Another strategy that backfired in that Walz is so likable that he is infectious. He is down to earth and relatable and in that way more appealing to those who think the Democrats are elitist. It’s so clear that Walz is just a good guy and he is relatable to regular folk, like many of those who identify as Republican.

I thought that Kelly would be the politically safest pick in light of this and because I knew the mainstream media were going to cynically bring up whether or not Walz was "too liberal", but Kamala surprised me a little and picked Walz anyway. It was an interesting play at uniting the establishment and progressive wings of the party and it seems to be working...for now. I say for now because eventually both will be pressed harder on Gaza and they will have a difficult line to walk to convince progressive voters that they're more serious than Biden has been about not continuing to enable the horror we've seen in Gaza so far while at the same time not alienating the establishment forces they're in bed with.

Normally, the VP pack doesn’t really move the needle much. But this is not a normal election. Kamala had the threat a needle. Another strategy that backfired in that Walz is so likable that he is infectious. He is down to earth and relatable and in that way more appealing to those who think the Democrats are elitist. I thought that Kelly would be the politically safest pick in light of this and because I knew the mainstream media were going to cynically bring up whether or not Walz was "too liberal", but Kamala surprised me a little and picked Walz anyway. It was an interesting play at uniting the establishment and progressive wings of the party and it seems to be working...for now.
I say for now because eventually both will be pressed harder on Gaza and they will have a difficult line to walk to convince progressive voters that they're more serious than Biden has been about not continuing to enable the horror we've seen in Gaza so far while at the same time not alienating the establishment forces they're in bed with.
