It's one that a lot of Zeppelin fans seem to ignore but one of the best. Glad that you enjoyed it. I watch on my TV so hardly ever comment. You both are great my friends!
My only problem is track order. Nobody's fault but mine should have been track number 1. Love Page's playing on presence the most probably out of all Zep albums
Good morning from the USA!! Still morning in parts of America. Having my cup of coffee and some Led Zeppelin for breakfast. Breakfast of champions ! 😁😉👍
This is one of my favourite songs, I love everything from the drums, bass line, lyrics, vocals, guitars...It feels like a battle in Ancient Times with horses galloping, although it's actually about going on a break to Morrocco. Great reaction 👍🏼
Dominique, what you said about feeling free : Robert has said that he wrote those lyrics while confined and limited by his injuries. I think in LA. And he felt so TRAPPED. And he thought of the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and how he wished to be there and feel free again and untethered. You caught the feeling of the lyrics completely! 😁
One of my favorite Zeppelin songs. It takes around 10 times listening to it to love it more and more and then understand all the words on top of the killer music. I am going to watch the reaction now and I am sure you will like it but it might seem drawn out the first time out.
So glad you chose the studio version for your first time listening to this song. Thanks for the reaction. Impossible to choose a favorite Zep tune but this one is definitely up there ! 🍀✌️from Boston MA. USA
Just an outstanding piece of creativity and music artistry. They all shine on this one but John Henry Bonham's drumming is like 10 galloping horses running into battle totally mesmerising.
The versión live is amazing!! Jimi was intoxicated in this time but his performance was impecable.....And Robert, so beautiful and so sad (cause his song passed away. Bonzo was espectacular in the drums, and The Knebworth live performance was his last big concert. So good this song in live
This is one of the greatest things that you get from Led Zeppelin, a unique song everytime its not the same ole sounds over & over like most bands with LZ you get killer tunes each time you strap in with the best band in the world. ✌️😎 Thank you for the reaction, and I'm sure you already know that it's amazing live, so please check it out 😉
The planets were aligned when these four extremely talented individuals got together and with Jimmy Page's genius, created a band that is out of this world.
Robert Plant sang this from a wheelchair after suffering multiple fractures ( including his ankle / Achilles heel ) in a car crash on the Greek island of Rhodes in August 1975. He wasn’t able to tour again until April 1977.
Just watched a clip of a Robert Plant interview (recent) and he said this is his favorite Zeppelin song. He said he wished this song got the attention that "Stairway" got. It's one of my favorites too.
He has said the same of Kashmir. But I have indeed hear him say that he was in absolute awe of the musicianship displayed by Jimmy, Bonzo and JPJ on this track. And as far as an example of their supreme musicianship, it was the best. I would refer you to a wonderful and poignant clip on UA-cam of a tribute Robert gave to Jimmy in 2007 Just ask for a Robert Plant tribute Jimmy Page. It’s heart warming. He mentions Achilles Last Stand in it.
Definitely their hardest ground pounding song. Bonzo just completely going all out Gonzo on this drum smashing masterpiece. I can only imagine how John must have been after this stamina wrecker. Great reaction to this absolute shredder by the best!
I am always happy when I hear this song. I bought "Presence" when I was 15 - 1978. Achilles last stand was always giving me the feeling to continou, to start new things, to be brave, feeling free. Love is when you let your loved ones develop - so for me this beautiful song is about love for mankind
The flamenco influence if you pay close attention, is in some passages of the guitar solo, of course flamenco is done with acoustic guitar and here is electric, the other flamenco part is the drums brakes that on first impression sound like machine gun rapid fire is really Bonham emulating a flamenco dancer furios and sophisticated feet tapping on the wood floor, great reaction guys, top shelf composition by Zeppelin!
I've been waiting thee whole time for you guys to do this one. You're so right tho, you need to listen to it more than once to get it all in. The live version knebwerth 1979 is awesome too!!
That's called lead drums 🥁 🪘 👌 he was faster than any guitar 🎸 😜 jpj holding his corner of the whole riff ❤ I told my parents in the early 70s Led zeppelin is the best band ever 😂😂❤❤ they never told me to turn it down 😂❤❤❤
Thanks guys once again for doing my pick! As I mentioned this song is not in my top 10 it’s actually not even in my top 20 but obviously a great moment for Led Zeppelin and a huge milestone. Just one of those ones I personally don’t listen to as much as others… But I knew you had to hear it!… Alright next request is going to be back to a live video!… speaking of drums…
Another nice reaction video. The best live version of Achilles Last Stand is the one from the Knebworth Festival in 1979. The many guitar layers were well achieved using echo effects. Robert Plant is very receptive to different types of world music and also loves oriental music styles in particular. There are many examples of this on his solo albums, such as "Slow Dancer", Reckless Love or on the Page Plant album from 1998 "Most High". I saw them live back then and the opening act included a lot of oriental music and a belly dancer. At a session for MTV, Jimmy and Robert played with a band and an Egyptian orchestra.
This masterpiece is definitely the perfect song for Bonham & Page. My understanding is Page played 12 overdubs on this song, yet pulls it off so great live. I can’t remember who it was, but a friend from another band told Jimmy, they’d never pull this song off live. In the live it’s so great, you can see the fun, & being happy how great they played it. Love this song so much, but then I love all but maybe 2 of their songs. As always, thank you for your reactions.
I think part of tbe theme is the freedom of travel, but there is also a darker reference as a parallel to the story of Achilles, he was the greatest warrior the world had ever seen, leading the greatest army to successfully destroy the greatest city, only to die from an arrow piercing his heel, the only way he could be killed. Zeppelin were at the top of their game, their success was monumental, no-one could touch them. Almost too good to be true, what would be the price? In fact, Page had begun a Heroin addiction, Bonzo had a serious alcohol problem and I think Robert's accident must have raised some doubts as a reality check. He would soon after lose his son to a terminal illness. So that last refrain was one that must have rang very true for Robert Plant ; "The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth.."
hopefully you will also review these led zep songs: thank you, nobody's fault but mine, fool in the rain, celebration day, immigrant song, down by the seaside
This is the best song ever made about tax evasion! ("it was an April morning when they told us you should go" - they had to go in April, because if they'd stayed longer in the UK, they would have to pay more taxes there). And just to be clear, tax evasion is good, because what else is taxation if not a protection money racket?!
It is not really about tax evasion. It is about their travels/journeys and in particular references the 1975 USA tour ..and the title is Plant reflecting whether that would be his last stand as he had the accident in August 75 on the tour break.
Anybody interested; i bought “the object” sitting on table of album cover on line about 4 yrs ago. Somebody was making them with 3D printer. Its awesome and a must have unique piece of curiosity🤘❤️
With John Bonham, you don't hear the drums, you FEEL them.
You can see the band galloping along with him until he wears them all out😍😍
Top notch Zeppelin. Still blows my mind after 45 years.
If Led Zeppelin only released this track they would still be one of the greatest bands of all time.
"The mighty arms of Atlas hold the Heavens from the Earth"...epic!
The drums are like honey to my ears too!
This live 1979 at knebworth is ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!!! The live is even better!!
One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs!
Greatest rock drum track ever delivered, Period.
It's one that a lot of Zeppelin fans seem to ignore but one of the best. Glad that you enjoyed it. I watch on my TV so hardly ever comment. You both are great my friends!
I'm 59 and totally guilty of almost ignoring this track! I'd forgotten how truly superb it is!!
The whole album is brilliant
My only problem is track order. Nobody's fault but mine should have been track number 1. Love Page's playing on presence the most probably out of all Zep albums
Glad you two are continuing down the Led Zeppelin journey. This song live at Knebworth August 4th 1979 is worth a review.
Poor Jimmy has the opiiod sweats lol
Been there.
John Bonham’s drumming is so good 😊 Thank you for sharing ❤
Yeah, i was wondering a little when the guy who gave the song to 66samus said "you nailed it on the first time!"... no, you didn't:)
Zeppelin at their progressive best! The drumming is insane. What endurance by the large one!
Who today has the courage and stamina to write a song like this in today's music genre? Great reaction you two.🎸🥁
TOOL
I could never imagine a song like this being released by Gen Z 😂
Just as great live....Knebworth, 1979.
One word for this song ---- EPIC !!!!
The final track on this album, Tea For One, for me is the ultimate Zep song. Slow, dark and bluesy, layered, psychedelic, long and beautiful.
And Jimmy’s personal favourite Guitar Solo 👏👏
Best sounding drums on any record.
So crispy.
It's one of those songs you never get tired of hearing.
Good morning from the USA!! Still morning in parts of America. Having my cup of coffee and some Led Zeppelin for breakfast. Breakfast of champions ! 😁😉👍
This amazing Zep tune is like a group of horses that just gallop till it's over. Great Live version available as well. Cheers from canada.
I have such a strong connection to this song since my youth. I'm 63. Glad you enjoyed it.
This is one of my favourite songs, I love everything from the drums, bass line, lyrics, vocals, guitars...It feels like a battle in Ancient Times with horses galloping, although it's actually about going on a break to Morrocco. Great reaction 👍🏼
First time I heard this song I thought no way this is fantastic what a song
MONSTER of a track

SIMPLY THE GOATS!!!!!!!!!! Live is always better! PERIOD! 👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Finally, finally!!! 🎉😊 Monster of a song! Monster!! Every listen is like the first!!! Great reaction. Thank you, made my day.
Absolute Epic journey in musical form.
Thank you for reaction! My favorite. The guitar army that the studio spawned for Jimmy. 😊
Brilliant track.
You should now check out Tea For One off the same album.
Welcome to my high-school days. 😊😊😊
Such an incredible song thank you
Great reaction, one of my favs of all time. Cheers!🌀🤘

The 14 year old teenager in me always loved this song 😊now that I’m 62 I love it even more!
I was 15!
More fantastic Led Zeppelin!!!❤❤❤❤❤

Best song by Led Zeppelin
Really need to do the live version at knebworth John goes off with his drumming
I had to hear this a dozen times or so before I REALLY got into it. So much going on.
i love that you love the mighty zep and hear what i hear in my favourite band ever.love watching your reactions such genuine lovely people.

Just ask for a Robert Plant tribute Jimmy Page. It’s heart warming. He mentions Achilles Last Stand in it.
Hi guys. This song is absolute 🔥🔥🔥. It is their heaviest song and fastest song IMO. This entire album, presence, you would love!!
Live version at Knebworth in 1979! I was there.
Definitely their hardest ground pounding song. Bonzo just completely going all out Gonzo on this drum smashing masterpiece. I can only imagine how John must have been after this stamina wrecker. Great reaction to this absolute shredder by the best!
the live will blow you away. as usual.. love the reaction
Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple the holy triad of rock music🤘
I'm pretty sure they were modern day wizards with magical powers.
I am always happy when I hear this song. I bought "Presence" when I was 15 - 1978. Achilles last stand was always giving me the feeling to continou, to start new things, to be brave, feeling free. Love is when you let your loved ones develop - so for me this beautiful song is about love for mankind
This will make all those who mention this every time. Now do live Knebworth 79
The guitar is great live also
The flamenco influence if you pay close attention, is in some passages of the guitar solo, of course flamenco is done with acoustic guitar and here is electric, the other flamenco part is the drums brakes that on first impression sound like machine gun rapid fire is really Bonham emulating a flamenco dancer furios and sophisticated feet tapping on the wood floor, great reaction guys, top shelf composition by Zeppelin!
A friend of mine has One of the Objects. I was able to hold it and take a photo with it. OMG!!
❤❤❤Robert ❤❤❤
NEXT LEVEL stuff.
one of the best guitar intros of all time imo
It's like the Orcs soundtrack or something, if you hear the opening, it's too late to run.
I've been waiting thee whole time for you guys to do this one. You're so right tho, you need to listen to it more than once to get it all in. The live version knebwerth 1979 is awesome too!!
Achilles is driving his chariot though the hordes of enemies great reaction
That's called lead drums 🥁 🪘 👌 he was faster than any guitar 🎸 😜 jpj holding his corner of the whole riff ❤ I told my parents in the early 70s Led zeppelin is the best band ever 😂😂❤❤ they never told me to turn it down 😂❤❤❤
This song has so many ideas it would have made an entire album for some bands.
You see the live version of this from Knebworth in 1979, it's epic!
They never disappoint, good choice!
Jazz fusion influences here. I’m hearing Mahavishnu Orchestra (John McLaughlin), and Tony Williams’ Lifetime.
Live in Knebworth is FIRE 🔥
Great Song one of my favs! Musically Genius! Thanks for Reaction 😅

Yay! Just now listening?! It's past time!!
Studio is best.
Nice one guys, been waiting on this one 😊
This masterpiece is definitely the perfect song for Bonham & Page. My understanding is Page played 12 overdubs on this song, yet pulls it off so great live. Wait till you get to Hot's on for Nowhere and Tea for One!
Great song. Great album. And as always, a great reaction. Next song, same album, Tea For One.
I really think that you should do a marathon reaction of the whole album.
You will not be disappointed.
Just as good live-give it a listen
"Galloping Bass" JPJ
Bonham was the keystone guys, when he passed, so did Zeppelin 😢
hello from new jersey
Love you guys. Keep up the great work. Best wishes for your family and a prosperous year
👍👍
That black obelisk on the table is your Internet wireless modem from AT&T.......
The title was a bit tongue in cheek as Robert recorded the vocals from a wheelchair after his car accident on a family holiday in Greece.
If you want to hear Jon Bonham go crazy on drums listen/watch their " Moby Dick " live 1970 at the Royal Albert Hall its mind blowing
"The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth.."
Take a REALLY deep dive..."Tea for One" from this album...incredible
Peace
If you haven't already check out the live version of Moby Dick. One amazing drum solo.
Check this out live at Knebworth 79!!
hopefully you will also review these led zep songs: thank you, nobody's fault but mine, fool in the rain, celebration day, immigrant song, down by the seaside
I call it " Pages bolero!"
Zep at their absolute best
This is the best song ever made about tax evasion! Watch it live at Knebworth in 1979
Led Zeppelin underrated? They're probably rated in the top three bands of all time
You should maybe go back 10 or 15 seconds after each pause.
Great reaction guys! 👍❤️
Anybody interested; i bought “the object” sitting on table of album cover on line about 4 yrs ago. Somebody was making them with 3D printer. Its awesome and a must have unique piece of curiosity🤘❤️
@@Brandi6666 When Zep did the 02 arena reunion show, they had the object show up as part of the light show during Kashmir
