I just love the acceleration of the Class 802. Same with the Class 800 and Class 801. No wonder these new trains can actually beat a Class 43 Mk3 HST or Class 91 Mk4. So smooth, quiet and fast. Plus passing underneath the new A14 bypass with the old A14 viaduct to be demolished at some point.
The only adverse criticism of the Azusa that I have heard is the hardness of the seats and the closer spacing of seats. What were your findings? Thanks for the video. Have you any more trips planned?
It varies per person. Whilst I have no real issues with the seats, I can understand why others find the seats hard. Saying this, having sat on one for just under 5 hours, my behind was a little numb. The journeys I make don't tend to be pre planned so I'll just upload anything that's a little different. However I have one slightly different video trip to upload! Actually there is more room between the seats than the before, so even the tallest person will have enough room. But the seats themselves have very hard padding (like many new trains) and make you sit bolt upright, which can become rather uncomfortable on longer journeys. I'm told the first class seats can be reclined but haven't tried them yet so not sure if that fixes the problem or not. I did find one of the units to be rather noisy - the AC made it sound like there was a gale in the cabin. The other had loud motor whine under power, and another one was pleasantly hushed, like a MK4. The ride is generally ok but can bang about over points more than expected. I think there is quite a bit of variability between units and between coaches within each unit which would partly explain why opinion is so polarised!.... though the hardness of seats is an ongoing criticism of many new trains, not just IETs. The new Northern units for example are literally like sitting on an ironing board! They are uncomfortable even next to the pacers so no, despite what some have said its not just a question of people resisting change because people have been wanting to see the back of the pacers for years!
