I had four teeth taken out without any crowding very recently... my bottom teeth were just tilted a little outwards and my upper palate was already very small. My orthodontist said that taking teeth out was better than IPR because according to him IPR would cause my teeth to be sensitive forever. He also said that I could not get an expander because my gums are already weak. Now I am still waiting for my extraction spaces to close, and as they are closing more and more, my tongue barely has space to fit. Also, I sing in a choir, and in singing, tongue space is very important, so I have been struggling with doing something I love. Be very grateful if you have not needed extractions during treatment! We take things for granted.

Me too! I still have some gaps because they could not close them completely from the 4 teeth being removed. :( at least they are on the sides.

I had to get two canine teeth taken out before I got braces. It took two years for them to fully grow in and looked horrible. I had to get braces for 18 months, but got them taken out exactly a year later, about six months early. I am so grateful that I got braces and it is not as bad as you think.
I learn a lot from this guy, more than school cuz he makes it sound interesting 💀
my sister had a very crowded mouth, her teeth where almost watching each other so taking those 4 teeth out, allowed her to have the space to pull her teeth in the right place, it took like 6 years for her to finish and now she has a very beautiful smile (she was bullied so much for her teeth back in high school so her new smile make her more confident to smile again)

I made research before getting brace and one of the ortho told me to remove 4 teeth, i said no he refused to treat me. Then i find one a bit far from home and he saved my teeths i'm almost done it's been alsmot 3 years (i'm an adult)
My orthodontist was initially going to take out 4 teeth with the crowding I had and the angle that my incisors are pushed, but he was still uncomfortable with the Invisalign treatment the company sent him, so he had a panel look at my case, and FOR NOW, they created a treatment that doesn't require taking 4 teeth out. I start my treatment next week, and we'll see where my teeth are at in 6 months, so hoping I don't have to have 4 teeth removed around that time. However there's a good chance that I may have to wear regular braces for 3-6 months after the Invisalign treatment.

Taking teeth out was in my case far from enough, had even to widen my upper jaw to make it fit
My mom and dad weren’t crazy about four teeth being pulled out of my mouth, but when the doctor showed that my mouth wasn’t big enough to have all those teeth with all the rest of my teeth, they said yeah go ahead and take them. Apparently have a very small mouth, not enough for all those teeth.
then you probably need an expander. that could’ve saved you the extractions
Can you explain why extraction is still practiced by orthodontists today? I was hesitant in getting the procedure done so I went to get a second opinion from a Harvard maxillofacial surgeon who said it was necessary. So of course, who am I to question his expertise? I’m still undergoing treatment with braces but I can’t help but wonder what if I hadn’t gotten the procedure. I still have doubts but all I can do is trust the process.

I lost my upper pre molars years ago so this is what I'm working with while in braces =/
I am upset I didn’t get braces when I was younger, but maybe now was the best time for me to get braces. Can you imagine braces in a few years from now ⚡️
After 14 months of Braces, I Still had a class 3 Underbite, Only had 4 more months of treatment left but my underbite only got a little bit better, In Conclusion I ended up removing both bottom molars & now I gotta have braces on for another 9 months to a year😭

In some cases there just ISN'T enough room for all your teeth. Especially if youre an adult and your palate is fused so you wont be able to expand without surgery. Also people are rarely going to be looking at you sideways so even if your teeth are pulled back your teeth will look perfect. Rather that than janky teeth and a good side profile.

I did my braces way back and had a permanent retainer. But I ended up with a flare teeth

My daughter is 12. She. We were told she needed 4 out because theirs a lot of teen and her mouth is too small. She had 2 on the bottom removed a year or so ago. Were still needing to go back to have the 2 uppers removed. I di wonder if its necessary though. But, its already too late.

Hey Dr i need help!!! please can you help me know what to make sure my dentist is doing i am only 53 and my dentist pulled all my teeth and ilts been over 3 weeks since the second set of teeth have been pulled and im so miserable and depressed i can’t even wear the dentures and im pretty sure im just gonna get the boot and sent away with my horrible fitting dentures and a mouth full of misery!!!
i know i didnt really explain it right but i hope i can talk to you sonehow i just want to know what to say to my dentist to make sure they correctly take care of me cause i feel like im just not an important client to them and this is very hard on me all the way around. thankyou and you are truly amazing!!

Go back and get them adjusted. It might take a while to get it right. Also there's probably a breaking in period while your gums get used to them. Don't worry, you'll get something that works.

My teeth is SO BIG there's no way polishing the teeth is going to help my case. My orthodontist said "the craziest overcrowding I ever witnessed". Even after 4 teeth removed, there's still no room for my wisdom teeth to properly come out

The Dentistry I go to is closed rn but I have a question for @Thebentist Or Anyone who is knowledgeable in dentistry. I got my first ever filling today and it was near the gum line and a little part of my gums turned black about 5 hours later. Would like to know what is going on.

Could be bruising and the blood clotting in the gums. Some fillings close to the gum line can irritate them. If you're still noticing discoloration go back to the dentist office.

I had 2 teeth taken out when I was kid
I had bottom teeth that were growing on top of my other teeth.
The dentist used nothing for pain, to numb my mouth.
All he used was a wooden tool to pull them, this was in the 80s when I was little kid.
Main reason why I don't like going to the dentist
Well if it was in the 80’s that explains why, I’m sure they take much more precautions nowadays

@thebentist I would love for you to comment on my crowding. I've been told I've got the most epic crowding seen, including being a university guinea pig with surgery being unaffordable.
I had to get my teeth removed as I had to many teeth for my mouth and they were to overcrowded 😭😭
But do you think it's better braces or invisalign?
Clear aligners are way less of a headache obviously because you can take them out when you need to. I have heard they work best on minor adjustments though.
