DIY Gravity Feeder that Big Bucks Will Actually Use!

- I’ve always felt like feeders were to difficult to get mature bucks to use to justify using them. That is, until a couple buddies of mine started making gravity feeders out of 55 gal drums and having great success with it. I decided to give it a try and had bucks that I know to be 6.5 years old and up start using them within a week or two. And also had all the same mature bucks coming that I did when I was just feeding on the ground.

Glad you gave the Dimensions, because i was eyeballing that feeder when i watched that video and was figuring on building myself one.
We have been useing 55 gallon plastic food grade barrels with 3” hole cut in bottom front! We don’t paint ours they are White or black! In Michigans upper peninsula Bear will tip over! We lag bolt to tree with 1/2” x3” lagbolt. Plastic a lot easier to work with an don’t rust when cut hole with hole saw.
I wrapped mine in burlap. Works good and doesn’t smell
Cool idea. Was surprised you didn’t file the burrs off the opening as I’m guessing the deer have to put their noses in the hole to get more out.
Keep em comin
Thats a good idea I don't bait but if I ever get the opportunity to I will do this
I'm in Kentucky and yep I use em to hard ta keep bears off em tho 😆
Fixing to make a few of these to set out at my Ohio lease! 🏹🦌
Good luck bro
Here in Wisconsin 2 gallon bait limit
I just use thirty-Five Gal garbage cans. Painted them camo... Drilled about and inch and a half square at the bottom. Use two Iron rods to station the cans which are on a piece of Plywood for corn to flow on..... holds 100 lbs of corn. Easy Pleaceyy And last for years....
Great video but around here in wv the bear destroys every feeder like that you put out. Or atleast they do on our land
Do a video putting one out. Would love to see how it turns out
No need to paint them camo. I tried it last year and it didnt matter if they were camo or not as far as the deer coming to them
Do you just set the barrel on the ground? Could you also use plastic drums?
Yes sir just on the ground
You could use plastic but I think coons would chew the hole bigger if there was a little bit of corn left in there once it was empty
@@HaveBowWillTravel I have been useing for 30 yrs coons or bears have chewed around edge but good plastic drums don’t allow them to open hole at all just teeth an chew marks on hole of plastic barrel.
So you sitting them directly on the ground ?
If your ph is high they’ll rot in a year and bottom will fall out.
We have done rubber mats with some of them
Do you cut the tops off to put your corn in how do you do that
They have removable lids
How long is a full drum (of corn) lasting you?
It just depends on the location but I’d say 2 weeks on average. I ended up making the hole smaller on some of them to make them last longer
55 gallon drum full of corn holds just over 3 - 100 lb bags!
Are the barrels elevated at all? Anyway you can post of pic of what they look like in the field? Thanks man!
I can’t really post pics on UA-cam but if you find me on Facebook I’ll send you some

So no barrel funnel at the bottom?
Wouldn’t hurt to have but we didn’t use one
Our gravity feeders hold about 400 pounds each.
This will work except in bear country. They will destroy a feeder in a hot minute!
Rain doesn't ruin corn...deer will eat wet corn my deer have been eating it for decades.
