  • In this video, I'll wrap up a long term update on this off grid solar panel system powering a Ubiquiti UVC camera, wireless bridge, and SolarPoint solar controller. This setup has been as hassle-free and worry-free as it can get. It just works and never has to be touched! #ubiquiti #solarcamera #solarpowered

The "OnePane of Glass" management interface is perfect. Great video BTW!

Thanks! The future is bright but things still aren't settled. At least it isn't ugly. Still isn't fun.

@@LDSreliance they occasionally pop up in the Unifi store. I've bought two over the past two months.

I wish Ubiquiti would throw in the Switch Flex and partner with Victron Energy and build a new SolarPoint. If they made a 24 volt system that was PoE++, it would do well for us wanting to build something similar for remote locations. I am in the process of building my own solar powered 5g network controller for cameras and internet at my off grid property. I have 4 Reolink Go PT Plus LTE cameras currently, but having 4 mobile plans and bills is draining the wallet.

The SolarPoint was one the best things they came out with in a long time as far as innovation and convenience and the way it simplifies a setup. But it really needs lithium support.
I'm going to doing another series on this "setup" on my new off grid homestead so check back for that in the coming months.

@@LDSreliance That's why I wish they would partner up with Victron Energy. They make small form factor charge controllers that can handle all types of battery chemistries. They also need to kill 10/100 and move to gigabit. I know it doesn't matter for IP cameras, but there really isn't much reason to stick with 10/100 anything. Having everything all in one would make setup that much easier. For small scale solar projects, I only use Victron charge controllers. They are super solid and reliable. Their inverters are pretty reliable as well. I'm looking forward to your new video!!

Victron makes good stuff. But they don't have anything that is attractive from a PoE camera perspective. It would have to be adapted to work just like any other charge controller. Ubiquiti doesn't seem to know what they really want to do outside of WISP products and prosumer home networking gear. They keep dabbling in stuff but never go all in (solar stuff, video doorbells, etc.).

Overkill is worth it, you get significantly longer life out of your batteries if they don't cycle nearly as much, can run in rough conditions, etc.

Amen. I was actually planning on replacing them every 2 years. But they haven't shown any signs of slowing down at all.
