Hi Brooks! Thanks so much for this video. Been trying to do this for years. Always hated waiting for OCR, the wait was a deal killer for me. Your video prompted me to buy a ScanSnap document scanner (I had NeatWorks before) from your site! My assistant is doing all my scanning at once to her desktop, then using Yep to tag, rename & files in the right places. OCR done in background while she does other stuff. Then use GoodSync to sync her docs with mine which also is backup.
Thank you for posting this Brooks, although sadly it seems to be outdated now as the software interfaces and option are different. I have tried to work it out, but have been running into a few difficulties. Any chance of an updated video. That would be great! Cheers
Hi Brooks, Why would you prefer using the Scan to Searchable PDF instead of the Scan Snap option? Is it because the ScanSnap option wont embed the index? If so I would definitely do it your way. Thank you for all your help.
I would like to have my scanner S1500 to NOT make me choose where to save a document if I want to pause between sections. In other words, I manually scan documents, but pause between some documents and do not want to save a pdf until ALL the documents in my 100-page package are scanned.
Thnx for your vid i just got my my iX500 today ;-) Wanted to ask you should i also install " abbyy finereader express edition for mac 8.3 " don't really now what the difference is between the installed "abbyy finereader for scansnap mac 5.0" ??
So disappointed with the new software. Actually built an external drive with High Sierra on it, so I can use the old software (which is much faster at batch processing). Thanks for the video. Great instructions!
With the current Version of ABBYY Finereader for ScanSnap 5.0 Mac Edition i had to choose the new Main Application "ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap.app" instead of "Scan to Searchable PDF.app" within the Tools folder. Otherwise it would just not do the OCR.
Now, I'm looking for a way to have a script that will run at night and automatically OCR all non-searchable PDFs on my hard drive at night. Perhaps it will look for an Open MetaData to keyword to see if the PDF has been OCRed. Then I will be able to find ANYTHING on my computer and my office will be very nearly paperless. Yeah! Any ideas? Abbyy FineReader does a fine job of OCRing so if anyone has the skills to write this script with Abbyy FineReader let me know.
For what it's worth. I just found a way of getting it by going to: scansnap manager > help > online update There you will be able to find Abbyy for scansnap. I had to install AutoOnlineUodater. Hope this helps.
