When I switched to toes out, my control improved 100%. Toes straight works for you. Toes out works for me.

I'm finally getting into riding after a 2 year break (my last instructor treated me like a little child and would always make me cry) so these videos are great!

Great lesson! What exercises and stretches might a rider do (off of the horse) to gain flexibility in the hips and legs, and strength in the core, to help make this easier? That might be a topic for another video or two?

I personally do pigeon pose for hip flexors every day one minute each side. I also do this every time before I ride. I found that I do not have any hip flexor tightness any longer. This exercise will also help your core. Also, I do a core routine 3x a week: two sets and all for a minute each set: supine low leg raise holds(make sure your back is flush with the ground or else you’re doing it wrong), slow motion mountain climbers/ lateral mountain climbers(activate for 3 seconds/hold for 3/deactivate for 3 and alternate legs), side planks. With all this, I’ve finally been able to break from my chair seat and rely on my core. My riding has improved a lot!

Such a useful video thank you! I’ve been riding 3 months and have been trouble with my leg aids and in my lesson today we worked on my leg and foot position and this really helped solidify everything I have been struggling with and what to do about it!

I adore your videos, they are so informative and clear. Even down to the clothing...some videos I watch the rider maybe wearing all black on a black horse...then its really hard to see what they are demonstrating. Also out of interest how tall are you? I am 5'11 it sounds silly but watching what I assume is another tall woman demonstrating correct and incorrect postures have made it much easier for me to understand the advice and translate it into my body whilst horesriding. I will try your stretching routine before my lesson tomorrow I cant wait. Thank you 😊

Thank you again these seem to be tailor made for as I really work on my saddle stability and the thungs to think about. If i could suggest maybe a video first things to think about or what to check once you are in the saddle and before you start to ride. Hey you may done this already and I have yet to come across it. Thank you again

Thank you so much for the lesson! I am a beginner at riding, I find it is hard for me to adjust kicking to signal the horse and back to a correct position right after, especially during the trot. Is there anything that I should pay attention to?

What balances you in the saddle the stirrups or your legs? Just started riding the ability to balance over the seat for trot is really confusing to me. Not sure if I should be using stirrups or squeezing legs to lift myself over saddle.

    I have a question
I started riding about 3 months ago
My coach always tells me to push with my thighs to the saddle and hold on to the horse
In this video, you said that we should not grab with our thighs
    I am really confused now

Hello and thank you for your very helpful videos! Your calm manner, the beautiful settings and clear instruction make the videos highly watchable and fun!
I love riding horses and haven't ridden for years, but recently rode for about 5 days straight at a family camp in Montana. Now I'd like to continue riding where we live (in Minnesota). During the basic trail rides in MT my right knee would start to hurt after a time in the saddle. I think it's because my knee or foot or calf was turned in such a way as to cause some slight pressure on the knee joint. Am I positioning my leg wrong or is the stirrup too high? Any ideas? I notice when I press my heel down and turn the toe out the knee hurts less.

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  3 роки тому

Hi😊 I’m so glad the videos have been a help to you!
It sounds like you might be applying to much pressure with your knee or thigh on one leg. Since we are all a little uneven it’s not uncommon to have one leg that wants to grip a little bit more.
In order to have relaxed and effective legs you need to transfer balance more into your Core strength and relax your legs:)
One thing to try is riding without stirrups at the walk. When doing this practice letting your legs hang and using your core to stabilize you.

      Hi😊
Thanks for reaching out 🐴 I’m so glad you found the videos helpful. One thing I have found is that when the thigh is not in a good position in the lower leg and slide around. Keeping your thigh in against the saddle with your knee reaching down can help to give you a more stable lower leg. Here are a couple of videos that may be a help👉ua-cam.com/video/u_bLuz1O0W0/v-deo.html

This is something that I really struggle with when riding. I have several instructors, some say my leg is too forward and some say its too far back. One of my instructors says that when riding you should be able to see the girth I'm really confused I'm 14. She always tells me to bring my "whole leg back" but I don't get that because when you're in posting trot you're constantly going up and down. :(((
