And that's why Kakashi had the mangekyou sharingan but never noticed until Itachi mentioned it's existence.

It's weird that almost all the violent and bloody scenes of the manga were more or less censored in the anime, but here they went all in with full violence and blood, and great animation, it notes a huge difference compared to the rest of the show, but at least this moment is memorable, I was waiting for their reaction ^^
With hindsight most of the bloody scenes getting cut helped establish just how dark this scene truly was. In established gory/bloody anime and shows you don’t get too shocked when slaughter like this happens, but in Naruto Obito’s rampage was such a step up it carried a massive shock value.
Its was censored becuase Its was live in tv thats why...
Even then, there was some censorship here. The final scene, iirc, the Mist Ninja's bodies are speared amongst the tree branches, which is why the blood is trickling into that pool.

this scene was not censored that much bcuz they knew most of the audience which were from tv ofcourse, have been watching Naruto since their childhood so by the time this episode releases, they would've been in their 20s
Kakashi passed out Because of the Sharingan's evolution to the Mangekyo, since he isn't an Uchiha. His body couldn't handle the change that happened when the eye progressed. Between that and the obvious mental trauma of the situation in general, it makes sense that he passed out.
I think he passed out because of all the stress of killing a comrade, one of the two best friends he had
@@filipgasic2642 activating mangekyo twice- as an adult- was enough to knock him out for what, a few weeks? and kid kakashi was already basically running on empty at that point, so I think it was mainly just his old nemesis chakra exhaustion

Normal Sharingan already requires the body of someone from the Uchiha clan to be used at its peak, the mangekyou then requires such great stress to be awakened that Kakashi couldn't stand it

In the manga the scene with the moon and roots it's a little bit more gruesome, there are a lot more bodies and ripped parts in the roots. Truly a painting panel, check it out.
Also, if i remember correctly the japanese voice version is way more scary than this english version.

Fun Fact: In the databooks, Guruguru/Swirly Zetsu's real name is "Tobi" and so that's how Obito ended up using the mask and embodying his persona (name, voice, behavior.) Obito was literally playing multiple different characters at the same time, which is is crazy to think about. Of course, the similarity with their names could be intentional by Kishimoto, but the zetsu was the source of his inspiration.
I back the theory that Swirly was the one talking when Obito was in his Tobi persona and another Zetsu was talking while in his Madara persona.

@@alexfielding7191 It's not Tobi Zetsu. It's just Obito mimicking Tobi's voice. Check the voice actor's it's both the voice for Obito's Tobi persona & Obito's real voice. So it's just Obito putting on a ridiculous voice.

He could interpret as many characters as many masks he used.....in the end, he´d end up discart them once their use come to an end.
he stated he was "nobody" because, Obito was dead to the world as a ninja and a person....but he was always aware of his role.
An schizophrenic is a complicated stated due to the individual no being aware of who he/she is until medication goes on.
Now it makes sense when you see Obito's arm dripping off in the fight with Danzo and his 2 bodygaurds, and then in the fight against Minato. It was Hashirama cells

This episode is literally perfect. One of the best episodes of any show i have seen and probably contender for the best one in shippuden. Obito and Kakashi both awakening their mangekyo’s at the same time still gives me goosebumps to this day

i hate when they do that. at least make a little pause section then or something inbetween if you really want to throw that in mid episode maybe with a little blooper segment or some shit like they do at the start. of a moment they had to pause when some1 had to leave the room. it makes the reaction seem so disingenuous.

They're training, narutos generation a lot of females are fighter but back then and even before Kakashi and Obito Era most females were medical ninjas (hence rin standing behind them) Which is why they were protected because all ninjas know if you can take out the medical ninja it increases your chance of success during a mission, if nobody's there to heal anyone they aren't as much of a threat and easier to kill.....that's why you'll never see a medical ninja on the front line and always see them with guards during mission unless you're like tsunade and mastered the mitonic generative healing jutsu

Kakashi only got the mangekyo because Obito was there and awakened it witnessing the scene. Because their eyes were connected. Kakashi is not an Uchiha, so he wouldn't be able to activate the MS anyway

I totally agree with you, it is one the best ED in Naruto, you can understand so much of his motivation through the ED.
This is old, but I watched this video expecting that. I'm trying to find in UA-cam a video reaction to this episode + ending, because it is the first time that this ending appear and the ending is like a continuation of the episode. The combination of both is a master piece. But it is sad that no one reacted to the ending after the episode, everyone cut it. I don't understand why.
Navi, it's already been established that medical ninja stay in the back lines to avoid danger and safely heal their teammates. And Rin is a medical ninja. It has nothing to do with her being female nor does it define her character writing. What she says literally after that moment is her character writing.
As many already pointed out, we do not see a lot of male medial ninjas and on top of that, it is an imaginary world, so why not make medical ninjas battle ninjas. Naruto do have objective problems, that does not distract from all the good shit. Females are hit and miss though.

@@blueblade6174 Chill dude, this is just a anime, and I am probably wrong about whole medical ninja numbers, but it still boils down to "Some females in Naruto just do nothing", and hand waving with some reason why they supposed to would sometimes work naturally, sometimes stick out, just like superhero pose in a movie sometimes works sometimes cringe. So it is natural to point it out. And it is a thing that would make story even more enjoyable for everyone. And Naruto is really uneven in this aspect.

@@blueblade6174 When people write x3 punctuation in written form, it does come off as not being chill, but again, sorry if I am wrong. And again, as I wrote, the original issue is an issue when it sticks out. Here, specifically, Ren did nothing but being a target, which is what Normies commented on. The show did gave her some control over what's happening later, as she was shown to chose to sacrifice herself, but it is another, like, 10 episodes.
It is also somewhat subjective, as some things feel worse for some people, like how doctors probably cringe every time they see medical scene in a hollywood.
This is one of my favorite backstory episodes in shippuden. It would’ve been better if only they didn’t make us rewatch it every other episode…

In the original language which helps more when understanding some situations white zetsu told Madara when Obito came back that when Kakashi woke up he was yelling “who killed all the enemy” when the leaf showed up.

not watching the ending after that episode is CRIMINAL
Crazy thing about project Tsuki No Me is that it’s not even that easy to disagree with. There’s all kinds of pain in the world and if some people have to be sacrificed to attain world peace then you could see why Obito would think it’s worth it. It comes down to the debate of whether it’s more important to end the conflict & pain of this world immediately or if it’s more important to end the world’s conflict & pain authentically, without “cheating” by throwing everyone into an illusion so to speak.
Honestly if that could be possible in reality I would be one of the people to say yes please do it lol

Probably my favourite episode of Naruto. I was just speechless after watching it the first time.
Every sharingan is unique in it's own way. The sharingan progresses the more emotional pain the user suffers. Kakashi passed out because he was emotional overwhelmed and due to the activation of the mangekyou sharingan.
Also Kakashi is not an Uchiha that's why he can't use the mangekyou like Obito.
Obito took the tobi personality as an decoy and pretty much acted everything he did. His mask is Also inspired by tobis appearance.
i love this episode, is the most brutal moment of the show... even in manga i think is more violent
sadly this is the only episode where the anime would not change/censor from manga, as all scenes and fights are *brutal* like this. Simpliflying wounds or not doing more than pain without lost make the techniques look harmless or the characters stronger like than what they originaly are-

What makes this crazy, is the original manga panels for this were so violent that shounen jump made Kishimoto rewrite them. What we got was the "toned-down" version! Kishimoto really wanted to show that Obito truly was in hell...
Yup , this is where shit got real for me , and it felt great that everything from the very beginning was pretty much about obito rin and kakashi not sasuke sakura and naruto.

I would like to remind you that a very young Obito managed to destroy the Leaf village, kill the Hokage and his wife, control the Nine Tails, summon a whole group of monsters and make them dance while playing two people as if he had some split personality disorder while concealing his real identity, pretended to be an amateur member of the group that he himself was a boss of (which was sick, almost like Undercover Boss), pretended to be the most soul-scaring Shinobi of all time, kill most of the Uchiha by himself, control the 3rd Mizukage, put Nagato under his feet and almost put the world under a dream.
Umm..... Let's see, no bingo book is worthy enough to hold the name of Obito Uchiha of the Kamui.
It's like Obito's been stuck in the first stage of grief ever since then.

If you haven't noticed, both when Kakashi got his sharingan and when his mangekyo activated after killing Rin, he only cries from the eye that obito gave him. Which is deep on so many levels.

I'm glad you guys saw this episode. Obito was basically an uchiha version of Naruto. But it just shows how influential Teachers and Sensei's really are. Obito learned from Madara and Naruto learned from Jiriya. Same type of student two major different paths. Also the reason why Rin was killed by Kakashi was because Rin had the three Tails inside of her and was going to be used by the hidden Mist. So Kakashi did the duties of a ninja and kept a promise to Rin by killing her the three tails stays out of enemy hands and Rin doesn't spend her life being a weapon used by others.
