Just bought a used one for $125, used only twice...perfect shape.....You are a very honest creator....Don't edit out anything...viewers want to see, exactly what you demonstrated...Man & Machine
great buy on this thing. Thanks for your feedback, somedays youtube comments are not as amazing as yours!
I appreciate this video especially unboxing from the beginning. I bought this auger and have no experience at all with using one. I'm disappointed with the instructions. For a beginner, there's really no direction on how to actually use this machine. Thank you for a good demonstration and honest comments. Your hands on video cleared up some questions for me and I'm looking forward to getting some work done with this thing now. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback!!!!
@@CountryHobbyist I thought the video was great, and I agree with @ninabrown3044 that the instructions aren't especially helpful about operating the auger. But you did one thing so many others with UA-cam videos fail to do: you kept the auger straight, and bored straight down! I have seen several start the machine and stand a step or two behind it, and drill at an angle... getting nowhere fast! Well done, good sir!
Thanks for making this video. I have an auger that attaches to my Kubota, but you can't get the tractor into every spot you want a post. I purchased the same auger and an additonal 3" auger bit for smaller diameter posts. My wife and I change our garden configuration every year. Overall, great video. I am always a little more winded at the beginning of the season and seem to get better as the summer moves along. I too sit at a desk all day long. Sometimes I feel like it is killing me. I enjoy gardening and getting outside every chance I get. Again, great video.
Thanks for the comment! Your statement about being at a desk all day really nails how I have been feeling too. Good luck with your garden this year!
Thank you for sharing how to properly turn on the auger.
I use trufuel on All of my small engines whether it’s 40:1 to 50:1 Got really tired of taking apart the carburetor and cleaning it out and I don’t have to run it dry Saves me money in the long run cause Time is money🇺🇸
I have really changed my ideas the past year on buying premixed fuel. Everything I ran it in this year ran a lot better!
@@CountryHobbyist it’s like rubbing alcohol it just dissipates and doesn’t leave that gummy stuff behind that chokes these little baby carburetors for me it’s worth the extra money and not having to deal with the hassle of opening something up that technically doesn’t run the same even after extensive cleaning But then again nothing is built like it was for my father and grandfather most parts are cast aluminum and plastic🇺🇸
@@CountryHobbyist hey I was wondering when are you able to first dig a post hole by hand here ?
I know it be a estimate depending on how warm it is but any thoughts?
I would say we are pretty good to go now. The ground is past froze. Probably the last two weeks of March would be past the freeze.
That next time someone decides to knock your mailbox down you don't have to go out and buy a $270 machine to reinstall a post with.
I'm thinking of using this for tomatoes and pepper plants. They don't need to be but 12-15" deep at most to accommodate potting soil and growing goodies.
I have found over the years of yard farming, that filling the hole then adding a little mulch around them fills the holes completely and no need to worry about the mower being rough over the holes next year.
I don’t agree, any excuse you can make to buy a power tool is a good enough excuse!!!!! Lol thanks for the comment 😁
Any tips I was digging a hole near by tree and it just stock
have you tried cussing? Possibly threatening the augers existence? I normally start there. I have not been completely stuck where I couldnt get the auger out. best wishes to you, just trey to wiggle the entire thing back and forth and hopefully you can get it out.
It's stuck in the tree roots. Pine trees are all around my yard so it's a common problem. AS SOON as you feel a root BACK THE AUGER OUT. I've found it best to use a saws all to cut the roots as soon as you find them.
How does it do in the south. Heavy clay soil?? Anyone know? Does it need another type bit?
Dude, you made it way harder than it should have been, not to mention cutting the engine's life in half by not clearing the augered dirt from the hole. You should have been lifting the auger up almost out of the hole in order to clear the dirt.
Being three years old now, I'm sure you've figured that out by now. Hopefully 🤞 😂
By the way, majority of us, myself included relate 100% to the easily winded struggles. 😂 🍽
im no smarter today than I was 3 years ago, you made a terrible assumption there 😂😂!!! thanks for the points, hopefully others will read your comments and avoid these painful learning experiences. On another note, even treating this thing like hell it still fires right up and does its job. that should be a good selling point for this thing.
You are really funny and for that matter I will give you 5*, for being honest. I have learned some lessons though.
Thank you for watching!!!
How has this auger been treating you so far?
It gets borrowed more often than I would like. However it has held up really well from all of the use. I’m not disappointed with the purchase for being able to use it around the house.
@@CountryHobbyist Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm a 5'2" female. I'm slightly intimated to use this, any advice to help me safely dig a couple holes? Thank you!!
After having this for a while now, I’ll admit that unless it really light soil, this is a two person machine. It’s a tool that can take it out of you. If that’s not a luxury, then I will say 💪 girl power and don’t be afraid to let go of the throttle. I just think what you want to avoid is having to get in that heavy clay/rocks and end up getting whacked in the shin like I did! That hurt!
@@CountryHobbyist I think I'll get a friend to help on the first hole and see how it goes! Thank you!!
If you have clay soil it will work you real good, especially when you start hitting rocks, but it's better than digging 30" or deeper holes by hand. Always be ready for the unit to slam against you because when it hits rock that is what it will do so always brace your stance and brace the unit against your body so it doesn't wack you too hard and don't be afraid to let it go. Don't stand leisurely while using the auger because you will regret it. Take breaks if you have to. I broke a 12" bit in our clay soil. I'd love to work in his soil.
When I screw on the auger it kinda wobbles a bit where the motor is at. Is that normal? Of course this is before turning on.
Mine is not super snug. I think of it as a way to work past rocks.
Look where motor month to frame. Mine from Harbor Freight has rubber isolators to absorb the shock. Yours probably does too.
Will this handle a rocky and clay filled dirt?
It would be a workout, but still better than a manual set of hole diggers. We have a lot of clay in our soil too and I would buy this again.
Is that a rocky area 🤔
Indiana soil, I’m pretty sure there are small rocks everywhere.
3:55 lol awesome
lol, nothing better than trying to act professional and pull a stunt like that! thanks for watching!!
“If you watch my channel I’m always winded” -🤣
@@Hi4maga3404 its sad lol. I try not to say its because im fat and getting old but it happens. Thanks for watching!
I run an auger for a living and you did two things wrong.
1. You didn't extract the dirt out enough times. You were fighting dirt that you already lossened.
2. You didnt let the auger do the work. You can't force it or it will bog down. Go slow, its not a race.
i saw the same thing
You just need to add a little more gas to the 40:1 to get 50:1. Easy-peasy.
best advice of the week
Good vid man
Now I see why they have the augers on heavy equipment.
I would be really happy to have one on a piece of heavy equipment, it would be a lot easier to run! thanks for watching!!
You will be surprised what they will walk out of Lowe's with I've seen some 1 walk out with a generator like he owned it
Good Point. I dont even remember what comment I made in this video but probably was naive in thinking most people are honest. I still think this auger was over packaged lol.
I was 3rd in line for a return around closing and the cashier suddenly stopped and loudly proclaimed "there he goes again!" We all looked to see a guy late 20s casually sauntering out the store carrying a mini fridge for wine without a care in the world.
When it was my turn, I asked where loss prevention was and she said they don't close on weekdays. I guess the invoice price of the mini fridge was an acceptable loss vs paying 2 people to stick around until closing. This is in the Jersey City/Bayonne NJ area
Harbor freight auger has a bigger engine 52cc 😄 comes with a 8" bit.
But it wasn’t in stock the day I went to buy an auger… or this review would have been on it. It only comes with a 6” bit btw.
“You know what that is. I know what that is.”
sometimes it just happens
Why the fuk would you buy a single person auger when you have a tractor with a pto?
This is the most legit question of all time. Simple answer lack of $$$ at the time. It is a lot faster to get this hand auger out for 1 or 2 holes though. Thanks for keeping me honest and reminding me of my continued poor decision making skills.
@@CountryHobbyist Well I wish I could justify a tractor purchase but I wouldnt use it that often so I'm stuck moving dirt and sand on my truck the old fashion back breaking one shovel at a time way. I just ordered that post hole auger it should make putting up a 200 ft long fence easier. On a positive note my arms after one year of hardcore pickaxe and shovel work look a hundred times more ripped than all the years I spent at the gym. Farmer strength coming in nicely.
If you're going through the effort to post a video of using/testing a product don't you think you should prepare a little first? Or learn how to edit your video?
I guess its the same as why would you waste time belittling someone's videography skills, just give it a thumbs down and move on. Sorry im not your cup of tea.
I thought it was a good video...it's not suppose to be Hollyweird is it ?
Why? This way is a more honest video of a first experience using it. That way people really know what to expect
I found this video helpful. I want to see it in real time and not some paid promotion. Not an expert that has practiced so I have to rewind the video and feel frustrated. I'm trying to learn.
This is what real men who enjoy working with their hands like in a video. We don't need polished videos, just a dude who got a new power tool and wants to show us how it works. Go watch an influencer's video.
