Oh my!! What a classy and well spoken individual. Robert Brown……you have made my day! Robert H you have facilitated a wonderful conversation and brought significant insight into Bearing amplifiers! Kudos to both of you!
Thoroughly enjoyed this discussion. I own two Zotl amps from LINEAR TUBE AMPLIFIER. I’m captivated by the sound of my Z40 integrated and z10. Bravo on this interview and I look forward to the review.
Thank you for this wonderful discussion, Rick and Robert! I heard this Berning SET amplifier driving Avantgarde Trio G3s, and it was sonic magic! With warmest regards, Ron Resnick
Meet David years ago at his home in MD when I lived in NOVA. Repaired my Berning amp and adjusted my preamp. Very hospitable guy! What a day that was for my wife and I to meet him. I remember his large 3 panel fold Maggie that took over his modest living area and home. It’s just too bad everyone got in for a piece of the David Berning’s genius, I.e., products. Prices now have become unattainable, more than some exotic cars prices and beachfront homes in the U.S. I haven’t seen David for some years but I hope the guy riding up on his bicycle from work to meet us at his home is still somewhere in those products along with his diy perspective. He needed a partner, not sure about that comment? If you are reading this David, all the best to you sir and thank you for your consideration years ago.
Harvey “Gizmo” Rosenberg’s decades old articles made me very aware of Berning’s designs.. So I’m glad to see these Statement SET amps being formally reviewed..
Nothing sounds better than SET Class A amplifier + high efficiency speakers ( my Choice Lamm ML3 Signature SET 32W Pure Class A amplifier :) ……..great video.
sounds like the knowledge that AudioNote has, regarding some of the important aspects of the quality of the chokes and transformers. I have a preamplifier/HPA using the ZOTL circuit and it sounds lovely and the tubes are biased conservatively by David Berning which lends to long tube life.
The original Berning was truly something special, sadly my Air Tight 211's wouldn't cover the cost of one the choke's. I now realize I can't live without these beauties, so I will strap an Air Tight to each of my legs and make my final decent off the Coronado Bay Bridge...farewell my fellow audiophiles!
That's awesome I also had the infamous "amp killers" driven by Krell KMA100'S / KSA50 bi-amp set up. Although long gone, I'm still lucky enough to own a DR3, which is still a terrific amp...thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Good morning Gentlemen. I believe preamps and amps have more of a signature in the final system sound than almost anything else in the system. Great video 👍👍
I own three original Julius Futterman OTL amps: a 1964 Harvard Music stereo amp with 6HB5 output tubes; a 1975 H3aa mono pair with 6LF6 output tubes. The Harvard amp has a pair of chassis-mounted Altec autoformers because the original owner used the amp to drive parallel pairs of speakers. I consider the original Futterman's the Holy Grail of tube amps!
If you have to ask... Hi Fi One SET Reference 20w ZOTL. 4-chassis with external Ypsilon manufactured silver wire wound 45-pound chokes and Arya RevOPod feet. $220,000 pr
Lovely video, but seriously Tom Martin sounds to me imho like an undertaker selling me a coffin , with the emotional intelligence of a dead fish, please take him off the air, he ruins this video imho ( I am sure he is a lovely guy)
Holy crap these two know their shit. What a fantastic conversation.

What an incredibly knowledgeable discussion and happy to hear that David Berning is back.

What a wonderful discussion Robert. I'd love to see you bring back Rick Brown. I find him to be very engaging and knowledgeable.
Rick Brown is a good spokesman.
such poise, you can tell he’s been doing this *awhile*
Excellent conversation!! 😎
Very engaging and informative. I’m an outsider to this Hi-Fi world and it still pulled me in.
Thank you for this wonderful discussion, Rick and Robert!

Great conversation, gentlemen! Very interesting. More people need to hear David Berning's masterful and innovative work!

Dang, drooling!
If I win the lottery [LOL] going to track him down to create an all-Cali system.
Thanks for taking Hi-Fi higher.
And I was thinking the very same as you. much luck my friend1

The passion of this guy is infectious.

George Kaye continued Gonzo's work.
These speakers are too good to be on your channel and/or in your magazine.
Rickys revenue is pathetic!
You get-around all the transformer problems by going solid state. Cheaper and better.
