I like FN, but this pistol (like many by FN) is way to expensive for what is being offered or in line with true competitors, like HK or Walther. I have looked at a couple and the factory trigger is a full no go...gritty and weird. No reason for a gun from this brand (and $$) to have that crappy of a trigger. After years of looking, I finally found a used FN 509 tac with a good trigger... Every new one I have tried the trigger is terrible. An optic ready CZ Shadow 2 costs noticeably less then this plastic striker option.
FN is by far the most overrated and overpriced firearm manufacturer out there. Not only with the 509 LS edge, but with the different SCARs, the FN15, etc. More expensive than HKs and not the same level of build quality, durability and testing for military contracts. I recently bought a VP9 Match. Much better pistol, lighter and better trigger, comes with 4 20 round mags, an actual case instead of a cheap bag, different recoil springs, etc, and it was 1050 at my LGS, over 500 bucks cheaper then the 509 LS edge. If you look on GB, 509 LS Edges are consistently listed for 1050-1100, so dealers are heavily discounting them and trying to move product. Very arrogant company FN is.
Seeing as FN has had WAY more military contracts than HK... responsible for 9mm, 5.56, & 5.7 becoming NATO certified cartridges... have SCARs consistency drastically outlast AR, AK, & HK MRs on parts & receiver life (as documented by BLV), consistently has the best barrel life of any OEM manufacturer, FN15 being priced around the same as other Mil-spec rifles (BCM, even cheaper than DD) while coming with that legendary barrel & from the same manufacturer that makes them for our own military... 509's going through over 1 million rounds of testing (including having to pass multiple 50k round burndown days without failure) since it was developed for an actual Military contract unlike the VP9, only striker fired pistol with the combination duel trigger bars (to eliminate the biggest catastrophic failure point in striker fire pistols), completely modular/replaceable internals (including slide rails), completely unique fire-control system (one example: no trigger spring, eliminates yet another common catastrophic failure point) by far the best OEM slide mounted optics system (taps straight into the slide with steel recoil lugs & self-locking screws, plastic spacer plates included to help absorb recoil vibrations to keep the internals of the optic lasting longer & keep the (Trijicon) iron sights at a lower cowitness... all included OTB), legendary hammer forged barrel, great trigger (even he said its better than the HK & its not even broken in), actually designed to be ran suppressed (unlike the VP9 which is one of the worst pistols reliably wise to run suppressed), has a wide range of other calibers available in the platform... a case that's actually functional as a multi-gun range bag & not something you throw away after the initial unboxing. FN is objectively WAY better than HK & has contributed WAYY more to firearm design & standardization throughout history.
@@KennyRodgers930 SCARs are garbage rifles, especially the 30 cal versions. Multiple well documented issues. BCGs on the 30 CAL models cracking in that spot where the forging is thin. It took FN over a decade to get rid of that cheap fixed charging handle design (which they made their customers pay to convert for all those years). Ruining optics because they didn't reinforce the receiver enough where the top rail rides on, and FNs "fix" is tell everyone to use a battle rated optic. Heavy rifles even though they use so much polymer instead of metal. Every person I've known that's owned one has said parts are hard to get for them. CZ Bren 2 is a FAR better rifle for much less money. The FN 5.7 round is a joke. Who cares about the extra capacity when you have much less energy per round? Unless you hit your target in the head or heart, you're putting 4-6 rounds in them before they drop. Yeah it pierces armor, but so does 556. And it's a much cheaper round. The FN15 is a joke as well. Literally the only plus about that rifle is the cold hammer forged barrel. Congrats, tons of manufacturers use those now. It's a very basic rifle otherwise that is not worth the 1500 MSRP. Oh and no case, just a cardboard box. The trigger in the 509 LS edge sucks dude. I've felt it new and I've tested a used model at the range, it's very heavy for a striker fired gun. Almost every guntuber complains about the trigger on that thing. It's funny you talk about all this stuff being replaceable, but again, one of the hardest manufacturers to get parts for. And I bring my cases to the range, I'd much have that protecting my pistol then a bag while it's stored. To each their own, but, FN clearly overprices their stuff and cheaps out in a lot of areas for what they charge, especially when it comes to the SCAR. Their customer service and excuses they make for flaws kills it for me too.
@@twinturbotim1660 Let’s see the evidence of multiple SCARs BCGs breaking when not being overgassed by high back pressure cans, besides the one video from the hunting guy on here… because I can post actual evidence of multiple SCAR platforms outlasting every other platform on the planet. What a beautiful gun!!!!
Excellent video!!!
I just bought this same gun online for $799
Wow!! Steal!!!! Thank you for watching!!
Before watching the entire video I’m guessing the “shocking” thing is the price.
