The people complaining about the quality have obviously never recorded through a 4 track. This is better quality than anyone here in the comments could do with analog recording equipment.
I completely understand what you are saying. The quality IMO is pretty crisp, especially for a demo. No clue why people feel the need to complain about unfinished songs.
I actually prefer this version bc it sounds so melancholic, sad, kinda reverberating the broken and rebuilt soul of them (especially Fru and AK with their drug addictions). Of course the original/album version is more produced and sounds better, but this one has this peculiar taste I just described...
I prefer the intro with no vocals. Just the intrusmental rolling for 4 bars with the bass hitting high in the mix. I wish the studio version had that. I'd use that several times throughout the track if I were them. Hell I'd probably even make it 8 bars. I love it
Saying that "Californication" is more produced and that is sounds better is truly an over exaggeration. Very few professional and mainstream records sounds as horrible as this one. All thanks to the terrible production and mastering.
Who ever complain about the quality of this doesn't know bout live music , that's the whole point to hear it as the band sounds in that moment whether it'd on an old 4 track or whatever it was better back in the day just sounds raw and how it should !
Not sure if anyone really cares, but I've made a version of this demo with the original vocals, so you'll maybe want to check out that one too if you like the instrumental on this version.
@@emfraridades7261 I don't identify any auto-tune on this album. The vocals sounds natural and has imperfections. Also, this album was released just 1 year after the first song ever to use auto-tune, so the technology was def not well established at this point
I was going through an absolutely horrible time in my life when this came out. I used to go off-roading in the mountains with my 4x4. “With the birds I’ll share this lonely view” would have applied to me if I would have intentionally drove my truck off a steep switchback high up the mountain. For a couple of seconds, only me and the birds could share that same view as I fell. Desperation was a close friend to me back then and I figured that if I did it that way, it would be considered an accident, my wife would carry no guilt and she could collect the life insurance without any issues. I actually thought that I was losing my mind and so did she. I had convinced myself that she was cheating on me and making a fool of me. I drank way too much trying to cope because things just didn’t make sense. Yeah, turns out that she WAS indeed cheating on me and had been for years. Rather than confess to it and we both move on, she convinced me that the things I had seen weren’t true and didn’t happen. Evil person she was- and she’d have probably been amused and celebrated if I had deleted myself.

Yes, Teatro Studio in Oxnard, CA. Daniel Lanois converted the Teatro into a recording studio where music legends Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2 would play.
Do you have the picture with illustration effect in high quality from the Tiny Dancer performance from pink pop 90, that you use on the video? I'd love to print it out.
@@RedHotBSSM Ok you re not as hardcore fan as I thought you'd be then, otherwise you'd know the picture on the video is taken from John's covering Tiny Dancer of Elton John on Pinkpop 1990. Look up for it on UA-cam and you'll get what I say.

I love how simple the solos are. It’s like an autumn rain.
I really wished we would have had a 20 year anniversary box set with all these demo and alt takes

It's just silly. Lol. These kids have no clue how tracks used to be put together. And they'd never have the ability to do it.
Analog and outcome of this recording ftw!

I have been recording and mixing my own music for 8 years now. I don't see how anyone can complain about the quality. It's pretty clear.
literally not one person has complained you just want an excuse to spout a narccasistic rant about late 90s gear

I love how big and booming the drums sound in this.
Chad really knows how to work a snare
The outro on this without the solos is actually so good. Like a wood fire warbling into the night. Almost shoegazey
Beautiful. This song takes me back to high school love days. Hits me every time.
Melodic intro. Boom drumming entrance. Smooth bass. Clean vocal.

As much as i love the peppers, that demo shows how much they owe Rick Rubin and proper production.
Dmz248 Rubin was good but the person in charge of mixing fucked it all up with all the compression.
Dmz248 have you ever heard the cds sound quality. I don't think you have mate
To be fair, almost no band would sound good without a proper mix.
The band sounds great, it's only the singer that needed the production.
you know what a demo is right?
AK has a good voice. Of course he uses something to make him sound better
Ok, the sound quality is poor, but how anybody could dislike this amazing song? L
