I bought my 5d mk1 when it came out, and I still own and use it. The quality of the image and the simple spec is actually a joy to use. I won't be selling any day soon ...... or ever. I also still own my very first DSLR in the shape of the lowly Canon 10d .... another bomb proof easy to use camera.
@TheNickle It’s been working really well. For me being a person that doesn’t need to make huge prints, it’s amazing. I also like how it can produce a look that is very real to life unlike most cameras I’ve seen. Its ISO is quite low for today’s standards, but that doesn’t bother me as I’m not a professional. I also get easily overwhelmed by most cameras as most ‘newer’ cameras are overloaded with features. This one forces you to go more ‘traditional’ and that forces you to compose much better!
If Canon and Nikon were smart, they'd produce some simple basic cameras like this again. Just for beginners/shutterbugs or nostalgic enthusiasts. Sometimes less is more which is the theme I'm hearing in your video Hyun. We live in a "more more more" world these days which tends to forget the simple haptic experience we can have with things. Well done, we need more videos like this!
I was gifted a 5D classic before Christmas (as a hand-me-down) and I was thrilled. I got to my family home and took 3 photos and the mirror fell off. I know it is a known issue with the camera. Thankfully, our local camera shop has taken it and say they can fix it. I am excited to get it back in my hands so I can go out and get some arty snap shots. Great video, and great photos at the end. The little dog is so cute!
Hi Hyun, finally I found one today after searching madly for one year. It's in good condition. Couldn't check my temptation to shoot few images with it outdoors this morning. To my profound satisfaction; the images look what I expected - eye-soothing colors and that unique film look. I didn't buy it due to its price tag, I bought it because I fell in love with it after watching numerous videos on it. I've been using 5DII for quite a while already and never felt the need to upgrade to Mark IV. I'm an enthusiast nature and wildlife photographer. From now on, 5D Classic and 5DII will take care of my landscape and street photography needs while the untiring fighter 7D takes care of my wildlife shots (I have two of those). Have tried the Mark II version but, it didn't impress me much. Thank you for the video on Classic, it deserves high respect.
TBH the 5D mark I had a color science that Canon lost on its succesors, the color rendition was AMAZING, cameras today love to overblow saturation in the red channel to make it look more "punchy" but the 5D Mark I and the 1Ds Mark II had (IMHO) the most beautiful color rendition Canon has offered ever.
This is a film camera in digital format. I have owned mine since 2005. The sensor is digital, but has a film look that makes it very popular as a portrait camera when used w/the 85mm 1.8 AF lens. I have a full frame mirror less camera system, but this is my “go to” camera for portraits & headshots. One of my favorite features is you can set up a dedicated B/W shooting mode. Classic B/W film look that todays cameras can’t achieve when converting color to B/W. I use a cheap intervalometer and it makes a great time lapse camera too. You are right in recommending this for beginners, this camera encourages you “how to think” about photography by keeping it simple w/the convenience of digital format. Thank you for such a great review of this little gem.
Good post and I totally agree with the point that you are making. Whilst I recently traded in my 5D MkII for a 5DS, at the same time I returned to shooting 35mm alongside my digital gear, sometimes less is truly more.
Thank you for your video! I was just about to purchase my very first camera to get my foot in the door of photography, I was struggling between 80D and t7i, then I saw your video, which is so very inspirational. And now I think I have my heart set at the 5d mark i
I'm a total novice to photography and have fallen in love with the craft and so I'm very glad to have found your channel and heard your positive appraisal of this truly 'classic' camera as I've lucked out and managed to buy it along with the battery charger, 3 x batteries, strap and Canon remote shutter release for a mere AUD$200. Pick it up next Friday from the store. So far, I've not heard a single bad thing about the 5D Mk1 and am proud to add it alongside my Canon AE-1 PROGRAM that I've had for over 30 years and much younger 200D on the shelf.
Very honest and true review, thanks for sharing! You know what...I just got an original grip in the post today for my 5d and it holds so nicely in the hand that I gave it a go today after soo many years of shooting 5d III (with a very brief period of 5d II) and shot a whole studio photoshoot on it. Guess what...the images are just lovely! But only after the raws have been processed through LR. On the screen everything looks unsharp (even with + all the way up on sharpening in picture styles). At one point I was worried about my choice of gear for the session as everything looked really blunt on the screen. The resulting jpgs, however, are just sooo nice! I got my first 5d in 2005 when it first came out but only now, after so many years of doing photography for my living, can I appriciate how good the 5d actually was (is).
These examples you've sited are true. The camera is timeless, simple, reliable, easy to shoot--perfect context for good photography. And it renders colors like film!
You got your like no. 1000 from me. Your setup 5D plus 50 STM is exactly what I still have and never sold after I purchased a Sony A7 III. Just couldn't do it because I still love the 5D and its simplicity too much. Outstanding job by Canon back in 2005.
You hit everything on the book.. The 5D MK1 is a amazing camera.. One thing I love about dslr.. They really don't depreciate as much even the ef or prime lenses..I love this camera as a former owner before shooting pictures it did great for me.. Boy it's been 7years since I touch a dslr camera again... I guessil be looking for one to play with for blogging.. I was thinking of the mirrorless m50
The Hungry Black Panda Yeah I actually started photography with Sony mirrorless and switched over to Canon this year. Also tried Nikon but just didn’t love them for some reason. This is my all time favorite camera and I’ll never get rid of it.
That was my first full-frame camera. It was special, absolutely. There's just something about that sensor that makes reality look GOOD. I bet in a few years folks will be saying the same things about the first generation of Fuji X bodies, too. I have a Sony a7rII now that obliterates those cameras in every technical respect. But it doesn't make me want to go out and take pictures the way the 5d or my XE-1 did.
Watching in 2019 and owning one just a few hours ago. Now I look professional. Built like a tank. I can now use my canon L lenses full frame. I own 80d, Sony a7iii and a6500.
Same here! I have all my glass from my film days, but only ever picked up crop digital bodies until just this week. Grabbed a 5D classic off a friend. Picking it up today, and looking forward to a 50mm looking like a 50mm again! BTW, I have the original nifty-50 mk1 from the 80s. But wondering if those FD > EF adapters are worth it, to try an old FD 50mm 1.4 on it! (recently picked one up off ebay for a mirrorless M43 camera). Also eager to see my old 50-200 L on it, which I recently read has become a rare lens, only produced in the 1980s. Was alway too long for the crop sensor.
@@HyunRalphJeong From what I can tell, since there isn't enough depth differential between the FD and EF lens mounts (as there is with mirrorless), the only FD > EF options are losing distant focus with the plain adapter. Or, an adapter with an optic that shifts the focal point. But unlike the SLR lens to M43 situation where you gain an f-stop, you end up losing here (bye-bye 1.4 advantage). Plus, lordy knows what that cheap corrective optic is going to add to the distortion. If you try it, let us know what you get. I may just suffice myself with the old nifty and others I have, for now. FWIW, the 50mm on an APS crop makes a wonderful portrait lens. Equivalent to an 80mm on the Canon crops, and 100mm on M43 bodies. All this lens swapping is a creative process in itself.
I've had numerous cameras over the years...made a switch to Nikon for a while. Had the D750 , D700...enjoyed them, sold the D750 and kept the D700. Eventually got a 5d MK1 and was very impressed, subsequently added a 6d and 1ds Mkii ....sold all my other gear. The Canon 6d, 5d mki (classic) and 1ds Mkii are b y far the cameras that produce the best image quality I have ever used.
Thank you for the review. Memories can be deceiving. I retired my 5D classic fifteen years ago. The camera had its limitations even back in 2006, at least compared to the 1DS Mk 2. Even with dedicated macro lenses and Canon's ring light, the 5D classic had issues with flowers. You are correct that the 5D classic is superior to the joke cameras on cell-phones. They seem to rely on digital fakery to stabilize and sharpen an image. I recently took my 5D out of its bag and was disappointed to see mold under the glass covering the LCD panel. The rubber ring around the mode selector has also deteriorated enough that touching the control leaves ugly black stains on your fingertip. So much for nostalgia. I just hope that the thousands of dollars I spent on Canon lenses during the same period of time are not a waste in 2021. The R series cameras may balk at me using dinosaur lenses through an adapter.
I'm glad I came across this video, I recently purchased a 5D and was having some doubt. I'm no pro or never reach that level. I shoot with a 30d and I feel that the 5D is a nice upgrade, And your video have me reassurance. Thank you !
Me too. I've had the 30D since 2007 and last year bought the 5D. Together with 50Art and 100/2.8L and two old zooms. Great cameras: simple and effective. Both feel sturdy. I like the image quality out of the 5D a bit more, and of course because it is full frame.
Lovet video! I have a 80d myself and are going to purchase a 5d classic this week. Which of them comes out on top image quality wise? Which do you use the most? I’m purchasing the 5d as my first full frame and from I’m investing in glass.
Nick thank you! Once you get used to the full frame look, you will never go back. But if you’re looking for dynamic range or low light performance, something like a 6D might be better. But if you want something artistic or analogue, than you’ll be happy with the 5D. Its only downside is that it can’t shoot video.
Hyun Ralph Jeong thanks for the response :). The 6d is still a little expensive here in Denmark, so I’ll start out with the 5d and build from there! Keep up the great work! Subscribed
I bought a 5D preowned. I wanted a digital camera not one that records video. The DSLRs that record video overheats when recording for extended period of time. Instead I bought a Canon Vixia HF G40 video recorder. I bought it refurbished from Canon saving $400. It's an amazing video recorder and when paired with a external directional mic with a dead cat we're talking exceptional videos. My only complaint is the lack of a pause for recording. Each time the recording is stopped and restarted a new file is created which need to be stiched together post-production.
I am using my 5D for >10 Years, my Main DSLR, still in 2018. And you've missed one heavy point - the EF 40/2.8 STM *is* a amazing do-it-all Lens, vs the 50/1.8 STM. It's a small Pancake, and amazing, for what it does - Price/Performance Ratio. But, here's the thing - the last CPS do the MirrorFix, just google for it. It was all being said about the 5D since 2005. ;-) I wouldn't ever buy a 5D without Mirrorfix applied, 2nd Hand. Got mine fixed by Canon for free into 2015.
The 40/2.8 is amazing but I never owned one. Size and weight are not really a big issue for me so didn't really feel necessary to get it on top of the 50/1.8 and other 35mm lenses and also the 16-35 and 24-70 2.8s. I heard that Canon fixed the mirror issue with the units with model numbers starting with 2 and higher But I can't comfirm that. And I don't use the mark i professionally so it's something I can deal with "if" it happens :)
They have had fixed all Serial-No, which was 04xxxxxxx up to 34xxxxxxxxx All are being affected by that Issue. When Canon made this issue public, the 5D II was being already out half a year. meaning fixed, because the 5D is being long out of it's service grace period via CPS. But some Service Centers still have the parts for the Mirrorfix - but it doesn't come for free, you pay into germany between 100-149 EUR roughly. @@HyunRalphJeong
This video inspired me (who owns a 1200d and M50) to convince my dad to hand me down his 1D MARK iii that he used professionally for gigs in Sepang for the 2007 GT races (we are Malaysian btw) I'm not a pro like he was but taking that old 1D Mark III out for a spin is refreshing It was simple, reliable and just.. i dont know how to put it but it simply felt good to operate I guess thats what you meant by shifting a Miata and accelerating it... simply the experience of operating a vintage beauty is just... i didnt want to hold my EOS1200D or M50 for quite some time and just fell in love with our old 1D that was collecting dust (i was lucky that the battery still could hold a charge)
@@coffeemanray Thank you and glad you enjoyed the video. My dad wasn't a professional but he taught me how to take photos with his old Nikon. Unfortunately he also claims I broke the camera haha
Recently I'm getting interested in 5d classic or 5dmk2 because of their price, even though I already have an a7m3. Their performances are still good enough for photographies (sadly not for video works), I think. If someone asks me what camera he or she should get on the budget, I will recommend it with a 50mm f1.8 lens :)
I'm seriously looking to get this camera. I've decided to go back to school for photography and was going to get a full frame as a graduation present to myself but I just found out that I'm required to have a full frame camera and a 35mm film camera. Thus the reason for looking at the 5D classic. My grandfather gave me his Minolta X-370n for the film camera. I remember Jamie Windsor did a video but I wanted to check out a few more videos first. This one has been very helpful, especially showing the menu system
Thank you! This is a beautiful camera. Jamie Windsor inspired me to start my UA-cam channel I love his videos. Please let me know if you end up getting the camera or if you have any questions.
@@HyunRalphJeong hey I ended up going to the camera store and checking out a few used full frames. I ended up getting an A7. Not to say the 5D classic is, bad. It just wasn't for me. I appreciate the help either way and I wish there were more channels like yours
5D Classic from Adorama in "excellent" condition for $409. Should I buy? Debating between Nikon D700 that is selling for $639 in the same condition. The camera will mainly be used for shooting portraits outdoors. Thanks for the review!!!
Thank you! :) They're both great but I personally prefer Canon because Canon lenses in general tend to be cheaper so I get to try more variety of shots with the same budget which is the main reason I switched from Sony and Nikon. So unless you already have a bunch of Nikon lenses or budget isn't an issue, I'd go with the 5D.
Its funny, I still shoot with this AND I have a 1990 Mazda Miata in my garage for the summer! This camera is still all anyone would need, it matches well with the 24-105mm f4L for general purpose and prints beautifully even at 20x24in with fantastic colors, especially compared to high MP APC cameras.
Joe Cap haha nice. I’m so jealous of the miata. Everyone has different standards but 12mp is more than what most people need as long as you have good glass and can manage to focus.
I love this video , I have one of my camera old the 5D I , and when I talk picture inside with light 💡 the result is not clean it my images are blurry , Please can you help how can I set it and have great picture when I take picture inside
Black Music Record Prod Hi, if your images are blurry, you shutter speed is probably too low. Watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/uyXiWF3mI2s/v-deo.html
for my review I've been using diff type of brand of camera but in the end canon for me is the best it's cool when it comes to photoshoot time and affordable for me. You know bro your channel is the best to watch esp those who are beginner's in photography /videography its a good content they really learned a lot ideas awesome 👍👍👍
A nice camera. To be truthful, I would like to get one too as a secondary camera. My only concern is with service. At a recent conversation with Canon Service, I was told that Canon longer supports the 5D Classic. This means that if you purchased a used 5D Classic, you better pray that it stays good, or find a 3rd party service connection. Canon also said that they will officially stop supporting the 5D MK II as of November 2019. This is painful news indeed. Placing a service tombstone on a classic camera that still rocks in today's day and age. I guess the Canon folks want people to spend the $4000 on the MK IV.
msbrownbeast I dropped mine and messed up the screen once and got it repaired and cleaned by a local camera shop. Costed me about $200 but considering what I paid for the camera it was still worth it haha. It’s a shame that Canon is not servicing them but that wouldn’t stop me from buying one
Well, that being said, if I should come across a used 5D Classic in good condition, I would be tempted to buy! Just too many unneeded bells and whistles with current models, all coming at a premium price. No one will be able to tell the difference between 12mps vs 30mps on a computer screen. Save the money and invest in quality glass.
I don’t know much about camera specifications yet but this helps me a lot about what to get for my next professionial camera. Thanks for this video. Very informative 👍
I had that camera back in the day but no matter how great it was, it had problem with back focusing. So that and all the lack of live view drove me crazy...
John White Thank you, I personally haven’t printed anything that size from this camera but it’s totally possible. Sure, higher megapixel cameras will produce better photos but from over 2m viewing distance, it would be hard to tell the difference.
Currently own a t1i with a 50mm 1.8. I'm debating on buying a 35mmf2 or this full frame camera. I don't have a lot of money at the moment, and I've only been shooting for a year, but I love it.
Hi, your video really give me some inspiration! Just want to ask your opinion, i have 5d classic and if you were me would you upgrade the body or buy sigma 35mm 1.4 and 24mm 1.4?
apiswee thank you :) if you don’t have any other similar lenses, I’d definitely get the lenses first. With bodies, you won’t notice a huge difference unless you buy a 6D or a 5D mark iii. What sort of photos do you shoot?
I am struggling to decide between the 5d Classic and the 7d mark i. Mostly use it for portraits. Any suggestions please? PS its going to be my first camera.
Good info and great pics. Have to say that you have a very good set of primes which do add a lot of $ to the package. Body plus the 50 1.8 STM a very good starter combo.
Thank you and yep, the 50/1.8 is a great value. I always buy lenses used and 90% of the time I can re-sell them for the same amount or more. I like to think of them as long term rentals haha
i was hunting around for a good camera and ran into an a6000 for $250 brand new and with a kit lense. it was a steal. so yeah its old tech but its just good enough for me to learn on
Really want one of these together with a 35 f2 and 85 f1.8.. it'll have to wait a little longer, at least until I find a new job - would make a great addition to my X-T1 (daily street shooter with pancake) and Panasonic G80 (for tele and zoom shooting).
Hello sir! I am beginning in photography and still learning. I have canon 550d and planning upgrade. Is canon 5d classic is good to upgrade? Is canon 5d classic is good in 2021?
Great video, I’ve found one secondhand for £200. I’m a Nikon man really owning a D3 and D800 but would like something a bit more minimalist for personal use, the 5d and a 50mm 1.8 seems to fit the bill. I might have to pull the trigger and get one 🤔
Nicholas Brooks that’s a great combo. I used to shoot Nikon but eventually fully switched to Canon mainly because the lenses were cheaper and fell in love with the mark i.
@@HyunRalphJeong I shoot quite a bit with Canon at the moment as I'm at University and have access to 5D Mark iii's and loads of Canon lenses, and the Canon glass is really nice in comparison to the Nikon stuff, the 50 and 85 1.2's are insane and in my opinion the 70-200 2.8 Canon is better than the Nikon; however, I don't like the bodies anywhere near as much, which is a shame as the lenses are often cheaper and better. I think i might grab that MK1 as a toy because I love the way the files look, the film like colours from the sensor are just amazing.
@@nbrooks1799 Yeah the Nikon bodies are amazing. They feel much more durable and tactile. But I for some reason still prefer Canon bodies. Also missed having a thumbstick on the D810.
I have one, great camera, I love its image with some of film grain look, very nice. It's indeed not comparable to modern pro/prosumer DSLR or mirrorless but it is a great machine.
I'm frantically looking for one. I got the mkii version in 2018. Now, I find it difficult to find the classic! The reason? I love bigger pixels for their special characteristics.
Great analysis. I just got one 2 days ago. I've been shooting a long time, started with film. I just want a camera, not a robot that does everything for me. I agree about the 12mp, I had a 10d with 6mp and printed 13x19 with no problem, very nice rendering etc. After all in a large print do most people view close enough to see the pixels :-) Thanks and beautiful photos at the end of the video.
Hey. I just bought this camera in 2021. Had a brief photoshoot after that. And I have to say, I enjoyed this camera so much, that I almost forgotten my Sony A7R3. Ps: I love the shutter sound as well
I bought one yesterday, should be here in 2 days. Then, I bought one with Err99 message with a battery grip and 4 batteries VERY cheap. Honestly, I'd much rather switch to Sony but, until I get adopted by Oprah, I don't see that happening. EDIT: I got the Canon 5D today - like brand new! It only has 9,375 shutter actuations! It also had a like-new battery grip that wasn't listed in the ad. I am very excited about this deal. This one came from Korea. No idea how a 13-year-old camera could be so pristine, but I'm sure happy about it.
Nice! They've been probably sitting in someone's closet half of their lives. Waiting for new owners like us haha. I actually started from Sony and now I only use Canon. I like their lenses and they have a much bigger used market so their lenses are more affordable. Makes photography much more fun rather than just worrying about corner sharpness and dynamic ranc and things like that.
I just picked up a 5D Classic. So far, so good, but I did noticed that the viewfinder is somewhat darker then my other Canon cameras (7D, and a 5D MKII). I was wondering if this is normal for the 5D Classic, perhaps the focusing screen?
Hi! I tried to shoot the 5D1 but absolutely all photos are unsharp even if I used the Sigma 135mm 1.8 Art. Can you recommend a setting or could we calibrate the body itself? Your photos are amazingly sharp!!! Any advice will help. Thanks!
what an amazing video! i shoot abandoned houses and arquicteture and im planing to upgrade from my sony HX 60 that ive been using over a years now, shoud i get 5d mark 1 vs 7d vs nikon d5300? pls help me!!! (great shots btw)
Rodrick HD Thank you! I personally would definitely choose the 5D. If you shoot a lot of low light photos I’d also recommend the original 6D. I’d stay with full frame no matter what you get. I also find most canon lenses to be cheaper and sharper than Nikon’s.
Rodrick HD - I use a Nikon D610, Nikon D5200, Nikon D3300, Canon 5D mk1, Fuji X100 and so on... The thing I have learnt is that GLASS IS EVERYTHING because I don't like to edit (Lr etc). So the real question is are you going to edit or are you trying to get it right in camera? I personally don't need raw except for my commercial work. My "Art" is from camera. If that is your preference then the next question is Colour or Black and White? I mostly use manual Nikkor AIS lenses. They are excellent glass and very cheap. You can see examples on various combos on my flickr or on my YT. Example for colour D5200+AIS(I think 28mm) www.flickr.com/photos/alex_jackson-smith/34935062604/ Examples for BW check the front of flickr. www.flickr.com/people/155516414@N04/ I like the 5dmk1 but there are things that you need to know. For example: it is not 100% coverage and you have no live view. The sensor must be cleaned manually... and so on. I have a video on stuff like that. The 5d mk1 is cheap. The colour from camera is good, but the colour from Nikon is better IF YOU CHANGE THE INTERNAL PROFILES. The way colour is processed by the 5Dmk1 is film like, but as the colour pic above shows the GLASS and INTERNAL RENDER settings on a NIKON with the higher MP count is actually better. I hope that helps. Alex.,
Alex Jackson-Smith yeah I used to have a D810 and D500 but decided to fully switch to Canon mostly because I liked Canon lenses better and they were cheaper. And Nikon sensor is obviously superior and Canon color in my opinion is a bit overrated. But for reasons I can’t really explain well I still prefer Canon bodies and lenses. Maybe they felt a bit too cold and high-tech? Lol but I guess we all find whatever works for us.
I got a 5D Mark II recently, even with the marks on the sensor :( , it still is an amazing camera. The IQ is amazing, the usability is so much clearer and more easier to use than my 700D, or my 7D. The Mark I & II are still amazing camera's to use. So straight forward.
Man.. i was really looking for this video! I have the canon 80d but i really want a full frame, do you think the 5d classic have better quality for stills than the 80d?
@@KenzoVerseYT Quality can be subjective but it will definitely produce more "artistic" images. 12mp vs 24mp, dynamic range is almost non-existent, but much more rewarding when you get it right. Also so affordable it's worth it. Feel free to ask me any more questions.
@@HyunRalphJeong thanks for replying! @@KenzoVerseYT Haha I'm not much an expert in video but I used to have an 80D. As with photography, good gear is nice but light is everything. I recently Purchased one for 350 bucks. Within a week the mirror fell out during a shoot with friends. Its currently on Now Question is Should i take my chance and buy another 5d classic or go ahead and upgrade to the mark 2 or 3. 10 years ago i shot with nikon. But i really loved that 5d for 4 days ;) help thx
Scott Scott The mirror might be an easy fix I heard that happened quite often with earlier models. Just take it to a local camera shop and it could be as simple as just gluing the mirror back on. I would say if you are debating between mark ii and iii, I also suggest getting a 6D. You can get a used one for 6-700 now on ebay. I use mark iiis for my work because of dual card slots but the 6D’s image quality should be equal or better.
@@HyunRalphJeong Realistically I don't need video, and if I pick up another classic and the mirror falls out I probably will just opt for a iii. Plus saving money is great. Got my eye on a 85mm.
I am interested in the picture quality of the 6d, something about that 5d and the images it captures. I personally was jealous of when i used to shoot nikon.
@@scotttruten3557 I actually switched from Sony and Nikon as well. Only tried Nikon briefly with a D810 and a D500 but for some reason I just couldn't love them. I'm not sophisticated enough to scientifically compare the images but I've always liked the Canon bodies and lenses better.
Every Canon service will replace and fix the mirror for free, it's an officially confirmed issue. Happened to me and they fixed it with a brand new mirror in 1 day. Cheers!
Motasim Momin other than the resolution, the colors are pretty similar and the mk iii definitely wins in low light/high iso. I do have the 70-200 2.8L ii and I have used it with both mark i and iii and it’s fantastic. What sort of work do you do?

John Haynes thank you and glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for your video! I was just about to purchase my very first camera to get my foot in the door of photography, I was struggling between 80D and t7i, then I saw your video, which is so very inspirational. And now I think I have my heart set at the 5d mark i
熊TSBB-xy thank you! They are all great cameras but once you get used to that full-frame look, it’s hard to go back.
That's a pretty good deal! It really is a great fun camera. It's refreshing to use a camera that's simpler than your phone.
I still have mine, bought it new in 2006 and recently had it converted to infrared and produces stunning images
Canon 5D is a legend . Still working (2019) but the batteries with it are almost dead.
These examples you've sited are true. The camera is timeless, simple, reliable, easy to shoot--perfect context for good photography. And it renders colors like film!
This video was exactly what I was looking for in 2020 deciding if I should buy a 5d, thanks man!
I still have mine. It was my first DSLR back in 2007, although I now have the 1DX and other 5D's. I still love using the classic. Great review
Thank you very much!
You got your like no. 1000 from me. Your setup 5D plus 50 STM is exactly what I still have and never sold after I purchased a Sony A7 III. Just couldn't do it because I still love the 5D and its simplicity too much. Outstanding job by Canon back in 2005.
Thank you! And yes, I still use it and will never get rid of it.
Congrats! This is such a fun camera to use.
very expensive gears im jealous :( i wish i had one of your camera :(
The Portraitist Never tried the adapter but might be a fun experiment...I have the FD 50 1.4 as well
@@HyunRalphJeong From what I can tell, since there isn't enough depth differential between the FD and EF lens mounts (as there is with mirrorless), the only FD > EF options are losing distant focus with the plain adapter.
One thing that really enticed me is the simplicity of menus. Talking about the mirrorless menus.
Hello from Brazil, I got this camera and totally agree with you, it's such an amazing camera and it will last forever. Thanks for the video.
I'm glad I came across this video, I recently purchased a 5D and was having some doubt. I'm no pro or never reach that level. I shoot with a 30d and I feel that the 5D is a nice upgrade, And your video have me reassurance. Thank you !
Arturo Acosta glad I could help :) it is a great camera
Me too. I've had the 30D since 2007 and last year bought the 5D. Together with 50Art and 100/2.8L and two old zooms. Great cameras: simple and effective. Both feel sturdy. I like the image quality out of the 5D a bit more, and of course because it is full frame.
@@boudewijnj.m.kegels5198 I'll look into those lens, I used the 5d this passed weekend at the grand canyon and was very happy with the images.
Subscribed
Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts and seeing your images. Great stuff!
Ulysses Grant Parm thank you :) glad you liked them
I bought a 5D preowned.
She's got amazing shots. I did not have any situations where there were not enough functions of this camera.
Витя yeah camera reviews nowadays always focus more on the negatives but as I get better in photography numbers and specs seem to matter less
I decided to buy a used Canon 5D Classic today. $400 AUD in almost perfect condition with 7000 shots. Looking forward to using it. :)
U FROM MELBOURNE?
@@JaredUy Yeah bro.
TheNickle im getting mine tomorrow. hope to do some photography walks with u bro
This video inspired me (who owns a 1200d and M50) to convince my dad to hand me down his 1D MARK iii that he used professionally for gigs in Sepang for the 2007 GT races (we are Malaysian btw)
I'm not a pro like he was but taking that old 1D Mark III out for a spin is refreshing
It was simple, reliable and just.. i dont know how to put it but it simply felt good to operate
I guess thats what you meant by shifting a Miata and accelerating it... simply the experience of operating a vintage beauty is just... i didnt want to hold my EOS1200D or M50 for quite some time and just fell in love with our old 1D that was collecting dust (i was lucky that the battery still could hold a charge)
I think it wouldn't have had the thought until i stumbled across this video... subbed
Love your videos ☺️ So simple and nicely explains. You deserve more subscribers! Great job, pictures looks amazing ☺️
The Recipe Journal thank you!
I've never considered getting an older camera but might be the most viable and affordable option to get my hands on a full frame pro cam!
Luna Wroblewski thank you and A7 is a great camera :) have fun and good luck with your school
@@HyunRalphJeong thanks! I'll do my best!
D700 is one of the best.cameras made ...
Gear does not need to be a barrier. I still use my Canon 550d professionally.
great video! Thanks man, I also own 5Dc and really love it.
Thank you!
THANK YOU FOR REVIEWING
that was soo helpful for me
*personal question* are you korean - american ?
for my review I've been using diff type of brand of camera but in the end canon for me is the best it's cool when it comes to photoshoot time and affordable for me. You know bro your channel is the best to watch esp those who are beginner's in photography /videography its a good content they really learned a lot ideas awesome 👍👍👍
Thank you for the kind words :) I started with Sony and Nikon but I love my Canon cameras now.
15 years and still kicking in 2020
A nice camera.
Save the money and invest in quality glass.
it's my back up camera...it's great
I don’t know much about camera specifications yet but this helps me a lot about what to get for my next professionial camera. Thanks for this video. Very informative 👍
Toys R KidsTV thank you glad i could help :)
Thanks for the review. Any luck finding a grip all these years later?
Joshua Gaspar I was able to find one on ebay pretty easily. And a lot of people seem to sell them with the camera as well.
I had that camera back in the day but no matter how great it was, it had problem with back focusing. So that and all the lack of live view drove me crazy...
Great stuff - well done on the video. Do you really think you can print the files from a 5D classic 32X24?
John White Thank you, I personally haven’t printed anything that size from this camera but it’s totally possible. Sure, higher megapixel cameras will produce better photos but from over 2m viewing distance, it would be hard to tell the difference.
What a nice nostalgic video.
lovepraypaint Thank you:)
Currently own a t1i with a 50mm 1.8. I'm debating on buying a 35mmf2 or this full frame camera. I don't have a lot of money at the moment, and I've only been shooting for a year, but I love it.
Go with the 5D once you add that 50mm 1.8 you'll never look back
Hi, your video really give me some inspiration!
Just can't believe such a amazing pictures can be done with a 14 years old camera !

nice smart info on , yes still a fantastic camera. Nice DOF / Bokeh on the flower shots
I like to think of them as long term rentals haha
i was hunting around for a good camera and ran into an a6000 for $250 brand new and with a kit lense. it was a steal. so yeah its old tech but its just good enough for me to learn on
It is very good, informative presentation.
Really want one of these together with a 35 f2 and 85 f1.8.. it'll have to wait a little longer, at least until I find a new job - would make a great addition to my X-T1 (daily street shooter with pancake) and Panasonic G80 (for tele and zoom shooting).

Kwon's Corner haha that’s the dream for all of us
Hello sir! I am beginning in photography and still learning. I have canon 550d and planning upgrade. Is canon 5d classic is good to upgrade? Is canon 5d classic is good in 2021?

not so great at super high ISO but it's a fine camera, still have mine
Todd Lavigne Just bought another one too haha
what do you recommend for portrait photography for a beginner ? . I currently have Canon EOS Rebel T4i
It came out when i was one and i am going to buy it 14 years later, i hope it is still good.
Which is the good for photography Canon eos 5d mark i or canon eos 60d or 70d,
One thing to add - even though the camera is old, RAW processors are not. Plenty of their algorithms have gotten better over 13+ years.
Thank you for the video... I am going to go buy 5d Classic in the next month... ;)
Avellitto thank you for watching. You won’t regret it :)
I still want this camera

Is this a good camera for studio pbotography?
Actually, you can’t check the shutter count in 5d classic, it could be 19,000 or 59,000 because the number always reset to zero
Thanks!

Maybe the camera has back focus issues and I doubt the 5dc has micro adjustments. Have you tried using native Canon EF lenses?
what an amazing video! i shoot abandoned houses and arquicteture and im planing to upgrade from my sony HX 60 that ive been using over a years now, shoud i get 5d mark 1 vs 7d vs nikon d5300? pls help me!!!
Example for colour D5200+AIS(I think 28mm)

I like the 5dmk1 but there are things that you need to know.
Alex Jackson-Smith your photos look great by the way, I’ll watch more of your videos. And thank you for your support as well :)
Get the 5😁D
I got a 5D Mark II recently, even with the marks on the sensor :( , it still is an amazing camera. The IQ is amazing, the usability is so much clearer and more easier to use than my 700D, or my 7D.
The Mark I & II are still amazing camera's to use. So straight forward.
Is there a program for the 5D classic to covert to video as well?
항상 좋은영상 감사합니다! 사진을 시작한지 얼마되지않아서 덕분에 많은정보를 알아가네요
CLEAN AF! Now im really sure to cop one
Man.. i was really looking for this video! I have the canon 80d but i really want a full frame, do you think the 5d classic have better quality for stills than the 80d?
I'll much appreciate your response!
I'm a beginner photographer and i really want to get into Filmmaking too, i was thinking switch to sony for the video but i already have a couple of canon lenses and it cost too much for me to switch right now. I see you are a canon shooter, what advise can you get me to get the most out of my 80d ?
@@KenzoVerseYT Haha I'm not much an expert in video but I used to have an 80D. As with photography, good gear is nice but light is everything. If you can get the lighting right, your videos will look decent even with simple editing. Keep experimenting and UA-cam is obviously a great place to learn everything :)
Cheers!
One of the most beautiful comment about can5d.
Stefanita Sandu one of the most beautiful comments, thank you haha
Thank you. And I loved your photos.
Thank you!
Good review. Thanks a lot.
How is Photo quality 5 D classic v/s 5D Mark 3 .
Can you guide me .and pleas tell me may I buy 70 - 200 / 2.8 for my canon 5D Mark 1 .
Motasim Momin other than the resolution, the colors are pretty similar and the mk iii definitely wins in low light/high iso. I do have the 70-200 2.8L ii and I have used it with both mark i and iii and it’s fantastic. What sort of work do you do?
How’s the eye af on this camera?
CAN I USE A SPEEDLIGHT WITH THIS. WILL IT ALLOW ME? ALREADY OWN ONE.
Works with mine
TTL speed lights even. Ive used the Flashpoint system with it
l thought about buying one. But l'm going to wait until l can get a 5d mkii for 300usd because the mkii has a larger LCD screen and higher ISOs. Until then l'm shooting APS-C.
Na Miata owner here and 5D Classic owner here. The Miata is still the most fun car to drive and I'll never sell it. Same with this Camera. It's not the best tho, but it makes me a better photographer for sure :)
Hello. do you use please ETTR (expose to the right) with this camera ? Thx
Linus Rasputin shouldn’t you always? :)
