Amused by how often your posture matches the foreground frog sculpture. 😄 Great video! That’s creeping geranium, BTW, which produces a light scent when walked on.
😂🙏
This has no scent…
I wish I could like your video a hundred times! You don't know how timely this is for me!!! I garden north of Atlanta (7B). In the past two weeks we've not only had a couple of days of gully-washer type rain storms followed by days of incredible winds that blew and nature-pruned my two humongous white oaks and three pine trees, leaving debris embedded in my gravel paths. I first cleared and dethatched all the debris from my lawn which took forever. TODAY is clean up the gravel paths day! You've inspired me, truly! Now I can't wait to get out there and get started. I follow your process but haven't blasted the dirt debris with the hose. I'll definitely add that step. I'm a 72 YO woman who tends two acres of gardens alone. What doesn't kill you definitely makes you healthier and stronger! Thank you so much for this video! Before I start, I'm going to reward myself first with a trip to my local nursery for more annuals! Sending you much love and appreciation!!
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for sharing! I feel for you, we also got that nor' easter in Jersey that has pelted us with winds and debris for days. You are also my inspiration doing all that at 72 YO (I turn 55 next month and it's already ouch on the knees). So glad we can inspire each other!! You deserve those annuals, enjoy!
Gosh two acres you are amazing!
@@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 Oh the knees! Use that kneeling pad :) I'm a young 72 and the work is good for me!! Thank you!
@@gardeningonthewestforkwith8994 Awww, thank you!
Looks fantastic . Hand weeding washing rocks adding new stone to refresh looks great! Hard work but very satisfying!
Thank you Teresa! I hope all is back to normal in your lovely garden!
@@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 oh it’s all fine mud is drying !!!
@@gardeningonthewestforkwith8994 So glad to here that!!

My friend, have a good day
Thanks!
You have a beautiful garden.
I understand your reluctance to use a herbicide. I do use it to spray a terribly invasive plant, mulberry weed, which was introduced into my gardens in bales of Georgia pine straw (I live in VA). With that exception, I pour boiling water on weeds in my gravel paths & they die back completely. Saves my back.
Hi Deb! There are definitely exceptions, no judgments here. OMG you will laugh, I also use boiling water for ants and weeds but I used it on this path one time and because of the grade it rolled right down onto my climbing hydrangea roots and I was lucky not to lose it...it took about 10 minutes of cool hose water to save it. I felt like such a dummy. I now take a very good look around for where that water will run too and I'm kind of gunshy about it now lol.
Your gardens are absolutely beautifully done.
I agree with stone on your paths. I too have huge gardens with various river rock and pea gravel. Everyone thinks my gardens are interesting and beautiful.😊❤
We recently purchased a home (new construction) and will be starting with a black canvas. It gets extremely windy at times in our location so I’m thinking that mulch beds will be out of the question. Therefore, we are looking to do decorative gravel in the garden beds (perhaps 2” in size and 3” depth). I’ve seen a lot of conflicting information on whether or not to use fabric under the rock with the pros of using fabric being: 1. Less weeds from underneath 2. Rock not sinking into the soil and cons being: 1.(I’m told) that the fabric is not healthy for the plants 2. Over time debris will eventually clog the fabric which would result in weeds and less air/water exchange with the soil underneath. 3. Even good fabrics degrade over time and need to be replaced which I hear can be a huge pain.
In the video, you mentioned that you wish had fabric under the rock; however you also mentioned something about needing to replace it every year in another area. It looks like you use the gravel only on paths and not gardening areas. Care to add your two cents for my situation? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I think you misunderstood about the fabric. You shouldn’t have to replace it after a year anywhere. I think you’re referring to when I said I will remove it in some areas after a year. I have had amazing luck with fabric with none of the issues people report but I also use fabric that isn’t thick. It’s pretty thin with lots of holes. Put compost under it before laying it then slowly remove it after a year. I’ve seen people use fabrics that have more in common with pool liners. My sister is dealing with that at her new house. No fabric will stop weeds completely. Nothing stops weeds completely not even concrete so understand the limitations and you’ll be happier with your decision. Gardening is work for sure.
Mulch doesn’t blow around in the wind even in our hurricanes but it does float with flooding. I find it’s hard to grow and replant in gravel. It gets hot so use plants that can take hot dry roots. In the end only you can decide what you would like but i find gravel is way more maintenance than mulch and looks bad without regular maintenance. I hope this helps! Best of luck with your project🙏
Agree with the hand weeding…it’s the only way. It looks beautiful 😍
Awesome!! Thank you so much! : )
Watching from ireland. Just cane across your video.. could watch it all day 😉
🙏👏
I have the same walkway, from front side to the back sliding glass door, I love it, although its high maintenance
We are sure your walkway is beautiful! It can be high maintenance and hard work but they sure do make a statement.
We have quartz rock paver pathways with fabric under it. But we use a environmentally safe and pet friendly vinegar solution (lots of recipes online). Spray it on weeds and that same day will start to turn brown and wilt. Makes weeding in the rock pathway easy. Pull out bigger ones after they die. Small one kinda disintegrate. Good luck
No luck needed but thanks, the project was done in a few hours! Sorry I don't use vinegar in my garden unless I absolutely had no alternative. Anything that kills a weed (which is a plant) can kill the plants and harm the trees that surround the area. My theory is why spray and wait until the next day or two to have to go back and remove them? I Just pull them and it's done. It also is not "friendly" to earthworms and the microbes in your soil. I don't have a problem with you using it...I just prefer not to spray unless there's no other choice and It's working for my garden. Thanks for sharing your method!
Thank you for makingthis video!
You are welcome! Thanks for visiting!!
Nice work....c'mon over! lol
Haha, I know, right? That's how we feel after we are finished! The hard work does really pay off though.
I have a lot more weeds than that! I feel like it’s going to take me all Summer!
I think you would be surprised how fast it goes. You should see my driveway right now (weed lawn, true story lol). You can do it!
Bravo beautiful lady! România zona 6. You? Zona?
Thank you, we are zone 6b.
Are those arborvitae and do you prune them for that size
Yes they are arborvitae. I haven't had to prune them yet since they are virtually growing in complete shade, maybe an hour of sun a day. But yes, I prune most of my arbs for size.
What a lucky husband 😍
