Thanks for watching man !! Hahah very true, it was only a matter of time !! Oh man I’ve been on the hunt for a good deal on one. It doesn’t seem like they’re ever available for “cheap” I may just have to bit the bullet one day and buy one. Everyone raves about them so I have to see what that’s all about !!
Yeah...they're my two favorite patterns...I have a couple of each. My favorite is my Hytest Craftsman I bought 7-8 years ago. It's virtually unused with factory bevel, no rust, Spotted Gum handle and 80% of the original green paint intact! Best part...I paid $35 plus $40 shipping from Australia. In it's condition I'm sure I could get $300 for it here in the states...though I would never want to sell it!
I have that exact same head...It and my Hytest 4.5# are my favorite axes. I also love the Jersey bit...but the polls are a little thicker than I prefer.
I have 20 something Connie’s but the one that gives me the googoos is an Emerson and stevens Connecticut forged in Oakland Maine. The handle is incredible and head is incredible the company is my favorite and I paid $10 bucks for it. It’s just up and down perfect
Can’t beat a Connie. Hands down my favorite pattern. One of my favorite axes I own is a Connecticut pattern Emerson and Stevens from a Maine. It’s on a beautifully curved vintage handle I scored it for 10 bucks. It chops it splits it’s the best. Also it was developed from the Dayton. Wide Dayton is essentially what it is. In the Tom Lamond book Southern New England in the Connecticut section it talks about the creation of the Connie axe.
Absolutely, Connie’s are awesome and they look great too !! Oh hell yeah man Emerson and Steve’s are sweet !!! I don’t really have any Maine axes except the on snow and neally wedge, I’d love to eventually find some more Maine brands !! And wow that’s a killer deal 10 bucks good deal 🤙. Heck yeah thank you for the info I really appreciate it, I’ll have to check that out !! Thanks for watching.
Heck yeah !!! I have that exact set up, Killinger French curve 🙌. I made a video with it !!! I’m glad we have similar taste 🤙 thank you so much for watching, do you have any videos chopping I’d love to check them out 👍
@@Running-with-skizers yeah they’re quite hard to come by, I paid a decent amount for this one if I remember correctly. Well I’ll take a look around I just may have one so we might have to change that and get you choppin with one 🤘
I have a Collins Legitimus (Connecticut Patter, I live in CT) from my great-grandfather's farm. I also found that when it has a proper edge you don't have to swing hard. Just focus on accuracy and the axe does the rest, the bonus being that it doesn't stick much with just an even swing. Note: unless the tree has a fairly large diameter, I don't tend to stand on it. The boots need some surface area to cleat on to. That handle that you are using is great! I gotta get on for the other Connie handle that broke on me, it was just too old and remarkably well used (as it ought to be, it's a Connie). That was a fun video to watch.
Thank you so much for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed the video !!! Heck yeah that’s awesome, love a Collins legitimus, I don’t have one yet but I always have my eye out !!! Really cool that you have a Connie and live on Connecticut !!! One of my favorite axes was made in Pennsylvania and I live in PA. I totally agree the tree was a bit small to stand on, but I love to test my balance every once in a while I suppose 😂 !! Oh man I love the whiskey river handles they’re great !!! Thank you so much again 🤙
You are correct sir! Haha the ML racer is definitely my favorite! Few people truly understand the feeling you get when you take your dream axe out and get to put it to work! You look really comfortable swinging that Connie. It’s a good fit! The Connie is a good little pattern. Sharpened right, it will handle about anything you put in front of it.
@@940joey2 I made a new channel with a more fitting name, my old channel was all over the place. Need a break from it, but I still want to put some content out, so I created a channel just for my training footage.
You know you got your axe tuned up nice when you get a smile in the first few hits. Awesome. Don't know if it was just the beautiful backdrop, but image quality seemed really nice in this one man! 500 subs! Congrats mate 👏 👍 🪓
Thank you so much Kurt !! Heck yeah man I’m really impressed with out how this axe turned out, can’t wait to get out and chop with it again !! Oh wow I can’t believe you noticed, that’s awesome, I actually filmed this on my phone. I’ve been having a lot of issues with the GoPro so I figured what the hell let’s try out the good ole IPhone. 🤙
Thank you and thank you so much for watching !!! I absolutely love this axe, I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out !! This axe quickly became my “go to axe” !! 👍
I make axe handles from logs. No power tools. That curve is for appearences only. A four pound axe head on a slightly curved handle does the trick. Heavy duty tho, I use it as a maul
Excellent video! I need to get into the woods soon. That Connie came out great and looks like it performed equally as well. Last night I sharpened up both my plumb Connie and Dayton and this definitely has me longing to be out chopping. Great job👍
Thank you so much !!! Man I love this set up I can’t wait to get out and chop with it again, I was really impressed with how good it felt and how well it chopped !! Hell yeah man that’s awesome, I hope you do a video on them 🤙
@940Joey unfortunately I didn't record the sharpening, but I did grab a few clips for shorts. I need to pick up a bevel gauge. I took both of them to a spot that seemed about right. Hopefully I get out swinging them soon 🤞
I agree with your assessment on Connies being very similar to Jerseys, but I have a Collins Legitimus Connie that has very thin cheeks almost like some Ochsenkopfs I've seen. Haven't hung it yet to see how it chops though.
Thank you so much for watching !! Yeah I was sitting in my basement Connie in one hand and Jersey in the other both TT flint edge and I’m like damn they’re essentially the same axe !! Huh that’s really interesting, I bet that thing is a killer chopping axe !! I wonder if all Collins connies are like that. I’ve never seen one in person, it would be cool to get a couple connies from different manufactures and compare them !!
Thank you so much for watching !!! Oh totally agree these handle by far are my absolute favorite !!! 26” would be awesome !!! I actually just hung another Connie the other day and I was able to get it to just under 27”. It’s somewhere between 26 3/4 and 26 7/8” so it’s pretty darn close. But here your hand actually sits on the handle is easily 26 !! I love how it feels.. I didn’t film that one yet, I just hung it like 2 days ago.
Thank you so much !! Oh man I know what you mean, I’ve been holding this handle for the right head !!! Man when you use it you’re going to fall in love !! They’re awesome 👍
Great video Joey !! I dont know which of my axes is my favorite. But I am yearning to have the time to get my Helko West German Australian pattern out again !! And my Elwell 4 1/2 lb tassie. And my normal winter axes of course. TT Woodslasher Michigan and the 1750 gram Pandel Rhineland pattern .Plus other's like the CT Boys axe Kevin sent me. (which is Suprisingly useful and great fun to use.
Thank you so much i really appreciate it !!! Heck yeah those are all awesome axes !! I’m not a big Michigan pattern axe lover but I will say they do have their place and I also reserve a Michigan for winter chopping. I’ve heard that’s why they have a rounded toe and heel and rounded pole to prevent chipping in cold weather chopping. I don’t know how true that is but I’ll run with that theory for now lol !! The CT boys axe is an outstanding axe for sure, I use the heck out of mine. It truly is my most used axe !! Thanks for watching and awesome comment 🤙
What do you think the deal was with the wedge coming out? You think it was a one off? Maybe the Linseed Oil contributed? Has that ever happened to you before?
So I don’t glue my wedges, I only use linseed oil as you know. Normally I let the axe sit a few days after hanging it to let the oil be absorbed by the eye wood and dry out. This particular time I went out immediately after hanging it because I was so excited. So I’m thinking because I gave the oil no cure time it was still very slippery and started working it’s way out.
I have a Flint Edge Connie and I love it as well. Can definitely be a bit sticky in some woods but in others it really shines. Glad you left the pitting, and that heritage handle certainly finishes off the vintage look.
Thank you so much !!! Hell yeah that’s awesome !! It was definitely a little sticky in this maple when it sunk in deep, I’m curious to see how it does in other wood. Thank you so much again, I’m so happy with how this axe came out I can’t stop looking at it !!
