What's always amazing is seeing Mike's sweat equity going into his projects, he isn't just writing the checks ,he's working his butt off, not to mention all the work done planning it all out.
To me at least, what’s standing out in this project, is the attention to detail and the consideration of the interrelationships of the various elements, for longevity, ease of maintenance and repair. What I appreciate most about your video’s, is your obvious multi dimensional thinking / looking through the layers of the onion.
I've heard that you learn so much building a house that the first thing you want to do when your finish is start over. You can tell Mike has done stuff like this more than a few times.
6:36 "actually very simple and very redundant"... I'd expect nothing less from a Mike Patey build! Your attention to detail on all aspects of your house is amazing Mike, you're building a place that generations of your family can be proud of.
Content is great as usual. Whoever is editing these videos deserves serious credit as well. They appear to have Mike's same attention to detail. Keep up the great work.
Such a shame you didn’t do a daily or bi-weekly vlog style of this entire build. I would have watched every single episode! Amazing work as ever Mike, I am always just left speechless at your level of engineering. Thanks so much for sharing!
It's quite a fail if you start taking in the energy wastage. He could've spent money on integrating solar water heaters+ geothermal+ heat pump also photovoltaic for electricity if space permits, air trap barrier to stop water body heat loss, rain water harvesting etc etc
Its been over a month since the last video. Your making me go into withdrawal. I have started rewatching old videos. Oh.. I see, that's the idea. The innovation still inspires me. Thanks.
Mike, would you ever walk through some of the other details of the house? Air sealing in the main house, insulation details, HVAC/ERV/HRV/Ducting details, electrical in the house, High or low voltage, window details. I'm a geek for custom home build details. Love your plumbing/hot water walk through. It's more commercial than residential and I think that should be the way to go. Too many residential builds are done so cheaply.
Even if your skimmer cage doesn’t get filled very often, always good to get the organic material out sooner rather than later. Less decomposition. Looks amazing!
This channel is a master class in extreme over-engineering! My grandfather always said "anything worth doing is worth over-doing". I am a bit shocked that the sidewalks and steps were not built to be exactly 5 paver across to eliminate the cuts... I'm sure there was a reason that we don't know about, but having one cut paver would drive me insane.
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I would have expected him to center the middle paver and make the layout symmetrical, but then I noticed that he made the 2 sets of stairs mirrored and my ocd calmed down a tick. 😂
There's very few channels that I've wanted more content from and this is that channel. I'm so vested in YOUR home build its as if I'm watching you build a house that I'm moving into haha. Awesome work Mike, you sir are extremely knowledgeable in many areas. I've learned quite a bit off your videos, especially this house build. If I ever build my own house I'll definitely apply things I've learned from this, to that process
You are amazing, all of these intricate systems that you've integrated into your home! I really like the colorization of the items and areas when you are describing them to us.
Wow, just wow! Engineering masterpiece informed by extensive practical experience with flawless execution. All this can be summed up with one word: PASSION! Thank you for sharing your passion with us, be it planes or dream house.
Mike, you got 2 up on me this time. Very well done. The instant (almost) hot water everywhere is great and having hot water at every cold outside tap, a great idea. I didnt predict either of those necesities. Thanks for the inspiration.
It has been a blast watching this project the last year. Mike, could you please make a video of the costs to maintain this amazing pool and the ROIC with the engineering tricks you've used to help save on these maintenance costs. Thanks for taking the time and effort to record and edit these videos.
Every episode of this channel blows me away with the creative ways that Mike is able to over-engineer everything he sets his mind and hands to...and I seriously want to go diving in that pool. :)
I like the idea of the hot water taps outside. In my neck of the woods we have heated driveways when it snows. I always told my dad that if he repaved his driveway he should bury some Pex tubing in it so he has the option to heat it in the future. I plan to do the same when I build my house. I'm cheap, so I probably wouldn't even have a boiler hooked up to it at first, but in my dad's case, he lives at a lower elevation in Denver, and it only snows like 5 days a year. A warm water tap would work just fine. No need to shovel, just wait for a sunny day above freezing and wash all the snow away.
You and your family certainly are hard workers. That pool piping system is way beyond my technical abilities to understand what, why or how it works. I guess these videos are a few months in arrears now. That house is just mind boggling. The amount of back ups you’ve built into this house is what should be expected from someone who is into aviation and there’s no room for error. I can’t wait for the time when this house is totally completed and hopefully we get a look n’ see the whole home. The build is way above and beyond anything I’ve ever seen. Back to work.👍👍🇨🇦
as well as everything else in this build... that hot water system is the best of the best of the best. and the way it's been designed.... it's perfect.
Wow. Wow wow wow... The amount of thought put into heating and plumbing design. Beautiful! Mike is involved in EVERY detail. And all his family. Not just signing the cheques....
Amazingly engineered and constructed 20 million dollar plus Patey mansion. Absolutely beautiful and solid quality, unmatched unless Mike builds it! Thank You for sharing the creative journey. "Now, let's get back to building amazing AIRPLANES!"
Your attention to redundancy Mike is amazing - hard to see you can have forgotten anything remotely critical! The entire system is outstanding and pipework is a work of art.
Anybody else just feel like such a lazy failure watching Mikes videos? Like I’m 35, homes paid for and my family wants for nothing and still, I watch him and think “man I’m such a piece of shit I’ve gotta step it up” 😂
I hear you. But no I don't feel like I was lazy or anything, however if you include heavy d/sparks and I raise you one Cleetus McFarland then yes I would say I just don't know where all my time has gone or where I failed to utilize my life in more of a productive and positive way to accomplish more.

I am continuing to take notes off your house build for my future house build. It may not be as extravagant as yours, but little things that I have learned by watching your house build video series will be incorporated into the final design. Back to work! 🙂
Hope you are doing well, Mike! Missing seeing the videos! Hope your back is recovering okay from that motorcycle accident. Just know you and your family are in my prayers. Can’t wait to see a tour video of the house and looking forward to your next airplane build!
Once the build is done we want a break down and cost sheet and an explanation how one man can manage to contain all this knowledge and time to actually build this! I just assume Mike just work 100 hours week since he left school and never done anything less. Such insane knowledge and capacity in one man!
Just came across Mike's channel. So far I've seen three videos of this pool and house build and the plane. Man, what doesn't he do? AND has 11K hours flying. WHAT A DUDE!
I love how you think things through before jumping into any project! Maintaining things is always necessary, so making that maintenance accessible is important. Elimination of potential issues ahead of time, saves a lot of headache down the road! My 93 Polaris snowmobile is just one example. Had to replace the recoil rope & the bottom bolt on the housing that had to be removed to access it, was inaccessible behind the frame. 😑😑😑😖 Also, most abandoned aquariums I’ve seen, have large amounts of calcium built up on the glass & simply got to be too much for most to keep on top of, getting out of hand, then that investment, simply abandoned. 😔
What's always amazing is seeing Mike's sweat equity going into his projects, he isn't just writing the checks ,he's working his butt off, not to mention all the work done planning it all out.
If you want it done right , you have to do it yourself. Most of the time...

Mike Patey the king of overbuilt.
If you are going through the trouble of building it. Might as well over build it.
And built it right from the beginning so the future maintenance and chance of problems down the road is minimized.
