What the john Innes numbers are is one of those things I've never looked into as I make most of my own compost and dont often buy any, so I learned loads watching this thank you.
Aalreet Stew :). Honestly mate John Innes used peat not loam so the correct mix and proportions are incorrect these days. I have a book somewhere, I will look for it lol.. I hope you are keeping well by the way mate.
I’ve been using the Levington seed to start my Jalapeño & pepper seeds and in 10 days they have worked really well! Bought No.1 but do not know when to transfer the seedlings, perhaps when they have their first true leaves?
I tried the peat free types No2 and 3 will definitely not be using for anything, put in the bottom of a raised bed, its terrible and really compact, i dont recommend the peat free shredded tree version. But the normal stuff is just as good as always
It’s a pity most if not all peat free compost atm the main bulk is now from brown bins collection and recycling centres so a lot of that so-called biodegradable plastic bags pet poop and branches etc no thank you
Thankyou for explaining this.

Great explanation for the different types of compost - love the comparison to human development 👌
Absolutely brilliant explanation. Thanks a lot.

Great video, how big are the bags?
Thanks for the comment - all bags come in 6 litre and 30 litre sizes, apart from the ericaceous compost which is 30 litres only.

I have noticed this too, I buy their John Ines no.3 & it’s gone from being soil based to being all fibre based, I wasn’t impressed!
Soo outdated. Let's stop using peat
There is no substute for peat.
