Karen, you are awesome! Not only are you a great teacher but you seem to be a great human being. I wished all my teachers were like you back when I was in school. Keep teaching. We are listening!
I am a guitar player who's been playing for over 27 years and I'm only now beginning to seriously work on ear training. These series of videos was really helpful to me, thank you for posting them!
I LOVE your teaching style! ......AND I learned so much from this series about playing by ear. I’ve been playing for years and can play ‘big’ music but I’m lost without the music.....UNTIL NOW! Your style is fun, entertaining, and concise. I love my piano teacher but I wish I had learned from you. Well, in all honesty, I have learned from you. I have so much gratitude for you and your lessons. Thank you!
I learnt by ear on a piano accordion. The buttons look daunting but are so simple: there is a dent in the C bass note, C major chord is in the row next to it. Under C is F and F chord and G is above it. So this music, however you do it by ear, is so easy. OK, in this lesson, Karen uses a D which on the accordion is... above the G, and so it goes. This pattern is the same for guitars and keyboards. Thank you Karen for this, as it resonates with how I learnt the solid rudiments of music; anyone can learn if they have the tune in their head and know when the chord changes.
There ya go: She plays 2 chords and she is totally happy :D I only wish there were more people like her! Music doesnt have to be complicated just friggin enjoy it and than you get good at it anyway :)
So amazing we all get caught in a box and we think it's the only direction to follow and we end up if your are only taught to read music just to follow other people's arrangements we never really learn to develop creativity and develop are own voice . Ty is amazing when you break out of the box and just enjoy your journey.
Hi Karen i am learning to play Accordion and just love the way you explain your lessons. Your way of explaining Learning by Ear has Inspired me to spend more time on my Accordion. You are Absolutely Amazing, love your sense of humour and Energy. From Sunny South Africa
1. Country 2. Gospel 3. Christmas 4. Hawaiian 5. Marches Great thing about these videos is that she doesn't just teach you techniques to play by ear, she also gives you a starting point for your education.
Karen The more I follow your lessons the more relaxed and improved I have become. You have answered & cleared up many frustrating difficulties in understanding chords sequence.I play Bass guitar using tabs ,knowing the guitarist possible next move is a gift.PS this lesson will help me advance . john/Paris
Hi Karen, I just want to thank you for sharing these videos. I play guitar, do not read music read only tabs and my dream was always to learn songs by ear. I always felt lost and had no idea how to put music together, these videos made it crystal clear and it is very easy for me to learn most songs by ear. Complex songs are getting easier. I also started learning to sight read per your advice. Is there any focus areas you can recomd that will help me understand composition and music better? Thanks
Great videos! I will finally be able to learn notes, keys and progressions. By the way, I guess You mixed ukuleles and lapsteels.. Thank you so much for this awesome material. Happy new year 2017 and all best wishes!

hi karen, wow youre the best piano lecture ive came across, i love your videos and the way you teach its so much fun, and i learned a lot from you ESPECIALLY playing by ear.....the truth is i am a beginner, i dont know how to play notes, but i can play by listening, an please if you can teach me about passing notes, i am tired of standing and rest on one notes for seconds before jumping to the next chord hahahha.....please i need your help, once again thank you very much for the videos
Thank you so much, I'm into guitar, find piano nice but I don't play it! Your lesson here was of extreme importance to me! I kind of heard about that stuff before but you made it well clear!
I had to rely much on note by notes when playing the keyboard. Lost the rythmn when followed the written beat (quality of the notes) and lost the feelings. Thanks for you wonderful guidance . Congrats.
Is this the last part her video lesson? Can anyone can tell me. where is the video. that can teach me how to know when you use Root, 1st and 2nd. inversion im still confused. i know how to play melody but i cant determine which chord. i need help :(
I would to see this Lady play a normal Piano that hasn't a large set of back up music, but play a piano using both hands not having one hand changing the backing sounds which have been pre- recòrded.
I took piano and organ since i was 5. I'm 79 now and learning so much from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It's been a delight.
