Thank you so much for posting this! A friend gave me her mom's alto cutting system and your video was perfect in instruction as well as time length for me to get all the info I needed to make my mats.
Thanks for keeping this video up here for us to refer back to.
You make it look very easy. Thanks, and great instructions.
Very nice tutorial. I know this is a really old video, but if you see this, could you possibly make another one with instructions for how to cut a reverse bevel? (For the inner mat on pastel paintings).
Thank you! The instructions that came with the cutter did not get me on the right road to understanding how to fit it together. Your video showed me what I needed to know.
Help! I’m almost out of blades. How can I get 10 -20 blades?
Has Alto's gone out of business? They started in 1974. I will have scramble to buy the extras I didn't buy at the time. Hopefully the cutter blades will continue to be sold. I like their simple system
Hello, I have an Alto's 4501 mat cutter. It is 32" long but I want to cut a mat that is 34" long. Is the 4501 capable of doing this or will I need to purchase a 36" 4505 mat cutter for cutting a longer length? Thank you in advance for any advice.
I can't find anywhere how to change my blade in the 45 mat cutter! Could you help me?
Push down on the cutter (like you're making a cut) and remove the thumb screw - the red case will now drop out the bottom. Don't remove that hex screw above the thumb screw, it's not necessary and you'll have to play around with a spring to get it back together properly. There's a video on YT called 'Alto's Matmakers : The Basics' that shows how at the 7 minute mark.
I'm confused about one thing...at close to 4:55 and at a couple of other points, the cut piece starts to emerge from the original board. The cut lines are about 1/8" or 1/4" inside of the pencil lines. Why is that? I thought you'd be cutting exactly on the pencil lines, at 3" and 4".
Never mind...I got it.
