Good work man. The uav tech has come along way, and as much as people might want to say it's not "there" yet. No matter what we will always need some ingenuity in the field to be successful in this industry. Good on ya mate from down here in Australia, we need some rock equipment down here hit me up if you need a pilot to promote and fly it down here. Also when do you plan to hit this market?
I know the feeling of having to repair expensive equipment. I used to be a crawler operator for a company that did sewer inspections. Basically, I would send a remote controlled crawler into the sewers and use cameras and lasers to inspect the sewer pipes. The crawler alone was $75,000 and that didn't include the cameras or any attatchments. You can imagine the harsh and nasty environment that the crawler would be in and we would have to do our own repairs. Our truck was half mobile studio and half workshop. We had a large box truck just for that little crawler because of all the parts and tools we had to carry. I feel your pain.
wow. great video! very exciting to see education, experience, enthusiasm and drones shooting lasers! Can't get enough! I want to learn as much as I possibly can and find a way into this.
Also, what kind of accuracy do you get with your Riegl LiDAR? I noticed you mentioned the DJI got about 15 cm, which wouldn't be good enough for my municipal projects, but I imagine you get more like 1-5cm on the Riegl?
@@IndianaDrones wow. That is insane accuracy for a full lidar point cloud. Seems like you wouldnt even need ground shots except possibly for control. Just plug it into navisworks and import to civil 3d. Seems super powerful! I'm a civil engineer for the city of kelso, wa. I do the drafting and design. I'm finishing up the plans for the new park improvements but future projects will mostly be roadway improvements and maintenance.
That's a solid job! Well, we still need GCP and a base station collecting static measurements over control. But yeah, it's real good! The job in this video was a corridor survey for a municipality in the Midwest! They were blown away with how much detail these systems pick up.
@@IndianaDrones That's incredible! I hope someday I can employ this technology in my projects! Would be really nice to have a point cloud to work with instead of a traditional survey.
Wow, awesome story! Thanks for sharing. This was very impressive that you fixed this on the go like this. So you had to actually replace the motherboard and all of it's components?
@@IndianaDrones thats great! Would of been horrible to have anything worse go wrong on site. Especially if you dont live in the area. Geeze. Good luck on your future projects. Look forward to more videos
Definitely. But the manufacturer is really nice and is willing to work with you to get everything working. Unfortunately with everything going on in the world right now it took a couple days to get help and I had to finish the job first
Great question. There are pros and cons to each LiDAR integrator. I'm not endorsing any one manufacturers solution and hope to just share my experiences and let the audience make up their decision. I am happy to chat Harrison@theindianadrones.com
Comments on the RIEGL build quality 😁. I was in Horn Austria in 2014 and was lucky enough to get a tour of the RIEGL manufacturing and calibration labs. The whole place oozes quality and attention to detail!
"It's totally broken, but I found a way to fix it." Really? No details at all? And taking the cover off does _not_ qualify as a "teardown". Why did I watch this?
I also enjoy how you explain things in a way that does not scare the people away
Sir, what was the malfunction? I got you added jumper but what caused the problem

Why did you buy the LidarSwiss solution and not the Phoenix Aerial?

Your exactly right. Usually 2-3 cm accuracy on that reigl!
What kind of municipal projects are you working on

I just was able to find the power switch ports on this tiny computer and trip it to booting. Easy fix, once I diagnosed the problem

what brand and model of imu is used?
i think you need to solder some push button switch instead of two dangling wire
awesome job 👍

@@IndianaDrones What made you go with LidarSwiss? We've been looking at MicroDrones and SenseFly. Ideally with a dual payload RGB and LiDAR.

Quantum entanglement.....? Thanks for the cliffhanger. Nice vids!
Thanks for watching!

Bruh 😎
you are a physicist?
I know, I made a series of bad decisions in college.... Became a huge nerd 🤣
@@IndianaDrones but, you gone to any university?
You shoot clickbait videos. You mean you broke the lidar for 180k and didn't get upset? It's clearly not worth 180k
You have an unfair advantage 😩
What do you mean???
@@guillelavia934 Just a joke. Nothing serious.
