Thanks Kate. I’m a recent retiree (at 56) and am looking to supplement my retirement with my woodturning hobby. I started a shop while still working just try to see what I can sell. Now I’d like to stop messing around and make it a decent business. Your tips are fantastic and I’m zeroing in on a niche (not bowls!). I look forward to more of your posts!
Thank you Kate! I am just starting to sign up now in Etsy and still looking for my niche still watching your other videos about the Etsy. Please upload more videos about how to become a seller in Etsy or other strategies. Thank you. I am Clara from Philippines.
Thank you so much I am starting a business to sell lip gloss also confused. I’ve watched so many videos on how to start one, but this really helped me so thank you.
I personally think the first three minutes even gave so much straight forward information ❤ thank you so much this is awesome 😇 UA-cam is very large and mainstream… no one is safe from ads 😂 ignore the smoke 😎🙌🏽
Hi Kate, the beauty of various ecommerce models, where you are selling digital/physical products - it's a business that can be eventually sold!........ ........however; the problem with Etsy, is that they do not allow a Seller to sell their Etsy business - can you imagine, all these Sellers that are doing very well on Etsy - they cannot leverage their Shop's growth, by selling it ! What are your thoughts ?
Lots of people want to sell products online without the intention of ever selling their business. You’re right that staying on Etsy long term is not the right fit if your goal is to build up a business and then sell it.
I have a question, today a customer from France bought one of my mugs, the cost of the mug is $9.00 and adding shipping cost a total of $29.95. I know Printify charges me the costs, my question is does Etsy transfer the shipping cost to my account? Well, otherwise I can't find business logic because I'm selling to lose money.
the customer should pay the shipping cost to their country. do you have your shop set up in a way that estimates the customers shipping cost for them in their cart before they purchase?
Depending on what physical item you sell we have found that using fedex (using Etsy to create labels) is the easiest for moderate to large items and using USPS (also through Etsy) makes the most sense financially and logistically. You can mark complete an order and ship how you like but it will take much more time and I haven’t found UPS to be any better as far as price to the others mentioned. We have sold a lot of products, large and small physical and digital. Just for reference. A good option is to get you a Dymo label printer to print your own labels (Etsy will provide these printable labels if you ship through them).
I have been thinking about Etsy, but there are some who say DO NOT, only because of the fees, which I still do not under stand the hole fee thing? I DO know Ebay is asking for SS # now which SS told be they are not suppose to be doing, long ago I sold stuff on Ebay, and now I REFUSE to give some ONLINE company my SS number, DOES Etsy ask for this? I could find nothing. But I really need to market my craft items some where? I want to retire and sit back and build, craft and travel.. Where can I start and be SAFE selling On-Line?
I have your video helpful.I want sell beautiful art product is adviceable for me to advertise and sell on this website. And how much does it cost to run ads
Hi friend, as a disclaimer we don’t give legal advice. Now, wether you should get insurance or what type largely depends on what you sell. For example, physical products typically carry more liability than digital for obvious reasons. And not all physical products are equally liable ether. I’d reach out to an insurance professional or lawyer for a more accurate answer when considering it for your business. Hope that helps!
Hello, I would like to set up my very first etsy shop, i am fine paying fee to do so however what i do not understand when they are charging this fee, is it instant after i have registered there and as soon as i make my store available or they will deduct this fee from sold item? Also i would like to know where can i find instructions in what resolution (digital) i should sell my work at least minimum size and available to print it out. Thanks.
Hey friend, here’s a video on Etsy fees that should be helpful for you: ua-cam.com/video/KohQJkr8YV0/v-deo.htmlsi=ICj4bAqYopLIIjtV Your designs should be at minimum 300dpi
Hi Kate, just found you and I subscribed immediately. I haven’t searched your videos yet, but do you have any suggestions when it comes to how much per day we should be looking to invest in ads? My wife and I started our business on Etsy on August 20th of this year. We have two “main” products with a few other items on the site that indirectly affect the shop. Any suggestions or leads would be appreciated! Thanks
@@KateHayes thank you for the insight Kate. I also used your promo code for Sale Samurai. So I’ve been having success with ads most days, usually geared to the $5 to $10 a day plan. I’m thinking it might be too much as I have been averaging a 30% cost on ads. Our highly targeted products are the only ones we really put into the ad campaign. It’s just a wild thing to spend $2 and get $80 in sales, then spend $10 and get next to nothing. Trying to balance it out the best way we can, as we are receiving roughly 45% to 60% ROI. 70% of our main product has grown organically.
Took a deposit of 80 bucks by creating a custom listing ( just to get a deposit ) with fees ect it's took my total down to 56 bucks !! That isn't covering the stuff to start the build. Won't be selling on Etsy again after this
My daughter sells patterns on Etsy. She has dealt with people selling her patterns all over the world. She gets nasty letters that she didn’t send all the pages. People are printing and mailing the patterns incomplete. Since her store is on the patter she is blamed. Told she can’t really sue when there are only so many patterns and aren’t copy righted. She is ready to close her store. Any advice?
To corroborate what Kate said because I'm a law student and at the same Etsy specialist, she should have all her products branded. Did she list those products on the store herself?
@@HelmetVanga Definately her patterns from scratch. She made some from pics from customers as well as just description. Lawyer tell her there is nothing she can do because most live in foreign countries. There are so many patterns you can make unless you have a copyrighted animal like Mickey Mouse. Also the people stealing it are of low income not corporations with deep pockets. It will cost her $10.000 to $100.000 per suit. She makes less than minimum wage working on them. Even when they post her photos with her children in it she can get the post removed from FB ads. It pops up hours later under a different name. Her shop is now closed. Another case like San Francisco where the thieves put a profitable business out of business. She and her one employee are moving on.
Can you help me..... I run the etsy shop but due to some i have some etsy due to pay and etsy suspended my account and delist all the listings......i even can't see the my listings.....so etsy will relist the my listings or again i have to create listing again........have you ever feel or experience the etsy shop suspended case
Hey. Just wondering if you’d know. I started a shop and I’ve had requests for my email address so they can make the purchase. I’ve looked through all the setting and unless I’ve missed something there isn’t a spot for my email. It’s a printify shop so the website created the shop automatically.
Good day ronald saw your comment here and i will like to help. You have to check your dashboard and see whether is probably integrated and also run a sale test.

Just wondering, what type of business insurance would you recommend when getting started?

@KateHayes thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.
What’s your biggest pain point regarding selling on Etsy? 🤔
Choosing a niche/product to sell.
Sale Samurai sounds like another version of Helium 10 and/or Viral Launch
hi, etsy keep on suspending my account and when I appeal they dont give any reason :( pls advise

Hey friend, thanks for subscribing! I would say only to invest in ads for your top listings with best selling potential, and at least $1-$2 a day

So sorry to hear this. If she hasn’t already she needs to report the shops stealing her designs to Etsy for Intellectual Property infringement
To corroborate what Kate said because I'm a law student and at the same Etsy specialist, she should have all her products branded. Did she list those products on the store herself?
I am curious why she is not herself asking for help here. Does she actually make the patterns?

sorry but this video is 99% ad...
She has to make a buck too. I don’t want to work for free even if this is helpful.
@@Ron_DeForest so put up a "this is a ad" thing on that section like most youtubers do
Deal with it or pay for premium. It’s that simple.
