Life long indy supporter, white, Scottish atheist here and I was very happy to have Humza as our First Minister. Was sorry to see him go but happy to hear he plans to continue to advocate for independence and a more tolerant society. I respect the human rights of all people. Minority rights, be it religious, gender, sexuality, race are human rights.

As a Scottish Independence supporter I have nothing but contempt for such an amateur narrow minded individual as Humza. His ego has been a disaster for the cause and his unwillingness to collaborate with the Greens shows his schoolboy political outlook.Regardless the Indy dream is dead for a generation with the obvious collapse of the SNP.

@@minifuzz5 "amateur narrow minded individual" you can apply that to most of Scotland's MSP's ... there isn't one who inspires great respect (happy to hear some suggestions otherwise) ... you have to go as far back as John Smith for an ego that didn't overshadow civil service. They're all narrow minded, uneducated and self interested as far as I can see.

He seems to recognize the rhetorical games but also the way that obscene wealth empowers fascism, and I think more explicitly anti-fascist political figures would be a boon.
I really appreciate his unwavering stance on the rights of marginalized people, especially his commitment to transgender people even after the political price his party paid. People who say that the anti-trans stuff is just a distraction from other right-wing policies are wrong, just like those who said that Nazi antisemitism was just a distraction from their economic goals were wrong.

I’m speaking of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Syria, Iraq and MORE. be the change you need in the countries your roots are and this is my personal opinion. These are third world countries for a reason. Be the change you needed where your roots are. If you married a Scot then yes your roots are partially in Scot now because your children will maybe grow their roots there. This is my personal opinion. I see it as a waste to contribute to a country that I am told I am not even of them, trying to even convince otherwise feels redundant because change starts at home.

The Muslims in high level political jobs, should not see policies as black or white, but work in gray areas! Because as Muslims in first position if you can bring 1% change toward Muslims policies, is a big effort ! After elected , and resigning is not helpful ! Hope there are other Muslims politican s who are more realistic, given a chance, making some effort is more helpful to Muslims communities and interacting with other communities , are needs of the time !

Why would the uk want Muslim politicians whose main issue is moving the country on Muslim issues. Start of religious factional politics which always ends badly.
