- A man living in Coronado is suing the San Diego Unified Port District over what he claims is a misuse of public lands at the Coronado Golf Course.
“It’s used all the time. It’s a great asset for not just Coronado but the entire community,” said plaintiff Matthew Herron, who lives near the golf course.
Coronado leases the property from the San Diego Unified Port District, an agreement dating back to the 60’s, and the city doesn't pay any rent for it. According to Herron, he says the city has been in violation of their lease terms by allowing the private restaurant and wedding venue, Feast and Fareway, to operate on the property for more than 5 years.

The fellows got a point. If its a designated public area, how can you have private events that financially benefit private business?
Cause the courts are there for the rich.
It could use a few taco trucks and churro venders . The weddings and stuff HAVE TO GO ! greedy people are getting rich . MAKE SNACK BARS GREAT AGAIN ! Should only be a snack bar on the golf course .
The port is making money and they're scrambling for an excuse.😂
Officially as of now they’re excuses we’ve been ripping off every person in the city because we kicked her out of the restaurant
He's actually got a very good point.
Cool! Public property! So any of us can go check out that beach, right? 😻
Correct
Yeeee,,,but Parts of it are closed off due to sewage contamination from tijuana any way lol & even sometimes socal beaches all the way up to LaJolla have the same sewage issues even tho they way farther away.....Google has more info but ya!
I’m gonna go have a nice fancy meal and when the check comes I’m gonna tell them that food was public property and I am a taxpayer of that property
@@davidOConnor-z3l Enjoy your ''nice fancy meal'' on a golf course whose beach is closed weekly due to Tijuana sewage contamination!!! LOL, so fancy! So edgy! Imagine thinking just coz it's Coronado it's ''fancy'' when we have the whole entire melting pot of SAN DIEGO!!!!!
@@davidOConnor-z3l Homie really admitting on social media that he about to go commit a crime coz a place is committing one lol....
Since it's Public Land, let's hold a Public Event and have supporters show up and enjoy this public land that is for free use to the public. The Public should start enjoying THEIR PUBLIC LAND. This is great news to find this out finally. Thank the guy for filing the suit so the rest of us can go an enjoy PUBLIC LAND.
@@sallyvella7012 Hey let's do one better and create a homeless shelter there. Instead of buying asbestos infested piles of rubble in questionable and extremely out of the way locations, let's just use public land we already own.
@@ArtOg-pt4jm Yes, let's get them indoors instead outside robbing and yelling at people and doing drugs in front of kids shopping. That is brilliant, thank you.
They said at the beginning the property is owned by the Port and loaned out to the city..
Why is everyone blaming “Karen” for this?! I wish I had the power to file lawsuits in the name of public recreation. Public recreation should be for everyone.
86 me? Hold up! I don’t think so. Let me ask my husband. 😂. But for real any profits made at the restaurant should be paid back to the public. That’s messed up!
The people here are not getting that point they think it’s a private restaurant that can do anything they want to customers
The city competing with private with private business's using publicly owned land, rotten to the core
Prob a relative given the contract...
Make them operate with no profit according to the law.
His wife must have been an irredeemable troublemaker of the most intoxicated sort to get tossed out of that place.
Really, you would have to repeatedly have many bites at that “bad behavior” apple to get a lifetime ban.
Some locals need to fill us in on the story.
They should have interviewed the wife.
If it's land for public use but ONLY for golf that's the bullshit.
Anyone should be able to use it.
Not just stupid arrogant self centered entitled assholes
the dispute was over the manager of a restraunt on public land gate keeeping the place for private events not her BEHAVIOR other then her telling the manager off.
@@dkinney8046
If what you said were true, and I don’t believe that it is, then why NOT go back?
Make them trespass you, and use that to get rid of the manager that way, who probably isn’t even still there.
The husband is a connected attorney. That would be a slam dunk!
No, I think she was a huge problem, but I’d love to hear from some locals that witnessed her outbursts.
@@GasPipeJimmy my bad you seem to have knowledge of a crystal ball .. i just googled the fucker and theres a bunch of info including a police report. Since you just calked me a liar , choke on your next meal
The wife isn't the story here. It's the illegal profiting...
These disputes are common in Coronado because the land is not to be used for profit. People buy real estate or homes there believing that the property values will go up only to find it's illegal in Coronado. I'm glad people are challenging the golf course.
So property values don't increase in Coronado?
Strange! The average price for a home sold in Coronado went from $1.3 million in 2017 to $2.1 million in 2023.
They got him and now it’s his turn to get them
They were thinking they were a private restaurant on private property
I would say it's probably best not used as a private venue in a public park. Maybe they have a venue but the restaurant needs to be open during regular hours. If it's a city park that's being used for private money making...that's an issue
86ing his wife was a big mistake. If your a business and not operating above board, don't piss off a regular customer. This situation stinks of corruption.

@@Look_What_You_Didalways glad to know grammar nazis are still around
She probably got 86d for being a Karen. So like typical Karens they are bullying the restaurant in retaliation.
Eff the golf course!! It’s public land.
This happens a lot and everywhere in the country. When a city, county, or state leases, inherits, or is willed a property with terms they will often break those terms. Then when confronted they just have a court remove the terms .
His motives are pathetic, but he's right. That restaurant has to go.
There's so much of this kind of thing in San Diego, not just Coronado. The hotels act like they own beachfront regardless of the high tide line and pay people try to illegally harass you off of it so they can resell public land access to their patrons.
Everyone is making a lot of assumptions about the wife. This has nothing to do with her especially if you care how your tax dollars are spent and controlled. Stay focused is in order.
Whole lot of ignorance in these comments.
I don't play golf, why should I pay taxes for it!
I don't have kids in school. Why should I pay school taxes?
Aside from the issue in this report.. that course looks awesome! I had no idea there's a public course there. Probably expensive & hard to get a tee time? Lemme know if anyone wants
It’s a members only club your tax dollars are secondary
@@davidOConnor-z3l No it isn't a members only club that's why there is a whole azz news reporting & lawsuit for misuse of public land homie! Cut it out lol all bla bla bla wit you...Get an actual clue!
@@davidOConnor-z3l No it's not. It is a public course but yes, hard to get tee times.
@@davidOConnor-z3l It is not members only. I live in another state and have played it several times. It is one of the more affordable courses in CA.
Corruption knows no end
This guy is a miserable Karen
I don't know about "miserable"....he lives comfortably in a nice home that he probably paid off over a decade ago and probably has a boatload of money that he doesn't mind spending on a high-priced lawyer to shame the golf course and the municipality into complying with the terms and conditions of the lease.
A Golf course serving the whole community... that's never the case...
Anybody in the community can play if they want or visit the restaurant. Same goes for the public beaches, tennis courts, soccer fields or aquatic center.
Good job looking out.
Nah, he's only "looking out" because his wife was being a Karen and got banned.
I’m glad they are looking into this. I’m betting an investigation turns up some interesting information!! Don’t hold your breath on comments from anyone!!
That public park is just begging for a flash mob coming to share the public space during those private events.
I think we have far more important issues to deal with in todays world. Lets fix about a jillion other issues before we try to screw up something that provides so much entertainment and fun for so many,.
Go put your time and money into something of value rather than just irritating people that are trying to enjoy the world we live in.
Ah retaliation at its finest. When you screw with a customer and they dig up dirt you hoped wouldnt be found 😂
Follow the money, bet it goes back to city officials private bank accounts.
“Alec, I’ll take what if both sides suck for $500”
So everything was fine until his wife got banned 🤣
we 1000' s of people to show up and enjoy the park and beach on same day.
Golfers should always be give top priority. Restaurant venues are available all around the county, so they can go elsewhere.
And what about the closing of restaurant for private parties?
First world problems
He’s married to a Karen and now he’s suing because he’s rich and bored.
@@jillionairess God bless the rich and bored.
MYOB!
Cities and counties do this all the time... Insiders who get bribed by the business owners to give info and favorable lease terms...These owners grease a lot of palms to win those concession businesses..
Where I used to live, University Place, Washington, the city built a nice park and public golf course using our tax dollars. Every year the temporary fence company puts up fences to keep the public out of the park so the city can hold a golf tournament. I guess you have to keep the peons away from the golf set. That means our park is closed to us for over a month. Its a cash cow for the city.
This goes on all the time. Same in my neck of the woods, 1950s public course, city land with a restaurant and event venue. Every once in a while the profit biz venture issues arise, then dies down.....can the leasse /lessor make a profit etc......public park supports itself/take in enough to run itself, etc.... He must be a bored attorney needing something to do, and his battleax, I meant, betterhalf found a nice little legal misfit to chew on. There are a million of these, if you are 78, comfortable, and still sharp, you can chew on these till the curtains close.
Leases like this are common. The city makes money on the lease. The business is for profit and open to the public. If you want to have a private party there you can. If the city ran the restaurant, they would lose money because everyone working there would have to be a city employee with a pension.
Dude’s wife gets tossed from the restaurant (not easy to do) and now he has a big issue? You only want a hot dog stand guy? Place is nice/good for the course.
The point is that’s not a private restaurant and that’s not private property what don’t you understand about that
Good job. Hold EVERYONE accountable.
Wow a frivolous lawsuit that has merit, who would’ve thunk ?😵💫🤣
If its public land for a park get a few thousand people to enjoy it like a park.
See what they do
Great no way faahhrrr of from of it a prime golf course ,,beqource of the water view??? 😮😮😅😅
Could you imagine your biggest problem in life is your golf course neighbor will not let your overprivileged wife on the property because she abused wait staff the last time she was there.
Yeah, I think the guy's just butthurt and salty.
You know this, how?
Imagine judging people you don't know from a mere 2.5 minute media clip while by default defending the states actions. It takes a lot of Stockholm syndrome to defend the state.
I mean if he has a case he has a case. For whatever reason.

How many times have you been kicked out of bars with a lifetime ban.
I never have.

No gov agencies can own public land. We The People are Grantors and own that land, state agencies are merely trustees and We again are the beneficiaries. Its a trust structure plain and simple. And trustees dont own a thing.
Rent free? I’m guessing a local politician may be involved :)
Unlikely.
That dudes the definition of a male karen. Everyone loves that area
Audit the Port, open the books and post it. They view the entire San Digo coastal region as their own private 400-billion-dollar enterprise with little accountability and no oversite Maybe it's past the time to disband this organization
Thank you that’s the big picture not some woman been kicked out of a restaurant you notice the news tries to bring that angle in to distract you from the real big rip off
Wait I see two wrongs here. 1 is the obvious using public land for money like the lawsuit claims. But the people suing as well. It wasn’t a problem until his wife got booted for probably being a drunken Karen. That’s some low life shit. You had no problem knowing the city was doing something illegal but now it’s an issue. Wow, people occasionally have weddings there.
They do in public parks too.
What’s your point other than the fact that you are friends with the abusive wife.
You are to small minded to see what's really going on....?
So a head Karin at fault figures
No, illegal profiting by the port is at fault.
By mid century this will all be underwater.
Wow, your wife has to be removed from an establishment and your response instead of dealing with that is to remove the building? And you put yourself on TV?
The point is you’re being ripped off of your public land you idiot
😂 zero self awareness
The irony is that the misuse of public land is the golf course itself. This should be a public park open to everybody for having a picnic, flying a kite, playing frisbee, running, and everything else people enjoy doing at public parks. Not just a single game that only few people get to play on.
There’s always two sides to every story. I wonder what privileged Karen’s part in this was?
She was probably a drunken, abusive twat towards the staff.
Locally, her drinking is, shall we say, “notorious”.
Self admitted revenge tactic is his standing. Being banned from public property or accusations his wife is an alcoholic, post menopausal childless cat lady, was too much to deal with I gather . ShayDee V said those are always trouble makers.
So everything was fine until they got themselves thrown out and now it's a problem? What an asshole!
Your wife was most likely in the wrong to get banned in the first place, probably an obnoxious mess of a personality to get to that point. Now he’s finally found some way to get back and be the neighborhood curmudgeon. Let it go, buddy.
Why let it go. It's illegal what they're doing. Woud you be allowed to do it? I think not
Your comment is moot and your brain is fried.
So let a private company allowed to operate outside of the lines on public property? I’m for this type of citizenry, who cares about the grudge.
So let me get this straight…. When the restaurant opens you frequent it. However, when you make a scene and the manager asks you not to come back you make it your mission to destroy what’s good for the community way to go👍
The only thing you need to get straight is the fact that that’s not private property and that’s not a private restaurant and that’s not private staff if they’re operating on free land paid for by the taxpayer like you
@@davidOConnor-z3l Yeah, but the other fact it the one where the couple did not care about the restaurant operating where it shouldn't be,,,they kept on going until one day the lady got 86d for some drunk attitude or whatever towards them,,,lol,,,,then they decided to all the sudden sue the restaurant for being on property it doesn't belong on....All the sudden,,,,lol. Let me take a wild guess.....liberal?
California is ruining itself at breakneck speed. Don’t encourage them. A golf course is better than a cluster of urine-soaked tents.
