    Time for the conclusion to Warren and Andy's epic game of Bolt Action with Alessio playing rules master! Will Warren's lovely little STUG III get blown to bits or will German engineering hold up against the crack shots of the American army?

    Give that German NCO that stormed the American Lieutenant an Iron Cross! Same with the sniper team. Absolutely amazing game. There was constant tension and chock full of movie moments. I can see how the adrenaline would start pumping at every moment.

    Warren, it was an interesting way to pass a Saturday evening and since there was nothing on television, gave me the grounding I was looking for as I fully intend moving over from GW to Bolt Action in very near future.
    Thanks guys for an interesting evening.

    Love the way this works. No "I go/You go", no crazy overpowered units or characters and broken special rules. Warlord is now my favorite mini strategy gaming company. Just ordered the Normandy starter set and a few other tanks and vehicles tonight. :))

    They have those devices, but still have to guess range. Their devices don't have fancy lasers, they have drawn on reticules that help estimate distance. So just like the soldier using his binos, you have to look at the board and estimate the distance.

    I'm really surprised that I never got into tabletop war gaming. When I was younger, about 8 or so and I had no idea what wargaming was, I would get bags of those green plastic army men. When I would be playing, I would try to make rules for how to play with them because it seemed like it would be more fun.

    Played a game with a fellow FoW player in my club; he said this game would be the down time break game when he is burned out of Flames; I beat him 7-1 and it was fun. Then I went home and the next day saw this video (Part #1 and #2), and was sold on the Normandy Box. Found out two buddies have Bolt Action one with both US and Germans and another building Brits; they are encouraging me to build Japanese....Im sold on this game as it has a flavor that resembles Band of Brothers and Combat TV

    Looks lie a fun game, the Germans could use a better tactician however, one that does not run the Stug immediately into the range of both things that can kill it and one that patiently mowes down American infantry as they come out of cover and concentrates on one Schwerpunkt instead of wasting effort all over the place. However this is a very nice presentation of the Bolt Action games, looks like a lot of fun but also simple to learn and hard to master.

    I am not sure how I feel about the target selecting who dies in a LOS game, otherwise it looked fun. I think Warren made a few mistakes, like forgetting to shoot the Sniper turn 2, shoot his officers turn 3, taking the panzerfaust shot on a 6, and I think he should have wiped out the heavy pinned squad via shooting to give him a dice advantage of 4 vs 3 instead of the poor chance of getting the Sherman.

    I played a demo of this and the gents giving the demo gave me a box of 30 US Infantry. the box is not specifically Bolt Action but they are the same exact scale and I was told that the models do not have to be specifically Bolt Action Models as long as they are the same scale. so looking at the box, it comes with sniper rifles, SMGs Carbines, M1Garands, and many other weapons. I borrowed my store's rule book (with permission) and looked up the US Infantry, but I saw no options for carbines in a standard infantry squad, is there a rule or way to bring them? and what benefit do they provide over the standard rifle?

    • @digeraticular

    Thanks for the great game! Best bolt action batrep on YT right now :)
    I got a rules question: didn't you say that when you give a unit the order to go down, it passes automatically (and thus lose a pin marker)? If that is the case, for severely pinned squads, ordering to go down may be better than trying a rally order. With rally, you MAY lose D6+1 pin markers, but none if you fail the morale check. With a go to ground order, you just always lose one pin, is that correct? So when you gamble on reducing pin markers in the current turn and then act decisively in the next turn with the unit, going down now may be better sometimes?
    Another question: do pin markers always reduce chance to hit? So a unit firing with one pin marker is always at -1 to hit, regardless of other modifiers?

    • @eLdritchZ
      @eLdritchZ 9 років тому

      Rally is more of a hail mary action... it can win you the game, it can be worse than going down ;)
      yes pin markers always incur -1 to hit.

    • @maineqat
      @maineqat 9 років тому

      boycot gugle You only lose a pin marker if you take an order test and pass it. "Down" is automatic and does not require an order test, thus no test is passed, so you do not lose a pin marker. This is spelled out specifically in "Pinned and Down" on p22.
      However, if a unit chooses to retain it's Down order at the end of the turn rather than returning the die to the cup, it then loses 1 pin marker.

    If you have multiple pin markers on one unit and it fails a command test (fails the order and forced to go to ground). Does the same amount of pin markers remain on that unit, on the next round? Or are pin markers only used up when you pass a command test?
    If a unit has a lot of pin markers can it be be almost impossible for them to pass a command test and therefore out for the rest of the game?

      +Jake Dyson Like most things, it depends on where you are. I have seen quite a few people talk about Bolt Action on the internet, but I only know people who play Flames of War. So here (near Edmonton, so likely no where near where you are) I would say Flames of War. That being said, looking at it, it is probably easier to pick up and put together two sides of Bolt Action quickly so that you could get people to play with your two armies, which, after watching this, is something I am considering.
