Want even more from Salehe? Listen to the extended interview on our podcast. Twice the runtime, twice the insights, twice the inspiration: anchor.fm/ideageneration/episodes/How-Salehe-Bembury-Went-from-Payless-to-Versace-to-Birthing-His-Own-Brand--IDEA-GENERATION-S2-E3-e1n8pg4
Salehe has a good soul and an eye for marrying the unknown with usable, wearable, art. He used to visit my Marthas Vineyard pop-up shop and when I learned we both had wooden briefcases, it was bruv at first sight. He juggles and I do magic tricks, too. I think in our past lives we were a traveling act. Rooting for Salehe from Boston and looking forward to seeing what he creates next!
So inspiring for someone like me. He went from unemployment to flying out to Milan with 2 chainz to a fashion show where everyone was wearing his shoes. So amazing.
Met Salehe while running my brand's booth at the Market Pop-Up. As a black man in the industry, what he's done for the next generation of POC designers and entrepreneurs is hard to even quantify with words. Truly an honor to watch this video and hear even deeper insights to his processes and progression. Thanks for even spending a little bit of time talking with me fam. I know Anwar and them had you lifted as hell lol.
This channel def does it all for me. I remember after my 2nd ACL injury as a college basketball player, I listened to Salehe’s episode on Hypebeast radio with Jeff Staple & it changed my life as I began my journey as a designer. Thank you guys for this🙏🏾
One of my favorite episodes. So much insight into Salehe’s process that we can learn from and apply. Crazy to think of the people working with Kanye over the last several years have all grown on to create their own successful brands. The Versace sneaker was great - but it took him becoming his own brand, launching Spunge and working with NB and releasing those crocs for me to notice his influence.
His designs are instigating a desire to experience the fresh and different elements of the world… to be a part of a greater picture. Intentional and inspiring journey to the present creating objects that are asking us to experience more.
This is a phenomenal interview. Extremely insightful and helpful. He stated that he learned to communicate and network through his father, which eventually seems to end up being his way of shining, not only networking through LinkedIn, but also the fact that he admits that he had media written about him while his peers didn't, most likely because of his ability to connect with others. Hope the best for this man's future.
I’ve been following Salehe for a couple of months on instagram, and how this man is approaching his craft and tryin to make sure it’s more human and close to our lifestyles these days is just so inspiring. And knowing about his whole process in here is quite interesting and you can just learn persistence and know how to keep pushing from looking at this guy’s career milestones 🔥❤️
I love Salehe. One of my favorite designers. His Crocs are my favorite shoes period. I love collecting his work and he is an amazing designer and an inspiration.
Hearing about Salehe's climb is inspiring. I like to learn about the ins and outs of fashion in my freetime and its nice to put a face with the creation and design. I appreciate how open Salahe was here. I know about that unemployment life so to go from that to Versace is just beyond exciting. Fantastic interview.
Wow! I wondered why I liked the look of the CROCS. Wasn’t sold into the hype or even want to cash into it bc of that but the Cole Haan X Lunargrand was a great moment in sneakerhead work life. Many of us were heading into or progressing in business at that time and it’s the true predecessor of the classic casual sneaker that’s the staple of many outfits today.
Man, this is super inspiring. Been in that design world of getting let go, just to grind and hustle to find the next gig. Hitting up random people on LinkedIn and sometimes it pops off.
The amazing value of priviledged in having cross-generational influences. I love these types of stories. Picking up from your parents but in a different way.
I'm not really a sneaker head but this was mad insightful and inspiring respect to Salehe... The production on this video is fire too.. and the music... *checks credits... "A-Trak"... that's some Yeezy inception shiii right there. 👌👌👌I once went to a Kanye concert in Cape Town mainly to check A-Trak and his half-time show.. lol
