luke I didn't know how else to get you to read this so im posting it on this vid... I was wondering how often you have to re-apply a dwr coating on the improved 3 season bivy since its nylon vs goretex, which goretex doesn't need one as often im guessing, I just bought the improved 3 season bivy that's why im asking. I have the mss bivy too and iv owned that for years an its still water proof, but im curious about the 3 season as you have hands on experience with it I figured youd know.
Just ran across your unbiased, honest review. Thank you for your continued service here. And I enjoyed the flash of the Unibomber sketch. There really was a similarity!
Im working in Vietnam and many people wear jackets for sun and rain protection. Your jacket looks awesome and very waterproof. Thin shell and light . The only thing I dont like are the zippers inside the pockets. I would have liked to have seen more small hideout zippers for storing stuff like money, knoives, passport etc. You can never have enough hiding places, In Vietnam we spend a great deal of time on our motorcycles and jackets are for survival. You never know when you might get a flat tire or breakdown in some remote area and your jacket is your shield against the elements. Yeah.....I like your jacket. Good review.
Hey Luke just figured I'd let you know it's on sale right now for $75.00 free shipping straight from 5.11 not sure when the sale ends but I just bought one for me. Thanks for this video it informed and educated me so I pulled the trigger. It's on the way now. Thanks again.
I wish 5:11 would do more products in "MOSS" colour, its the best green colour they do, have a SABRE 2.0 which is excellent, but when its hot you need something lighter so this looks like a good summer alternative.
Just ran across this video and had to add my thumbs up as well. Got lucky and actually picked one up at a 5.11 store last Christmas on the sale rack for like $50. It's the brown color and I would have preferred the moss but for that price I wasn't going to complain. What an amazing light shell/rain jacket! Love how soft the material is and the water proofing is amazing. Highly recommended.
I bought this jacket and I am very happy with it. This review helped with my decision. I never got wet during the rain. Now I am going to look for a winter jacket/ parka.
Luke. I got a Royal Navy black rain jacket. Much like a M65 look. Gortex. No hood. But damn it breathes well lasted well to. Around 200 km carrying a pack on it. Wear it as a wind jacket rain jacket 3 yrs now still like new.
I like that rain jacket!! Cant go wrong with 5.11 gear thats for sure! Condor is making some nice jackets these days too! Thanks for sharing Luke! Hike on!
• re jacket: Yes, looks good on you. The women's version only comes in mulberry purple, which might be an issue for some (I'd prefer a grey or black). • re jacket: I'd also like to see a vented back for additional heat control. • re glasses: the lenses are too big for your face
Very well done. I’m still thinking about the gen 3 military rain suit as my go to hard core suit. When I’m in the rain it is not in and out but for duration. Nice job I like how you present very through and not biased, very focused use in real world conditions. Thank you.
I think British army MTP gortex pants would team up well with that jacket. Two way zip entire leg legnth easy to get on off quickly, acess your pants pockets through the zip. Grab a pair try them Luke. Awesome kit
Cool review, I own one of these myself! My DWR-coating (2 years later) is no longer with us, but jacket still stays dry! Now I just how to figure out best way to re-coat it! Any advices? Thanks for a good reivew!
Bigger sunglasses = less eye bugs, sun glare which is caused by a significant ratio of luminance between the task (that which is being looked at) and the glare source.
I just ordered the m65 taclite and now eventually I'm going to get that one thanks for giving your opinion mate when I first saw this jacket I wasn't sure whether or not to get it so I'll get it eventually let it be noted that I live in Australia and it takes a while for new 5.11 tactical to get sent to Australia the first item that I got from 5.11 tactical was the Rush 12
Enjoyed the review. The price might be high but this stuff, usually, lasts. I've had the Aggressor parka for nine years and wore it to work, threw it around, and wore it in an ice storm. If this is anything like the other, I'll be getting one. Thanks again for the review of the jacket.
I was researching 5.11 jackets for concealed carry, all I got from this video was easy access to a sidearm and front carry. I thought 5.11 jackets were designed to actually carry a weapon. But you didn't allude to that in your video so I'm assuming it doesn't.
I really like 5.11's Stryke pants. The only problem I have with them is that the material could, and in my opinion should be, thicker. But I love the small organizing pockets in the cargo pockets.
What's the total weight in ounces of the jacket? I'm looking for a bushcrafting jacket durable enough for the bush, and lighter than my Frogg Toggs Toadz which weighs 27oz. I need something lighter, but durable.
Also, if you're a Division Agent and you brand 3 or more 5.11 products you get an increase in health and armor, and and increase in critical hit damage and critical hit chance of 5%. Just saying.
I bought the exos rain shell from 5.11, its currently their most waterproof jacket they said. It failed within 40 mins of a steady drizzle. It wasn't very good at blocking the wind either and didn't keep me warm, I also found the material inside uncomfortable and thought it was clammy against the skin. And the left side pocket tore the 2nd time I wore it. I returned it and got a full refund. I bought Patagonia torrentshell and it's better in everyway possible for the same price. It's a shame cause I really like the other dozen 5.11 products I own but the exos rain jacket isn't very good especially for costing $140 usd.
Jacket looks decent Luke, I was looking into the 5.11 Brand over the past few months, but haven't decided on one yet. The review looks good and spots on!
Hello Luke, thank you for sharing this fine video. With those sunglasses on you look like 'Joe Hollywood'. I like the jacket. It has some great features. I appreciate your honest straightforward reviews. Keep up the great work. Be safe out there. 🤗
Do you have any idea of what the WPB material is in the jacket? It's rated at 15k/15k, so that rules out NeoShell. eVent ranges from 10/30 to 30/10, so it's probably not that either. I really like the main zipper. Most have gone to the "waterproof zippers" that tend to delaminate in a season or two. The zipper flap on the Aurora will never have that issue. Thanks for the video.
Great review! How's it doing 2 years later? Has it held up against the test of time? Little concerned that they typically only come with a 6 month warranty haha. Thanks!
The exos rain shell isn't worth the money at all, its super cheap feeling and doesn't do anything to stop the wind. $140 can get you way better products than the exos rain shell.
Thank you for this Review (and others)! I just bought this one, was on sale for around 99$ and I´m going to use it later this year when hiking in Norway. Are you still happy with the Aurora Shell? Best regards from Sweden
150USD transfer price on website to CAD comes up at 250$, 5.11 should just state "not interested in selling product in Canada" at that price point you can get an Arc'teryx/North Face shell that will be much much better. Too bad i kinda liked it
Great review. Jacket - looks great, price ehh. How does it wash? Does the coating hold up to washing machine cleaning? Long term review will be interesting. If it stops being waterproof after normal laundering then no way. Glasses- to movie star for me. If there cheap and disposable then cool. But I suspect they are crazy expensive. Murphys law applies to sunglasses. The first time you buy expensive glasses they get destroyed in some none trail related way. Like your wife sits on them (personal experience).
I like the jacket. I was within 200ft of a 5.11 store in Indianapolis (Castleton Square Mall) but had to go to a furniture store instead *sad face* the things you do to keep a marriage happy *sigh* The sunglasses remind me of a Devo video. "Whip it! Whip it good!!" LOL!! Murphy's Rules Of Combat #2: if it looks stupid, but it works, it isn't stupid. If you like the shades, well there ya go.
Hello Luke, that is also my type of jacket, love the color, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this jacket, take care, have a wonderful week and God bless you and your Family always. 🇺🇸☕️🔥🇺🇸👼🏻
AWESOME has similar features as the ecws military jacket love that 511 comes through again love the sunglasses they look really cool thanks Luke good review😎💪☝️👌👍👍
Well hell...I got that beat! I was in the deep woods and attacked by a herd of bull moose in rut. Just unzipped my shoulder pocked on that tactical jacket, zipped out them tactical sun shades and blinded them all from reflecting the sun with them babies. That bunch of bull turned and ran for cover like the skool of Great White Sharks in the nearby pond. Gotta have it!!
I agree, Gore Tex rules. Dry Plus Good, My Browning Quatro Parka purchased 1993 STILL IS WATERPROOF! Many many adventures, from -20 in a tree stand to 60 casting for walleyes in the rain. Paid 330$ for it, money well spent.
I'm currently editing the next overnight adventure and I can't wait to share it with you all!
Have a great week everyone.
- Luke

now is on amazon for 47$
Looks like similar material on the Helly Hansen Seven J rain jacket.
OMG! The unibomber sketch was hilarious!
been using 5.11 for years.... its nice stuff and lasts a long time
I just took delivery on one of these today. Super nice and marked down to 50 bucks on their website. Great value
Just ran across your unbiased, honest review. Thank you for your continued service here.

The limp drop and the unabomber reference was solid gold. I'll take the jacket
I bought this jacket and I am very happy with it. This review helped with my decision. I never got wet during the rain. Now I am going to look for a winter jacket/ parka.
Great features on this Jacket. I may have to pick this up. Thanks for letting us know Luke.

What do I think? That you made a great review and you are awesome
As always lovely to hear your thoughts on something : ) haha.
I like that rain jacket!! Cant go wrong with 5.11 gear thats for sure! Condor is making some nice jackets these days too! Thanks for sharing Luke! Hike on!
I own a 5.11 Aggressor parka that I've had for years. The shell is waterproof and it's great.

The glasses and the jacket both look great!
As always, the best reviews!
Thanks for the review. Just purchased one fro $49.99 from the 511 site. THANKS!
Hey, it's still on sale. I'm thinking about purchasing, what temperature would you say this jacket can handle without another jacket underneath?
Okay, the Unabomber reference just earned you a like. Ha!!
Very well done. I’m still thinking about the gen 3 military rain suit as my go to hard core suit. When I’m in the rain it is not in and out but for duration. Nice job I like how you present very through and not biased, very focused use in real world conditions. Thank you.

I’m really glad to see this video. I have some 5.11 Gear and I love all my gear so far. I was curious about this jacket so again thank you.
Hey nice review! how has it held up over the last year and so many months? They are on sale right now for $50
Cool review, I own one of these myself! My DWR-coating (2 years later) is no longer with us, but jacket still stays dry! Now I just how to figure out best way to re-coat it! Any advices? Thanks for a good reivew!
try nikwax
This is on closeout right now, so I thought I'd see if you still planned on doing an update.

Was there a follow up to this? Because it’s only 49.00 dollars right now!!!
I hate the velcro'd flap over the zipper. I just gets in the way when you're zipping on and off the jacket.

The glasses are nice..you look good in the glasses and coat.
I do like those zippered pockets. Easy access as I front carry and conceal Jelly Babies!
I really like 5.11's Stryke pants. The only problem I have with them is that the material could, and in my opinion should be, thicker. But I love the small organizing pockets in the cargo pockets.
Great review. I would like to know if the Aurora is packable. Regards!
it is somewhat packable..maybe about 2\3 milk carton packed.
Thanks J.
The uni-bomber thing was funny.
I’d like to hear more of your opinion on the Carlos ray pants from Tactical distributors, I remember you mentioning you weren’t a fan. Cheers.
It looks like a well made jacket but is it worth the extra money if you can buy something like the Marmot precip for half the price?
Nice review . Would you prefer this one or the OR Helium?
I found D.B. Cooper 😎😎😎 Nice review. There is a striking resemblance. Keep them coming
Awesome jacket I like 5.11 products.
I wear medium for fleece and shirts, should I get a large size coz this is a shell jacket?
That's a bad ass jacket Luke! Thanks
What's the total weight in ounces of the jacket? I'm looking for a bushcrafting jacket durable enough for the bush, and lighter than my Frogg Toggs Toadz which weighs 27oz. I need something lighter, but durable.
What temperature would you say this jacket can handle to keep me warm without another jacket underneath?
Does the visor get in the way of looking around? Does it do a good job of blocking the sun?

They’re on sale right now for 50 bucks. Maybe about to be discontinued?
I bought the exos rain shell from 5.11, its currently their most waterproof jacket they said. It failed within 40 mins of a steady drizzle. I thought the original terminator came back with those sun glasses
Jacket looks decent Luke, I was looking into the 5.11 Brand over the past few months, but haven't decided on one yet. The review looks good and spots on!

Luke, is it quiet enough for use while hunting? ATB, Bill
Very good review, i like the sunglasses, they look good on you, maybe susie needs a pair too, very nice jacket .
I live in South Florida would you think that me getting this jacket is a good idea or should I look somewhere else?
At this day a just bought it for 49.99 on the 5.11 web site.
Looks good, I see they do an xprt jacket as well
So how is it performing?
Can you review the alps mountaineering lynx 1 tent
This looks like a nice stealthy Dad jacket for the outdoors.
cool review.
thanx luke.
A Most excellent review. Would Texas chili stain it?!
another great vid luke, a little pricey but i will wait for your extended use review. thanks again luke.
hey you mentioned you are wearing a Medium size, how tall are you?
Do a overnight survival challenge, I like the glasses. (With everything you have reviewed)
so its been 6 months is it still water proof?
Great review! How's it doing 2 years later? Has it held up against the test of time? Little concerned that they typically only come with a 6 month warranty haha. Thanks!
doesnt matter its, discontinued
@@nyinfamous2k2 It does matter because it would be indicative of the quality of the brand, not just the model of jacket.
The exos rain shell isn't worth the money at all, its super cheap feeling and doesn't do anything to stop the wind. $140 can get you way better products than the exos rain shell.
@@nyinfamous2k2 wrong
Thank you for this Review (and others)! I just bought this one, was on sale for around 99$ and I´m going to use it later this year when hiking in Norway. Are you still happy with the Aurora Shell? Best regards from Sweden
Thanks for doing this. I too like the jacket and wondered yet never asked.
Ohhhhh been waiting for this one!

Nice review. What size are you wearing? How is the fit?
He said it is size medium.
He answered both questions. Watch the video again.
Just ordered me one for $50 off 5.11's site.
I haves 511 tactical store about a mile from my house

You got top gun goin on with the glasses
I love the Unabomber comparison! Excellent 😝
$150.00 WOW! Can't wait for the follow-up this fall on this. Think ill wait for that before ill buy it. But it looks bad ass!
I wonder if Brexit trade deals mean we could buy from the UK? Would be nice...
That zipper gunna be handy scratching the old gonads on a wet day
A man who knows what's important
i dig the sunglasses
Good jacket. Good review. Sunglasses...?? The jury is still out.
I like the jacket. I was within 200ft of a 5.11 store in Indianapolis (Castleton Square Mall) but had to go to a furniture store instead *sad face* the things you do to keep a marriage happy *sigh*

Excellent review. Be careful opening those packages.
Great review! Hope they make them for women.
Hello Luke, that is also my type of jacket, love the color, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this jacket, take care, have a wonderful week and God bless you and your Family always. 🇺🇸☕️🔥🇺🇸👼🏻
That is a good looking jacket. I don't think $150.00 too bad, you could easily pay that much for other jackets.
Got mine for 85. Leave it in the cart for a day and they will email you a coupon code lol
Dig the shades!
DAMN, just watched this whole review, decided this was the one and ....... its discontinued
AWESOME has similar features as the ecws military jacket love that 511 comes through again love the sunglasses they look really cool thanks Luke good review😎💪☝️👌👍👍

Youre the man luke
For 150 US it has to be Gore-Tex or even Cabelas Dry-Plus, 5:11 has a 25% premium for the 5:11 logo because there are so many crap Chinese knockoffs.

Dr. Ted.. too funny.
