30 YEARS AGO TODAY my buddy and I took our first Grateful Dead road trip... NYC to SPAC. A few weeks earlier I had slept on the sidewalk outside of Tower Records for tickets. My memories of that show are still quite vivid...We were in the pit. This was my first live Scarlet>Fire which was one of my fave jams, so when they dropped into Fire I started freaking out. After the first verse Jerry started doing a little dance, kicking up a leg and swigging the guitar around. We started freaking out some more!! At about 13:13 of this clip Jerry busts into a crazy, super fast rippin' solo...and our heads friggin' exploded! Faces completely stolen!! Jerry danced all the way through the solo and we were literally were bouncing off the ceiling! I have listened to this recording hundreds of times over the last 30 years and that solo still gives me chills!!
NFA ❤️🔥⚡
Remember this show well ... the rain, the Scarlet/Fire, the fence jumping, someone delivering pizzas in the parking lot, good friends and great times. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Michael Bobrowski: There was rain??? I don't remember any rain at all. ;')

Shannon DeCelle it was my first show too at 19 !! i will never forget this and after listening to this today i know why. they never played spac again. i was there with some people that are now dead due to them having too much too fast.
I was fortunate to have been born in Saratoga Springs, started going to SPAC as a youngster, saw so many great shows including this one.And to this day I still go,enjoying it just as much.looking back I know just how lucky I was and still am.
I had a ticket. used it. watched 100's and 100's jump as soon as the music started. rode in the tops of the trees during the rain. fun times.
The fence jumpers were out of control! Crazy! But the show was top-notch!
Thanks Jed.....SPAC was always a fav. I'm from Chicago, so Rosemont , Soldiers, and Alpine (my first 1986) were regular stops for me :)
I was there as well. I wasn't even 16 years old. Awesome! The fence jumping was unreal, as was the rain and the music, of course!
Loved that whole show, dancing in the rain near the trees and was on that tour.
My first, last and only Dead show. I too remember the rain...

This was a crummy show (not musically) - torrential rain and gate crashers. Ended up being a bit of a bummer for me.
