    as someone who has had to give up alot of art because of three herniated discs this is the sweetest thing I've seen, and I'm crying Thanks for making this video.

    My friend stopped painting because of pain and I’m doing research on aids that can help her. Thank you so much, this was very helpful!

    Thank you! I’m not disabled but I do have weak hands and shaking issues. As a beginner artist I think some of these tools could help me train my hands more. 💖 I would love to see more art companies taking accessibility into account so more people could continue or begin their art journeys.

    This information is very helpful! Just a few days ago I was working with a bunch of adults with disabilities as they tried to follow a very simple painting tutorial intended for children. One of the participants is an older man with an intellectual disability, and more recently with tremors and dementia, and all he had done was put a few blobs of color on top of each other in the center of his paper. I have watched him paint before and this seemed to be his usual MO, so I was surprised when at some point he said, “I can’t do it! I can’t control the brush!” I felt bad because I had no idea up until then that he had been struggling. He said he was trying to make a sunflower. I tried to analyze what was going on for him, but I am not an occupational therapist, and it really looked to me like he was holding the brush and simply not moving his hand or arm. Even with his tremors I expected he could make like a child’s sun with a circle and rays coming out, so I demonstrated that simplified flower for him. I realized that he had a small brush head, so I found what looked like a crayola poster paints brush, which not only made fuller strokes, but was probably a little more easy to grip. But he still just sat there with his paintbrush adding more paint to the blobs he had already made. It was super frustrating for me not to know how to help him. I don’t think these grip assists are the full solution to allow him to be able to paint, but perhaps with that out of the way, we’d be able to see the next hurdle he would need to overcome to be able to paint as he obviously wants to do.

      It sounds like you guys are headed in the right direction. I wonder if some weight or the leaning bridge might help, but hard to say as I'm also not an occupational therapist. I hope he's able to achieve the sunflower he's hoping to make.

      @@RebelUnicornCrafts I just found out today that the man I was referring to was extremely good at drawing as recently as five years ago! We are going to do our best to help him reclaim whatever artistic ability is still acccessible to him. ❤❤

    I've been using hair curlers on my brushes, pencils... but something egg shaped would be much better

    I've seen some crochet artists using tennis balls in the same manner as the foam egg grip. That might also work for some people.

    I have horrible cts in my wrists and elbows so I put a wad of tape around my brush so I can grip it when my hand is numb similar to the egg grip thing. Thank you ❤️

      Yes please let me know how it works! I do have to say I love loose paintings, but I'm sure its frustrating if that wasn't the goal!

    Thank you SO much for this video! I was pointed to it in a discussion group for Watts Attelier online program where I posted asking for advice. I was born with a birth defect on my right hand...my thumb was all wrong and an extra finger. They removed the extra finger at birth, but I have had many reconstructive surgeries on the thumb. It has deteriorated a lot since the last surgery and I am getting arthritis, and I am older...all meaning I really have a hard time holding onto a pencil or brush. I was a pretty good artist in my youth and did fine arts at university. As I just retired, I was hoping to go back to my art with relish, but have been very, very disappointed that I cannot even control a pencil. I will try all your suggestions. There must be a way!! Thanks again!

      I'm so sorry to hear it's getting harder to paint. Yes, I hope that something from here definitely can help get you creating again- and not in pain while doing it. Best wishes!

    As a left hander, I wonder if the ring would work if you spun it around and held the brush between your index finger and middle finger. I'm looking around my house to try to emulate that tool so I can test it.

    • @RebelUnicornCrafts
      @RebelUnicornCrafts  2 роки тому +3

      That might work. I feel like it would be so easy for them to just 3d print one with it angled the other way so left handed people could use it normally!

      @@RebelUnicornCrafts I agree! As a lefty, though, I’ve held my pens and brushes so many different ways it might not be much of a challenge. At least for me, but I’m a bit of an odd duck. 😁
