    That's pretty cleaver, thanks for sharing! What I did is I replaced my hitch pin with a grade 8 bolt and nut and torqued it down hard so it squeezes the receiver tube a bit to keep the hitch tight. Works perfectly! No more play at all anymore and it can't be stolen nearly as easily as pulling a pin out. And at least in my situation, removing the bolt allowed me to remove the hitch no problem, so the receiver tube wasn't damaged or permanently deformed. Win win!

    Thank you, I was looking at getting a trailer hitch and I was nervous because there was only one pinhole and now I know that I can put on an anti-rattle device.

    I’ve been towing for 60+years and I never thought of this. That’s great, thanks!
    I’m a welder/ fabricator and have built many trailers , tow hitches and tons of devices that use the receiver as a platform for winches , vises and every thing and that’s a nice cure for the lash on all these things that some how escaped me, ( I’m ashamed to say)

    I drilled a hole on top of the hitch. I then welded a nut over the hole. Then I use a bolt to tighten as needed. In the past, I just wrapped the end with electrical tape to stop the sound.

    I see people talking about using this with the bolts up for ease of installation and to avoid the chain contact you mentioned. However, bolts down like you did is best. The other way pulls the hitch up which puts the tongue weight on the anti-rattle clamp rather than the receiver. This makes it more likely to work itself loose.

    • @Dan-oz4qb
      @Dan-oz4qb 2 роки тому

      @@derekblackwell3189 this is an anti rattle clamp not a weight distributing hitch. The proper way to install is bolts down.

    • @derekblackwell3189
      @derekblackwell3189 2 роки тому

      @@Dan-oz4qb right, but when using a weight distribution hitch, it pushes the hitch bar up in the receiver. So you would want to install this so that it continues to hold the hitchbar at an upward angle so when you hit bumps etc it doesn’t allow it to go down. I’m aware this isn’t a wdh hitch. It prevents movement which I still get with the wdh installed.

    I got one but on my Renegade the Hitch is so wide and little room to for the bar in. I may need to install upside down so plate is on top. Will try both ways. Wish they made a simple wedge or sleeve that can be tapped in and held in place by the pintle pin. The tolerances on these receivers are too big. If they were made, maybe 1/8" wider it would be a tighter fit. Thanks. No directions with mine so looking to see how others installed theirs

    Thieves know to look for both car keys and security keys on trailers mate. Ask any marine slip ramp place and they will tell you that nearly everyone leaves their car keys stored on the car wheels or hiden on the trailer and are easy targets. I know this because I did it with my car keys when I was out on the boat and instead of moving just my empty trailer they moved the entire car and trailer, which I was a bit annoyed at tbh but was told they do it to teach people a lesson as well as move the trailer.

    Like the trailer hitch bracket, don't like the idea of a key stuck to my trailer with a magnet. Why not just hide the key inside your truck or glovebox, maybe a big pothole is enough to pop that magnet and key off the trailer.

    • @chrisnotap
      @chrisnotap  3 роки тому +1

      Truck glovebox works too. I've had this on my trailer for 30 years now! Bumpy roads, city dumps, highways, potholes and it has never come off. If one of my brothers borrows the trailer, they know where the key is. A Neodymium magnet is the only magnet you should use though and JB weld.
