    This is so helpful. I have stumbled into the world of digital marketing by getting my wifes business out there on the internet and while doing so I realised it’s very interesting. I in the meanwhile became an SEO and SEA specialist, a photo and videographer, graphic designer, website developer, copywriter and much more 😂
    I even started to get some clients based on the work I did for my wife.
    Now I’m wondering how it is to work in a proper agency and would I be useful in a place like that.
    Thanks for your nice video

      Oh good! I'm so glad to hear that it was helpful. Digital marketing is definitely a dynamic and exciting career path! I find that a lot of people who dive into it end up being a jack of all trades (which can be a really good thing! Even though I don't design websites or create videos as part of my 9-5, I use those skills daily in other capacities... so nothing goes to waste) Good luck as you continue to explore it!

    I thought this was a creative job but it seems more like business/money related with the main focus being on numbers which doesn't appeal to me at all. Marketing is quite vague and confusing to outsiders and appears to mean many different things. I do copywriting and see no crossover with this whatsoever, maybe i'd be better suited looking at social media specialist roles? Appreciate the insight!

      I definitely get what you mean. "Marketing" can be a really broad umbrella that encompasses numerous roles & responsibilities. In general, the purpose of marketing is to drive profit or awareness for a business or cause. Because of that, it will largely include numbers (to prove a campaign's success) and strategy (to drive the right people through the right doors to create the largest amount of profit or change). If you're more attracted to the creative side (such as MAKING the content that is going out on behalf of businesses): then you can explore roles in Copywriting, Graphic Design, Graphic Illustration, Photography, Videography, etc. A Social Media Specialist will sometimes create the content themselves... but often times they will have a graphic designer and/or copywriter providing the content to them to post. Social Media Specialists (like Digital Marketing Specialists) will often focus on strategy/numbers, but instead of looking at paid media, they'll be an expert on the organic-growth side of things (so... when is the most effective time to post? how often should you be posting? how many platforms should you be on? what is the brand voice you should put out on social media? etc.) As you explore, I would just ask yourself: do you want to LEAD with creativity and come in second with strategy? Or, do you want to lead with strategy and come in second with creativity? That can help direct you! Also, just experimenting within the roles themselves and discovering your passions/strengths along the way! As a digital marketing specialist, I do lead with strategy and analytics (65% of my job), but I also have the opportunity to work with my strategy team to name restaurants, come up with new video topics, brainstorm content ideas, etc! All of those tasks do exercise my creative muscles. So long story short: it will vary widely based on the job or position, but creativity will be involved to some capacity.

    I graduated with a degree in digital media game design but I'm reconstructing my life. I looked up what I could do with a digital media degree and digital media specialist is one of them. Is that different than digital marketing and if so can I still qualify?

      Hey! Well, game design is a far separate set of skills than marketing… but, with that foundation, you likely have a TON of technical knowledge that could be incorporated into the digital marketing world. I would maybe look into positions specializing in website development. You would be apart of the marketing world by constructing & maintaining a client’s website, but it would lean into more of the technical field of coding & design as opposed to using a marketing tool belt.

    if a person want to be a digital marketing specialist then what is the road map according to you!
    And what are the skills to learn to be a good digital marketing specialist!

    • @jennajustman
      @jennajustman  2 місяці тому +2

      Hey! I wouldn't say there's just one roadmap to becoming a digital marketing specialist. It depends on where you're starting from, what experience you already have, etc. For college students, it might be a good idea to major in Marketing (or some adjacent field) and pursue an internship in a digital marketing role. For those mid-career, making a swap to a marketing agency might be a good place to start. For those more freelance or entrepreneurial, you can self-educate online with UA-cam, Google certifications, etc! Personally, I would start with learning paid media approaches & strategy... having a large focus on Meta & Google properties. The more expertise you have in that area, the more you'll be able to adapt and integrate into a digital marketing specialist role in the near future.

    Jenna help me get a job :( I dont know where I failed in the interviews, english is not my main language tho

    • @jennajustman

      Hey Carlos! I'm sure you're doing great in the interviews -- in my experience, digital marketing positions can be VERY competitive, so don't be discouraged! I'm planning a new video that will go into more detail about how to become a digital marketing specialist (since there are a few questions in this comment section about that!), BUT: if you believe your experience aligns well with the jobs you're applying for... my best advice is (a) persistence! (b) networking -- is there a friend of a friend who can put in a good word for you? and (c) be yourself in the interview. If you think language is a barrier, you can bring it up in the beginning by saying something like, "hey, English isn't my first language... but I'm really passionate about what I do and I think my experience can really add value because digital marketing is a universal language, and it's one I speak expertly!" Communicate at the start that anything you may struggle to say in English does not correlate to your expertise in the field.
