    Thoroughly enjoying my 2020 RAM 3500 dually chassis cab- 6.7 Max tow!
    Engine A is badass! No need for HO here, it's a work truck! Today getting 18-23 mpg w/no trailer.💪🏼🇺🇸💪🏼

      I have driven both back to back with same cab configuration and I couldnt tell much difference. Plus I dont like the idea of the low compression engine on the HO...I will pass and go SO.

    • @lw6735

      Barr Thom Actually the 16.2:1 compression ratio is much more common than 19.0:1 which is the highest ever compression ratio in a pickup and is much more likely to blow head gasket. Duramax runs 16.0:1 and 6.7 Power Stroke 16.2:1. And HO Cummins 16.2:1 now too

    You got any numbers on the MPG difference between the Cummins HO and normal? Is the 2021 HO still lower compression? Also, any numbers on 3.73 v 4.10 final gear ratio? I'm wanting to optimize MPG for towing big-ass RVs trailers, so up to 20K max weight toy-haulers. Was looking at a 2021 RAM 3500 SRW 4x4, but I want "just enough" that gives best MPG and what would the MPG be? You think 3.73 on normal Cummins is enough to tow 20K and I'm also curious about what the mileage is towing as well on HO versus non-HO Cummins.

  • @petek6522
    @petek6522 3 роки тому +1

    No need for 1000t unless you tow over 25k
    I tow 14k with a 97 12 valve with a different fuel plate and a star wheel adjustment for a little better pep , as long as the converter stays locked up it doesn't slow down

    Compression ratio has to do with the stroke, no? So would one have a different stroke than the other? And thus a different bore?

    • @lw6735

      Most likely same cylinder longer rod or deeper piston on the higher compression and shorter rod or piston on lower compression...

    • @gt40x4
      @gt40x4 5 років тому

      L W would that not change the displacement?

    • @lw6735
      @lw6735 5 років тому

      gt40x4 good question but I think displacement numbers have to do with bore size and cylinder length which I don’t think changes.... can’t say I’m sure on that. Another thing they done sometimes to change compression is drill little notches in the head beside the valves but I don’t know what they did for sure 🤔

    • @barrthom603
      @barrthom603 5 років тому

      heads, pistons, stroke...all could impact the compression...my guess is same block, pistons, stroke...probably different head or head gaskets to reduce compression on the HO engine.

      @m1lkman1974 4 роки тому

      I spoke to a Cummins engineer about this. It's all about the market and end users as it pertains to duty cycles. The 5500's are tuned and equipped for longevity and completely different duty cycle like long hauling etc vs the SO 2500 as a Swiss army knife of commuting, toy hauling and camping etc. They used a fancy term which was basically a balance of three things. I just can't remember them this second. hehe

    Low compression was done to reduce for NOx...the HO will get less fuel mileage then a SO engine. The lower compression has nothing to do with more power...its only less for less NOx....emissions related.

    • @crazyhass84
      @crazyhass84 5 років тому

      no. If that were true why not make the ho 19 cr also?! Lower cr does drop combustion temps. Which will drop nox but thats not why they have 2 cr. The ats is there for a reason. Its the same size on a so and ho truck. Cummins is not going to have 2 cr that doubles the amount of testing and parts just to lower nox. The lower cr drops the peak cylinder pressures and bmep. BMEP kills an engine from the mechanical stresses. Bmep is worst at low rpm. This is the mechanical limit preventing higher torque.
      They wanted to hit 1k + lb ft. Hence lower cr

    I’ve wondered already if the main reason that only Ram has a low output is Transmission demand on the Aisin because the 68rfe clearly can’t handle the HO engine. Which is why all 2500s (unless special ordered) and a lot of 3500s have the low numbers and crappy transmission 😉🤪

    • @anthonybaker9270
      @anthonybaker9270 5 років тому +2

      I dunno, I deleted and tuned my2017 with the 68rfe under 10k miles. I have 40k now and no problems. I have 8.5k miles hooked up to my 10k trailer. I know that’s no miles or big weight but it hasn’t fallen apart like the UA-cam commenters said it would. My 35 inch tires do make me nervous about the trans but damn it looks good. I drive it respectfully, mostly. 🤞
