I did the same thing with canned red beans (drained the water) and used chicken stock instead of the canned water and it turned out great. I sautéed the beans and the other ingredients in the sugar for a few minutes first, then added the stock Thanks Natasha😊

I love your baking soda trick. I almost never remember to soak the beans night before but the baking soda definitely helps soften it up. Thank you for this wonderfully nostalgic recipe!

Made this just now. Came out very tasty😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋...I didn't use ketchup! I steamed tomatoes and removed the skin to make homemade tomato paste☺...I also used two extra tomatoes. I didn't use any maggi cube either. Thanks Natasha🤗🤗🤗👏👏👏

I do my red beans a bit different in the sequence you have done yours,, I pressure the beans ( in the pressure cooker add water about two inches above the beans and for about two whistle . always allow the cooker to become cool on its own ,, ) , and in a pot ( sometimes a wok ) I add oil an then the sugar allow to caramelize then add the onion, garlic , ginger (very small ) pepper ect (but no golden ray ) then I pound the seasoning ( in a lorha and seal ) to paste add and cook as usual .. and that's it … I like my beans with a bit of sauce to go with rice or provision ect …..

How much coconut milk can I use? What are the exact measurements for the powdered and liquid versions? I know you didn't use coconut milk in this recipe, but I want to include it in mines. I know some people use coconut milk as well.

Love your version of recipes. Can I suggest using a wooden spoon when using your aluminum pots. In that way you don't get much aluminum into your food since the wooden spoon will not be able to scratch your pots. Keep up the good work.
