That harpsichord opening slays me every time!!!
1996...I lived in a little Midwestern town on the edge of the woods. My older stepsister had just come to live with us and she moved into the attic bedroom. In between playing around with my Microsoft Encarta CD Rom, crushing berries and mushrooms into a magic potion as a "nature witch" in the woods, and watching 7th Heaven, I would sneak into her room to look through all of my step sister's CDs. Boys for Pele rocked my world. That album's jacket art was absolutely shocking for my sheltered preteen mind. Nursing a pig on a filthy front porch?! I was appalled and yet at the same time...inspired. Months later sitting in the theater watching Twister on my very first "official" date, I heard this song come on as soon as Helen Hunt came on the screen. The 90s. Take me back to those simple, wonderful days.
Beautiful! Living in the Midwest during the 1990s was a wonderful experience.
When the film, TWISTER dropped we knew that movie was from our neck of the woods.
She was in her own zenith. Her talent is in a stratosphere above everyone else's.
She's an inept harpsichord player, making the beautiful instrument sound ugly. Her lyrics are atrociously bad. Her "talent" is questionable - she got by selling sex and self-pity.

@@graffitiwomen She is a child abuser ("Raspberry Swirl") and a gigantic fraud, and this is the absolute WORST harpsichord "playing" I have ever heard. It's astounding, the absolute nonsense people listen to and the wicked behaviour that they overlook.
@@tashaschneider1419 erm, you know that video was 'acting'. She is from my own home state and I've never heard a bad word spoke of her. You just sound more and more desperate with each comment and I feel bad for you, if your state of mind is such that you take videos to be 'real' and can't handle a human having some talent. If you're such a harpsichord fan, upload a video of yourself playing so we all can make our own minds up about who is better. It sounds like your head is in the toilet, lass, I do feel badly for you.
I hate how under-rated she is. She can appeal to many different people. I have always loved her. One song plays and now I will be stuck on her all day now.
Why do you wonder? Ever heard how Mr. Bach was underrated? Plus who heard about him in the depths of farm-lands? It takes BRAINS, knowledge and skills - not only a keyboard and some hormones - to compose such things, comprehend them and enjoy at the reception.

The lights, the bass and one of the most beautiful voices ever. The incomparable, Tori Amos.
I named my cat after the song she was bottle raised and very sick I nursed her back to health and she was a magical little cat ... I lost her but I always knew I would.

I remember when I was just a little kid, 9 years old or something and I was glued to the tv every time when this video came up. She's a gift sent from a different plain of existence, still gives me goosebumps whenever I see this.

Composer, lyricist, vocalist and pianist, and quite an excellent performer as well. She's the whole enchilada!
this is a song from Boys for Pele, where many songs reference other songs. This one references "My name is Tallulah" from Bugsy Malone (look for it) and that song is kind of about Tori (Tallulah "had her training in North Carolina", and additionally, Jodie Foster, who plays Tallulah, of the same age as Tori).
I believe this is a song about what Tori remembers from her early teens, when she started playing in gay bars in DC. The video is likely symbolic, as Tori has broken out from her bubble by playing in public.
This was on the "Twister" soundtrack haha. Cool movie.

My timeless favorite. Good when I was in my twenties, good now, in my forties.
I work in a plant that repairs rail cars, and the amount of safety violations that tori violated when she was using that torch are:
1. No leather flame retardant gloves for torch work.
2 No safety glasses
3. No flame resistant sleeves
4. This is optional, but a half face mask rated for fumes would have been ideal.
To be honest she really could have burned herself with that melted plastic is the only real danger. Anyways, love the video and song, and of course Tori!

The CD I bought back in high school actually had this mix on it. Wasn't til many years later that I knew this wasn't the original.

I have a bookcase FULL of over 200 unique and extremely rare cassettes, CDs, promos, advance copies, FYC copies, 2 boxes full of overflow CDs and even exclusive music he never released that he has sent me for my birthday in the past. I have t shirts, posters, countertop standees, and CD store exclusive 12x12 double sided cardboard posters for his 3rd, 4th, and 5th studio albums, and about 2 dozen european electronic music magazines with BT on the cover and with interviews. I've been collecting his work since 2003.

Sick and ahead of its time!
I'm 54, and have only just caught on to this woman. It doesn't matter where I am:- work, daughters place, shopping centre, hardware store.........the music is 95% 60's and 70's, with maybe one token 90's or noughties song in a given timeslot. Well hello.........well what about us? My generation sung stuff too! Remember, most songs are good songs, until you have to hear them every day, sometimes unwillingly. Every song I hear at work, I heard yesterday and the day before, etc. Yeah it's great to feel represented!
I hold the view that modern music should be the main content on radio, in shopping centres, etc, and if you want older stuff, play it at home later.
Who chooses shopping centre music anyway? They must think the customers have an average age of 76. 🤔😵

My theory: Talula is the person being sung to, a woman debating a potentially life-altering decision, sung from the perspective of her inner thoughts. The harpsichord represents the immediate concerns: like the judgment of others around her, societal expectations, and fear of devastating consequences. The harpsichord replicates musically the effect of "chasing tornadoes."
Tori's voice represents Talula's intuition, telling her wisdom of the ages. In this case, what her intuition tells her is that women have been challenged by silly men for ages. While the harpsichord chases tornadoes, the intuition line just sits there calmly, resting on top of the chaos of the moment. She knows that, in the end, the decision the woman makes is her own, whatever it is, and none of that harpsichord line really matters.
My favorite Tori tune of all time. As if you could actually pick just one, right?

She was my crush in the 90s. The only female artist I was ever seriously into. (Before Tori there was a small Debbie Gibson period that quickly vanished but the was 3 and a half years before “Little Earthquakes” album.. Debbie was a little teen girl, Tori was/is a woman.

Some of you may find this hard to believe, but I;ve studied Severe Storms and Tornadoes for some time now, I;ve spent time with actual storm chasers, they come up with some surprisingly effective ways to learn about tornadoes, I tell ya. I wish I knew what they're up to now...
Ha, somebody else here because of tornadoes. The movie turned me on to Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, Rusted Root and Tori Amos. Got to love this song, Tori Amos was sure a beautiful and alluring woman in 1996, so intelligent and so powerful. . and amazing choice for the Twister soundtrack. I'll probably be chasing tornadoes in Oklahoma next spring so Tori Amos will definitely be joining me on the drive.
This was my favorite song, out of most. I like Van Halen, and the rest as well, but this was my favorite.
I've actually seen an area hit by a tornado. Was very sobering, especially since some people died there. I remember it somewhat well.

@@brandonmoore7497 yea its a total classic. I love it so much too. There are two different version. One is slower and uses drums which is very refreshing, then you have the Tornado mix from the movie twister which was put on the charts
