    Hi Anna: What a wonderfully detailed and illuminating video about your experience in taking the CCC exam. Congratulations to you for gaining the CCC credential! For anyone contemplating taking this exam, it was chock-full of useful tips. I wonder, did you skip the more challenging questions and return to those later? On the "None of the Above" questions did you look up codes to eliminate, look at the Guidelines for answers, or happen to know some of these through experience? With the clinical information requirement questions, did you take an educated guess or try to find the HCPCS code from the index list of modifiers? For gaining essential knowledge surrounding the EP procedures, would you recommend additional reading? I’m not sure how a person would gain the billing knowledge without being in the field for a time. Thanks for another great video. Stacie

      Thank you Stacie! :) It isn't easy but it is doable!! Yes, I always skip the questions I cannot answer immediately and come back to them later. No use sitting on them because every answer is 1 point, the same. I always try to score the ones I know for sure, first. When I take an exam, I index everything and code the scenarios myself. It sounds harder than it is. Once I have my preliminary codes after indexing, I quickly cross check the guidelines and other additional notes under the codes, then see what my answer choices are and choose the correct one. For the clinical info, I actually found the answers to the questions within the exam itself. For example question number 11 was aswered for me by surgical case number 4 ;) For EP procedures TOTALLY read the clinical side to understand what is going on. What procedure does what, what abbreviations mean etc. Although I have to say that this year's EP coding is WAY easier thanks to the new table in the CPT book. I didn't have that in 2021. For sure explore that table and understand what it is about. Billing knowledge comes with experience or just by reading up on it. There are plenty of great articles out there to help! Best of luck on your exam if you decide to go for it!! :)

    HI Anna, I just enjoy all your videos. As for the 3 CARDIO certifications do you recommend having a CCS with credential CCVTC ?

    • @TheMedicalCodingGuild
      @TheMedicalCodingGuild  2 роки тому

      Hi Valerie! Thank you for checking out the video! :) Having the CCS is always very good as it carries a lot of weight in the industry. So much so that some big hospital networks won't even consider you without it. Of course, this depends on region and specialty you want to get into, but in general the CCS is prestigious and good to have. As for the CCVTC, it is definitely a niche credential. Unless you are serious about thoracic surgical coding, you don't really need to get it. (It doesn't hurt but the more creds you have the more CEUs you have to submit and for this one you need specialty CEUs as well.) Would thoracic be your focus or rather cardiology?

    thank you for sharing! I just purchased the CCC training course hoping to get my certification this year.. i have been coding cardiology for at least 5 yrs but my providers do not performed extensive or complex cardiovascular procedures so I thought the training course might help me with this, but i need to check out your other videos about the AAPC training courses.. i hope I didn't just waste my money :/

      Hi YazMex! Well... hopefully not. I purchased an other specialty training course and didn't have a positive experience, but it wasn't the CCC. (You can find the review on the channel.) If you have been coding cariology for 5 years you will have no problem passing the exam, I am sure! There are a lot of general and billing related questions so even if you don't know all the complex stuff, you should pass with flying colors. :) I am rooting for you!! Please let me know how you like the CCC course.

    Hi new here! I just started my course to be a certified coding specialist. After getting my course done, I been wanting to also get the cardiovascular one as well. I have no experience and I read that you need experience in the coding field and being able to take this test.

    • @TheMedicalCodingGuild
      @TheMedicalCodingGuild  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Kazuko! Welcome to the field! Yes, so the experience requirement is in place because the test is hard. I already held... I think 7 or 8 other credentials and had 6+ years in the field before attempting the CCC and I still couldn't get a 100% on the exam. It doesn't mean that well prepared, new coders cannot sit for the exam, but be ready for complex questions and scenarios needing a broader understanding of coding and billing. The test won't strictly focus on cardio related issues, there will be E/M, billing, compliance etc. With that said, I highly recommend taking the CCC as cardio coding is always in high demand.

    • @TheMedicalCodingGuild
      @TheMedicalCodingGuild  2 роки тому

      @@GCXperts If you could work in cardiology before taking the CCC that would be best, yes. If not, a lot of studying can bridge the gap. :) Afterall, you only need 70% to pass, not a 100% . I am not implying that you would be unable to score a 100%, but you know what I mean. If you do decide to go for the CCC, review the NCCI edits, E/M coding rules, global surgical package rules etc. As I said, specialty exams cover more than strictly just specialty related quesitons.

      Hi Shima, the best way to learn about workflow and coding in the USA is to read articles and purchase the CCS prep book from AHIMA. It has exercises on coding and documentation requirements. For DRG, please see my channel and the several videos I uploaded on DRG assinment, HAC conditions, POA and principal diagnosis.

      Hi Renuka! The options are mainly: a college degree in data analytics or the CHDA from AHIMA. Here is the link, I hope it will post properly: www.ahima.org/certification-careers/certification-exams/chda/ You can take online courses and then get certified if AHIMA exams are available nearby. With this certification and your extensive experience you should be able to get a great data analyst position! :)

      @@melvinbreton2710 So we both learnt something today! I didn't know AAPC had an SNF course. Thanks for letting me know! :D [ Would you recommend? Is it worth its price? ] Yes, the cardiovascular has its own specialties, currently AAPC offers 3 certs in it: the CCC, the CCVTC and the CIRCC. That last one is very tough interventional radiology not just for vascular but neruological, urological and every other system you can peek into with a cathether. As you go through the cardio chapter you will see what you feel more drawn to and that will help deciding on the right credential for you. Hi Anna what additional book would you suggest to take for CCC certification

    • @TheMedicalCodingGuild
      @TheMedicalCodingGuild  Рік тому

      Hi Linda! I am not sure if additional resources are allowed on the exam anymore (since they changed format from 150 questions to 100 and they are mostly virtual). This is what I found under 'Allowed code books' for the CCC:
      AMA's CPT® Professional Edition (current year)
      ICD-10-CM (current year), any publisher
      HCPCS Level II (current year), any publisher
      Anatomical charts or pictures of the vascular tree
      If taking the exam in person, you may also bring E/M audit worksheets of your choice.
      Note: Code sets are updated annually, so it’s essential to use the current calendar year's code books when taking the CCC certification exam.
      Any officially published updates (errata) for the above code books may also be used.
      Even if not for the exam, I highly recommend at least studying with a specialty guide (like Optum) and taking notes in your CPT. Reminders, pointers like 'oh, so this has a MUE of 2 but Medicare needs me to bill with modifier -50 and 1 unit only'. Or, oh, so this one has a professional and technical component, I didn't know that. (Some cath and therapueitc procedures starting with 3 or 9). When do you plan on testing?
