star on the fuselage but an RAF flash on the tail fin and also, it would appear, some numbers/letters half obscuring the American insignia.
Lend lease?
Zee Kusa You could be right but it's odd to say the least. It's my understanding aircraft were quickly painted with their new markings as soon as the distribution had been determined. This one seems to be caught inbetween
Lovely to see all these vintage warplanes in flight. I volunteer at a Flying Museum, so I get to see lots of vintage planes from the USA. Almost never get to see warbirds from the UK, though.
Will Connor Think we both have pros and cons, however America is sooooo vast, seeing it all I can imagine is a bigger challenge. Having said that, I do think that Duxford is one of the best in the world! :)
Oohhh I love that clipped wing spitfire! In the US we never get too see those haha
Zee Kusa But you get to see Duxford's old Hellcat and P-47 Snafu.... missing them sooo much already :(
bannistator Oh? we have Duxford's old hellcat where is it based? also Snafu is based out of Texas and i live in California so it never comes over here.
we get some different P-47s though and some B-17s that's pretty nice
Haha I make it sound like its your fault of which it totally isn't :)
The Hellcat left for the US in early Feb, don't know it's final destination. Got no Hellcat or P-47 in Europe and still no P-38 in the UK. That said, I know we received the BF109 Emil and Chrome P-40C from the US last year, maybe in a swap deal sort of thing! :) Who knows, stay tuned.
I'd much rather see a BF-109 then a P-38 we have too many P-38s in the states. i think about 6 or 7 of them?
its too bad that you dont have any P-47s though
Merci pour vos beau vidéo je les regard avec beaucoup de plaisir au Québec nous somme en hiver
gaby chouinard Merci :)
Would anyone happen to know why there weren't 3 Corsairs and most other aircraft? Wen on the Saturday but a bit disappointed that I only saw 2 Mustangs :\
Heroic Jackal heh you were luckier than me then in getting the nice shiny silver kittyhawk :) I don't know personally about the aircraft you mentioned, but was gutted too :( especially a day after the F-35 pulled out of RIAT, but still a great year for air shows.
Let's hope (No P40 reference intended) that 2015 will be another good 'un
haha very good, like what you did there!! :) Going to be awesome this year!
Hopefully Just Jane will be up too..Can only hope eh ;)
Great video :) Did you happen to catch the Hawk 75's engine issues which would have been immediately prior to your cut to landing at 32mins in?
jamieduff1981ify I did but it was a very split second shot, so I don't think it's in here sadly, was a lucky boy :). thanks for the view and post
What an adrenalin rush. Thanks
What's up with the propellers on those spitfires?
Oli PlaysVG ...that's my camera... soz :(
+bannistator Combination of the cam and propeller speed; I.E; Prop revolutions per second and cam recording at equal to or close FPS, therefore the propeller appears to be standing still. Really don't care, tad annoying. It's the sound that is exhilarating.
Spoke to soon . My bad you did get in the navy fighters.
Spitfire tail chase - perfect!
waynester71 Gets me every time! Nothing comes close (with pants on!)
omg chino California
Love the spitfires and p51 and f8f
That Bearcat is something else! It’s so damn quick. If it had entered active service, AAA gunners would have been hard pushed to hit it.
....didn't know there were that many Spits still flying!!!
***** you'll be pleased to know then there's probably up to 70 odd around the world in all sorts of variations.
70? Wow. Is that Trainer OU-V still flying, then? Saw a documentary on it in the 80's. Bloke did it up from a virtual wreck.
***** ML407 is still going strong, sadly that guy passed away a few years ago now, but now his wife (carolyn) and son now keep it going in honour of both him and history. Off the top of my head, I think it was the first allied plane to score an aerial victory on D-Day! :)
So it's not OU V anymore, then. I knew she was doing some sort of 'whip round' thing at airshows for it. Wasn't the guy killed in a car accident, or something?
***** Still carries the OU V markings ML407 is it's 'tail/serial number'. Sadly yes Nick was involved in a car accident :(
I was at this show, it was amazing!
Mats Andersen Was great, shame the weather got a bit 'British' :) 2013 was a hoot!!! :)
Aye, agreed! :)
Favourite part was the spitfire parts, love the merlins and the griffons soundtrack! :)
Was awesome! Always my highlight of the the day the spits are and enjoyed seeing SM845 back in the air too! Roll on Saturday! The Blenheim returns!
They finaly got one now? :)
It would be nice to assist personally to this unique spectacle.
A steady hand is worth a million :-)
Ken J. A bag of cement is worth less lol
they doing this again this year
Firenz`e OBjaLecT2000HD Was there yesterday, it was amazing as ever!
Why didn’t you film the U.S. navy planes the cats and Corsair. Otherwise very good. Hellcat had the most kills of the allied aircraft yes more than even the mustang not by much though!!
Th Lockheed Super Constellation, the most beautiful airliner ever.....!!! Made in Burbank, California USA.
NikkkitoNippongo T'is right up there with the Concorde and a handful others! :) Thanks for the view and comment
Where Yak 3, Yak 9, La 5, La 7, Lagg 3
Ophiuchus productions Totally agree, 2013 had a few, and hopefully 2015 will :) Thanks for the view however :)
they in china planes of fame repainted the hellcat in 2010 plz get another British hellcat with the invasion strips or with the whit strips for the pacific
Where the German planes? :(
***** a couple of Buchons in there, but this year we now have the genuine 'E' variant in the UK! Can't wai!
No tempests :(
Wetzel - I don’t believe there are any airworthy examples. They (and their predecessor, the Typhoon) were notoriously unreliable even during the war. Lots of bad accidents.
You have 666 subscribers :(
Jack Thomson haha is that good or bad :)
Now 667 ????.
learn how to use the space in front of the camera, your time spent is not getting enough steady video,I had to stop watching this because of video quality.
ME 109 Better..!!
