I think in general we are witnessing a renaissance in motorsports. I think the F1 Netflix effect has spilled over into other series (as evidenced by me getting into Indycar via F1. Haha sample size of 1).
I think you could be right there! F1 is doing a lot to make motorsport relevant, Formula E also attracts a different type of fan and IndyCar as a consequence sweeps up other fans of other series now with just how competitive the racing is!
I think they’re both great in their own ways, as you’ve gone over in the video. With IndyCar, I personally love the close racing, as well the variety in terms of the tracks (e.g., ovals, street circuits, and dedicated tracks). On the other hand, with Formula 1, the brilliant engineering, classic tracks, and the storylines are amazing, too. To be honest, I feel like you can love both. If not, that’s fine too, because at the end of the day, racing is racing.
Absolutely agree with you. They are both wonderfully unique in their own way and plenty to enjoy in both. If you're a fan of 1 you are definitely going to find things to love in the other! Racing is racing 100% agree!
I think one of the differences was summed up by Romain Grosjean's Mid-Ohio vlog where he was just showing F1 fans how all of the IndyCar paddocks were open.
Absolutely and it's almost racing back to its roots. There isn't anything too flashy about it. They compete hard and fast on the race track but off it its a friendly and open environment and it's hard not to love that!
and the way he had a huge hit and could keep going. Even if F1 cars could race side by side, any touches would destroy those glass cars. I get its about safety and giving off energy in crashes to have stuff break off, but its too fragile
@@thanasisdakakis4775 Well the Williams this year isn't as bad as what it's been in previous years but your point still stands. But I think the point was IndyCar is a lot more driver focused, where F1's main focus is on the car build and engineering. And I think that's a fair comment because if F1 was driver focused Russell, Leclerc, Norris, Ricciardo, Vettel, Alonso, Gasly would all be I cars capable of regularly competing for race wins.
Nah give Alonso who 40+ one season in indycar he'll win the championship. Not even Alonso Even Mick Schumacher will win it. Indycar ain't shit. Indycar=F3
The appeal of modern F1 honestly escapes me. The lack of competition and track variety I don’t get it. I really hope they get back to a more competitive form of racing but it’s Indycar hands down for me.
I think that can be a lot of people's criticisms of F1 and why they have gone for the new regulations that will hope to tackle the lack of competition! Go team Indy though 😉
@@themaker2475There are ovals, street tracks and racing circuits too. And the ovals can be quite different, and it's a more challenging form of racing than you might think
Both series have their own merits. I follow both - F1 for its glamour and occasional hard charging racing. IndyCar I follow much closer just because I'm in America and watching them live is such a unique experience. The racing is also less predictable.
Absolutely Jon, and accessibility I think is a huge one. F1 traditionally bigger in Europe as a lot of the grand prices are on the continent and IndyCar has the footing in America as it is much easier access for those racing fans!
@@IndyFanatics my jaw dropped when I saw the paddock access cost for F1. Whew! Fyi, paddock access is free all the time at Road America. Kids under 16 also free. We'd literally be saying hello to the drivers while they're chatting with their engineers. I hope you guys visit Road America one of these days.
That is awesome with Road America and we would absolutely love to! Hoping this channel can help fund a trio over if it continues to grow and we can do some at the track coverage and as a fan channel cover fans thoughts after sessions like qualifying and the race!
Since I started following you guys and been watching your videos, it gets me excited that Indycar is starting to gather more appeal outside of the USA. I didn't become an Indycar fan until I went to the 97th Indy 500 (my first one and I was 27!), and immediately as the cars fired up I fell in love. When I was younger, I always thought F1 cars were cool, and I played F1 games from Mega Drive up through PS2. At that point in my 20's, I bought my '06 Subaru Impreza and was into rally racing and sportscars. It wasn't until I went to the 500 that I completely fell in love with open wheel. That jump started me to watch all forms of racing, attending IMSA, NASCAR, and Indycar races, as well as watching WEC and F1, and even Moto GP from time to time. I want to see F1 back where it belongs in America, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I would say I like Indycar better, I have been to a buncha races, try to get to the 500 every year and watch every race, but I have never seen F1 in person. BUT YOU GUYS ARE DEAD ON! Some of the positives of each can also be a negative. And it's not a game breaking negative, its just the difference between the 2 which makes them actually hard to compare. The MAJOR thing Indycar has right now, is not just the influx of youthful talent that have competitive rides, but also the Alonso effect. I have to give credit to Fernando for coming over here to try the 500. It was incredible when I saw him in Gasoline Alley at the Speedway like 10 feet from me. I mean we had Rossi come over from F1, but at first I didn't think he was going to make Indycar his home. Instead he wins the 500, Alonso comes over for an attempt, and now we have true young and experienced F1 talent on the grid. Just look at Ericson and Grosjean having legitimate chances to win, where they never had that in F1. It used to be, oh those guys will never beat Hamilton. And now it's like, wow those guys might beat Scott Dixon, lol. And on that note, I say F1 back at the Speedway, and we see Hamilton and Dixon do a seat swap. Something like that would just be benefits all around for F1 and Indycar.
Thanks for your comment! Loved hearing about your journey as a motorsport fan and what you love and interesting thoughts on getting F1 back to IMS! It definitely makes sense to race at the home of racing in America! But yeah the Alonso effect has been huge and depending on how his last years with Alpine go I still hold out hope he might do 1 full time season in the series which will be huge! It is great to see the likes of Grosjean and Ericsson in machinery to show their talent and enjoying their racing again! A car swap would be awesome but unfortunately it will never happen other than a promo video like Rossi and Hamilton.
As an American, both are awesome. But if indycar can get a more global schedule, a video game, and a few tweaks here and there, they will explode, at least it would seem that way.
I think they are in the prime position too. Formula E has grown in popularity a lot due to its close racing compared to F1, but IndyCar is the better product. If more people knew about it they would absolutely love it!
Definitely agree. Look how popular the virtual races were last year during the shutdowns. Plus with all the international talent (especially the young guys), this is the perfect opportunity for growth. The Cap is no fool. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a couple of international races pop up the next couple of years. My gut feeling? With his growing popularity and their overall craze, the track at Zandvoort would be the perfect foot in the door to the Euro market. Also a race somewhere in Mexico. Close by and a built-in fanbase with uber-popular Pato. That one would even draw crowds down from the US.
Mexico and Zandvoort would definitely be prime candidates I think Rox! The Dutch have shown their passion behind Max and Veekay is super talented as well. If Palou continues to succeed a race in Spain wouldn't be a bad idea to tap into! And a return to surfers paradise to help the fan base with Scotry Mc, Dixie and Power would probably be a smart move too! Probably too late to focus a stage around Taku but the Motegi race was popular I believe?
I hear there's a new Indycar game coming this year. One of the reasons why Indycar had a bit of a resurgence around the world in the 90s was when Papyrus released an excellent Indycar game that was better than the equivalent MicroProse F1 game. They did the same with NASCAR too. Shame they couldn't keep them going.
Absolutely and the gap between the two teams isn't too huge in terms of budget that if major investment is secured, you can keep up with them. But everyone can compete against everyone for sure!
I love indycar as its great for pure competition, with everyone having a chance of a win, with it not being impossible to take a championships form top teams, and it also has ovals. My love for F1 comes from my love of technology and engineering, and the David and goliath situation of F1 making every win or podium not by the mercs or verstappen feel extremely special. I love em both.
The F1 price for fan access is wild, but not unexpected. At my home track, Road America, fans can walk around the paddock and get a pic with a driver (if they can spot one) with the price of admission 😆 On race weekend, Kevin Magnussen was taking pictures with anyone who walked up before practice. Colton Herta zipped past me on his moped when I was walking back to my car at the end of the day.
Big thumbs up guys. Handled a difficult topic in a very entertaining and professional manner. I love both series but having grown up going to the races, Indy car will always be where my heart is. Plus nothing beats the 90's cart days
Thanks Eli! Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the kind words! And yeah if you have that affiliation with growing up and attending the races I think that series will easily take your heart like IndyCar has. Just so happens it backs it up being a great series as well!
Ive always been an F1 fan and have recently started watching Indy racing. I think the F1 can learn and Indy does some things better. How much of a deal saving tires has become in F1 is annoying. Indycars 2 tyre types makes it less of a factor. Indycars pitstop i think are cooler the 20 or so mechanics in F1 are too much also the refuling makes it more difficult and critical to get it right. It also gets the team more importance to a good race. I also like the rolling starts not to say standing are bad but F1 could adopt it for a few races. Also the point system in Indy is cool makes the fights in midfield interesting and i love how you can fix your car for 20 laps and still be able to get back in to the race. No blue flags is also cooler. The size of the grid is cool and also that the teams can have different number of drivers.
Thanks for the comment! Agree, certainly things F1 could take from IndyCar that could help improve its racing package as IndyCar feels like it leads the way in that aspect! Would be great to see the series learn from each other!
Its best not to have midrace fueling for safety and to push the engine manufacturers to go towards efficiency even if it means the entertainment factor suffers. The rest of your points are pretty agreeable 👍
@@alisaffary1047 It makes the strategy way better, Indycar uses corn ethanol as a fuel either way and Indycar isn't an engineering competition it's racing.
@@alisaffary1047 I disagree. Having to factor in fuel as part of your strategy can really stirs things up as it does in Indy car. Also if F1 one did re-fuel, that’s means they’d have a smaller fuel tank like Indy cars which means when things happen, like what happened to Roman Grosjean, there wouldn’t be a mass amount of fuel burning for longer. An Indy car has an 18.5 gallon fuel tank compared to F1’s 30 gallon. That’s almost 12 gallons of extra fuel to burn if there’s an accident like that. If Grosjean had been in an Indy car when that happened, that fire wouldn’t have lasted as long. Imo a smaller fuel tank like in Indy car. is safer.
Hey again guys... it’s JD from Indy!! Great job on this video! I went to every F1 race at Indy, and have been to 47 Indy 500’s!! I love the technology in F1, but, I prefer Indycar!
Hi JD from Indy! That's a serious amount of 500s under your belt! Super jealous of that, 50th coming up soon 😉 nice you were able to attend all the F1 races there too! It's another point for Team Indy as well it would appear!
I think F1 does a far better job telling the story of the race with their broadcasts. They also make qualifying much more exciting. Indycar races are far better from start to finish but they also need to up the pageantry of the prerace and podium celebrations. I really think Indycar is in a spot where they can start extending a few races a year internationally as well. Maybe one year do a Euro leg and the next an Asia/Aussie leg of the championship. They really have an opportunity to get bigger and draw in a ton of new fans.
Would completely agree with this, they nail the pageantry at the Indy 500! And detroit is pretty good, though likely to move away from Belle Isle now! Thanks for the comment!
I agree with what you said. In regards to the podiums however, podiums have just never been a big deal in any American racing series, NASCAR doesn’t even have podiums. In American series winning is really all that matters so the second and third place finishers usually aren’t really concerned about getting on a podium, more times than not they’re upset and disappointed and just want to get out of there, so I doubt they’ll ever emphasize any pageantry in regards to podiums. And honestly as an American, I personally have never quite understood the big deal F1 makes about podiums; we’re not talking the Olympics where you get a medal, we’re just talking about the first and second loser in the race. I guess it’s just part of a cultural difference. “Winning isn’t everything, winning is the ONLY thing” Vince Lombardi
Great video. I think we are lucky to be in a time when both series are strong like this as, like you said, they both offer something unique. I will say that I like the fact that a considerable percentage of indycars drivers aren’t billionaires kids… but that’s F1 for you I guess. Now if we can only get the glorious sounds of the trumpeting V10’s and screaming turbo V8’s back in there respective series we’ll truly be in a golden age.
Ah the engines screaming around again would be brilliant but sadly I think a thing of the past! But agree we are lucky to have both to nicely complement each other!
Indycar welcomes all to apply, but F1 is very much a clique that does not welcome new teams to join and makes anyone wanting to join feel unwelcome by forcing them to jump through various hoops. Just take a look at what's happening with Andretti. That's a shame because both series can be quite entertaining.
Indycar is much more competitive, hands down. F1 is cool, but we know who's going to win, no competition and very boring after the start. Toxic atmosphere
This season has been fairly competitive but if it goes the way of just Max dominating now, definitely won't help its entertainment case! The new regulations could help challenge some of their issues. But yeah IndyCar is so competitive throughout the field!
I was a massive F1 Fan until 2001. Since then, I haven’t missed an Indycar race. I still watch every F1 Race, although mostly by fast forwarding large portions of it…..you don’t miss anything watching F1 on FFWD
I'm a fan of both series. I favor IndyCar over F 1. I'm a fan of your Indy fanatics channel, but IndyCar IS solely to blame for the lack of a TV Series and for a video/computer game. It has made the mistake of thinking that promoting the series is outside of its responsibilities, and the series suffers for it. The race purses, especially for its signature Indy 500 event are paltry in comparison, and the distribution of wealth for the success of the series has favored the sanctioning organization over the teams and has hurt its growth since the formation of CART, and Dan Gurney's White Paper. If Gurney's vision was followed through, this video would be about how F 1 died and IndyCar thrived.
Thanks for the great comment David! Yeah I suppose the comment was more giving Penske and his administration time to get on top of things and drive it forward, but historically completely agree with you IndyCar/IRL/CART/USAC really didn't get it right and have suffered in the global and national motorsport market because of it!
@@IndyFanatics - To me, an old guy, the days of CART were the most heady days of American open-wheel racing. The competition of innovation was still there from the old day of USAC, but a greater emphasis was put on the on-track action. IndyCar today has just recently began to really recover from attempted murder of American open wheel racing by that idiot Tony George. I am happy to say that IndyCar today is providing a highly entertaining product, especially on the road courses, and hope it will continue to prosper.
While you are correct. Indycar was almost dead only some years ago. And the previous owners did a heck of a job to bring it to where it is today. They also did an amazing thing and offered the series and IMS to the o ly man they believed could take it to another level... That is Rodger Penske. There is already rumors of a Netflix type docuseries Indycar is pursuing as well as a racing game. Not to mention Indycar just bought its feeder series that was previously ran by a completely different organization. IMS has already seen massive upgrades and the car count is continuing to go higher and higher.
@@bkbaughn There is no way I can give much, if any, credit to the previous owners of the series for the relatively healthy IndyCar enjoys today beyond the cost saving safety engineered spec car the series uses. It has generally produced close exciting races and championship battles. I just don't think the car count increases without the sale of the series to Penske. The rumor of the TV series about IndyCar doesn't happen w/o Penske. All the trends upward begin largely after the sale talks begin the year b4 the sale itself. Dan Gurney was never in a position of wealth, or in later years health to buy and run the series. But for the series to survive it had to turn either to the Gurney philosophy outlined in his White Paper, or turn to the Penske philosophy. I really believe no other two people could have saved IndyCar after the disaster of "The Split". Changes to the race/championship purses, a better "revenue share", is the next change that has to occur. Otherwise the racing maxim will be "The best way to make a small fortune in racing is to enter the IndyCar series with a large one."
If you'd had asked me last year my answer would have immediately been F1! Having grown up watching this amazing series and it's incredible drivers I wouldn't have believed anything could rival it. Then a good friend of mine introduced me to IndyCar 😉 Now the choice is not so clear! IndyCar has opened my eyes to how racing can be with regards to the close wheel to wheel action and the possibilities of so many different race winners every time. I love that. I love much the drivers engage with the fans both in the paddock and on social media. As someone who tends to follow drivers rather than teams I really appreciate that. I love how much the driver makes the difference in IndyCar too! F1 will always be special to me because of the history and the memories that I have but there is def a new place in my heart for IndyCar 😊 I want way more people to experience and fall in love with it. It is such a great series that deserves way more recognition than it gets. The standard of drivers is so high it easily equals F1. I was really shocked at the price differences too! IndyCar is way more accessible to everyone which I think is so important especially in encouraging new fans in to the sport. Look at me waffle, I think I have my answer 😂
As always Kaitey, thanks for sharing your thoughts! And glad we opened your eyes to the world of IndyCar! It is a special series and with your love of the drivers its definitely something that was always going to appeal to you! IndyCar definitely does a lot of things good on that front! And it's great to watch and see! F1 and IndyCar are both brilliant in their own way and great to watch both!
Yeah I have never watched Moto GP for a sustained amount of time, but they are incredible what they do on track! A fantastic category of motorsport for sure!
I watch both and never miss a race, and the only thing that they have in common is they're single seater open wheel cars. I love indycar because of its openness and they really appreciate the fans, and it really is man and machine with unpredictable pitstops and thrilling on track action it really is the best of the best. I do appreciate F1 and it has a rich history like IndyCar, and its overall packaging is very flashy and glamorous, but it requires so much more than just man and machine and that is why I believe IndyCar is the more attractive series.
Yeah IndyCar keeps racing simple and is a Racers series for sure. You have to relly understand the nuances and technical side to appreciate what they are doing in F1 and for the average fan that's a lot of hard work to put in 😂
I'd argue the period between 2005-2012 was an incredible period for F1! And it's getting closer back to those days, will see how the new regs play out! But Indy is great and we love both!
I pay for F1 TV and like it. I actually like the way F1 is promoted and presented. There is lots of emphasis on fans getting to know the drivers and teams, and there is so many social media contributors that will explain it all. Indycar doesn't have anything close to this and I do not know who all the teams and all the drivers are. if Indycar has something like F1 TV that would be huge. And, I do not mean the Peacock app since that sucks and is not just for indycar, and I was not able to navigate and find past races (they may be there, but I could not find them). My preference? I like F1 better, but I also watch Indycar. Indycar can learn a lot by watching how F1 is promoted and presented, and making improvements can win over lots of people.
Yeah I'd agree F1 are a PR promotion machine. They really package F1 in a really easy accessible way and put it in people's faces and get people talking about it. IndyCar can definitely learn from the pros and also some of the mistakes F1 is making!
I love both. Indycar for the pure racing and F1 for racing as well but everything else F1 really really does incredibly well, the pit stops, politics and intrigue, glamour, speed, beautiful tracks and driver line up... oh and Kimi Räikkönen because he’s he best!
I can appreciate the history and prestige of F1 but what kind of sport takes greater pride in how much it spends on its equipment than the individual skill set of the driver. Particularly in F1 does merit go unrewarded and that makes for a rather dull and frustrating competition.
I would like to see a 3 race series each year between the top 10 finishers from both series using sports cars or LMP Cars. 2 tracks in Europe and 1 in the US for a season and 2 in the US and 1 in Europe the next. I think the Indy drivers will hold their own against the F1 guys and I think if you ask the F1 drivers about the IndyCar drivers you will find they have a lot of respect for them as drivers.
Came back to Indy after years away. I like where it’s headed though. The less ovals the better and I think Penske is of the same mind. I love the idea of a race or two outside North America. I’m hoping they do become more of a bit more of constructor series again. If that happens I suspect we will see some combination of Red Bull, Mercedes or Ferrari field a team. All have the ability to produce their own engines and have more good drivers than seats. This wouldn’t be great for the smaller teams but it should also be noted that 3 teams field 12 cars on any given weekend in Indycar. Regardless Indycar is moving in the right direction and that is great news for racing fans!
I think it is moving in the right direction, but Roger said he wanted more ovals and I'd agree. It's something that makes the series unique as a challenge and a more even balance between road courses, street courses and ovals would be great! I also see the benefits of making it as a constructor but I'm not sure you'd see the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull field teams in a direct competitor and making the racing closer actually helps differentiate. If it goes too close to F1 IndyCar would probably inevitably die out because it would just be a cheaper F1, and at the moment it's so much better than that.
Indycar Better racing, affordable tickets and you can walk in the pits. F1 High-tech , expensive and 5 good passes after lap 1 if you are lucky. And you have to mortgage the house to buy some team stuff.
Enjoy both. I'm an F1 guy because it's the one I've followed for over 30 years and I do appreciate the engineering aspects of it but the costs are ridiculous and it's that thing where, if you want to see wheel to wheel action....spec series like Indy or F2 are more exciting.
I think a fair summary of both and I think that's where a lot of people sit, the series they have followed the most tends to be the one they lean towards most!
Yes. I used to watch F1 and IndyCar. The differences between F1 and IndyCar now are massive. IndyCar is all I watch now. The one thing I feel IndyCar needs to do now is cut ties with NASCAR completely. IndyCar is going to continue growing in the next few years.
Yeah smart idea to probably distance itself from NASCAR but probably feels it needs it to help it as a series continue to grow but agree, feels like UndyCar is definitely on the up!
I agree with the end. Why just 1? I watch both religiously. And both have things I love. I can't wait to see what O'Ward can do in an F1 car. He is to test one after the season at some point. I'd also love to see more F1 drivers testing their merit at the Indy 500 like Alonso did. Regardless both series are great and into the future, it only looks like they will continue to improve substantially.
As a fellow UK IndyCar fan I love your work !! I’ve been to a few IndyCar races throughout they years courtesy of my girlfriend, she’s from Toronto so we’ve been going to Indy Toronto apart from these last couple of years, I love both F1 and IndyCar, the Indy500 is a must especially at my girlfriend’s house 🤣 another reason I love IndyCar are the engine sounds, don’t get me wrong the F1 engine sound nowadays have improved but I love the all mighty V8’s, IndyCar brings that nostalgia back for me with the beautiful sound.
Awesome Joey! What a great way to experience your girlfriends home town eh? Indy 500 sounds brilliant to watch with them 😂 glad you enjou the channel and the engines in IndyCar do sound awesome!
@@IndyFanatics Yes she is from Toronto, we actually met at Indy Toronto in 2016 when Will Power won 😂 I went there with my family, then we both met and we are here we we are today. She went back to her family in Canada just before the first lockdown started to be with her family. So we’ve not seen each other face to face for over a year, we do try and FaceTime each other everyday (especially about IndyCar 😂) of course we try and do it when the time is ok for both of us due to Canada being 5 hours behind.
Overall I think Indy has the better racing usually, which is quite important for a racing series, but think in nearly every other aspect f1 comes out on top
Yeah I would probably agree with that assessment Sam! But it tends to be what as a fan you lean towards and what makes you enjoy racing the most! Both great series though.
Great video guys and solid points for both series, I think F1 has been helped with this season being incredibly competitive and interesting, then you look at Indycar with the 7 different winners in the first 8 races and can’t help but get in to that as well
I think it would be really interesting to see it again. They did do it before but then went away from it with the 3 option tyres for a weekend as opposed to the primary and alternates!
I think Indycar attracts the best Racing Drivers while F1 attracts the best drivers over one lap. The race craft is so much better in indycar but F1 makes up for it with the pace of the cars not so much the drivers.
Absolutely, interesting that focus on speed over 1 lap l, never thought of that, might be true. Think tyre management becomes a factor as well as I like Sergio Perez but definitely wouldn't day he is a qualifier or particularly quick compared to his peers over one lap, but tyre management sets him a level above! Interesting point for sure!
I'm sorry but have you ever watched an F1 race? Qualification pace and race pace are two separate factors, with drivers being either better at one or the other, or a balance of both... The drivers in F1 are top class drivers, don't let the electronics and engineering fool you.
@@nonegone7170 I have, And your right it's more than just being quick on one lap it's about managing the pace and tires. Where indycar is about Managing the pace, tires fuel, and P2P all while competing against the best drivers in the same equipment. F1 has no racecraft skills in comparison just good tire management skills
@@Kyle86910 Nah that's unfair to the drivers in F1. For example, if their skill level was so much lower than Indy, how did someone like Romain Grosjean transition to it so easily? You don't get into F1 without being the crème de la crème.
@@nonegone7170 Debatable, Look at Magnusson he was 2 seconds off race pace in indycar and 3 sec off Qualy pace, Grosjean is clearly an adaptable driver. Barichello was an F1 Great and He got shit on in indycar. Some drivers have the talent some don't. You have to understand that most F1 drivers like a Hamilton Had big funding ever since karting and his deal with mclaren, So most F1 drivers have only ever driven Junior Formula cars on circuits similar to F1. Only a handful of F1 drivers have proven they can be competitive outside of F1. The drivers who stay in F1 their whole career usually do it for just the money or the recognition. Indycar is basically a race of champions from all sorts of top level motorsports including F1. Currently Indycar has 5 ex F1 drivers and none of them are close to leading the championship... F1 is just viewed as the pinnacle due to how much publicity and money the series spends. Indycar attracts the drivers who want to race against the best regardless of what there being paid. Hamilton in indycar would maybe be top 15 on a good day. It is just pure racing in indycar vs car development in F1. Even Grosjean said in an interview that indycar has the highest level of talent in any series he's competed in and he feels much more welcome in indycar making his motivation level be at an all time high.
I like F1... but I love IndyCar! F1 is so corporate, top-secret and not much access for fans. Also you can predict the same 5 or 6 teams will be P6-P1 every week. IndyCar on the other hand is all about the drivers and there's at least 10-12 that have the skill to podium just about every race depending on strategy and a little luck. The other thing I don't like about F1 is the manufacturer's title which can supplant the drivers at times. Obviously, there's much more money in F1 and drivers can become wealthy with huge salaries and sponsor deals but it just seems more fun to be an IndyCar driver...
And I think my friend you fall into the love of a driver focused championship which IndyCar definitely is! It really allows these talented guys who are part of the series to show what they've really got and push themselves to the limit to make the difference! It's fantastic to watch and agree, it depends what the different drivers thrive on but IndyCar looks much more of a family paddock than the F1 one!
@@IndyFanatics If you guys make it out to Long Beach let me know! We've got our tix and working on a press pass now... crash pad available with comfy sofas lol!
Lance we would absolutely love to! When travel restrictions are a thing of the past and the world has given Covid the boot we are going to try our hardest to get over there! And to the crown jewel of street circuits in the states what would there not be to love!
Very balanced informative video fella's. I think etertainment is the bottom line here..and I think the IndyCar series on a race to race basis delivers more. I was a big F1 fan since the early 70's but to me it has become more of an Engineering Championship..top drivers.. but without the money and being in a top team how can you succeed..I'm sure most of the drivers who for one reason or another have not made it in F1 would love the chance to compete in a series where money doesn't rule and you can demonstrate your skills on more of a level playing field..but that's not knocking F1 it is what it is..I still take a look at both but get more entertainment from IndyCar.
Yup think you hit the nail on the head Martyn! That difference between driver focused and engineering focus is the main divide and its what you lean more towards as a fan for sure! I think for a lot of people to give up 2 hours of their time the entertainment factor is a big one.
I love watching both categories. I just don’t like the time zones. Living in Australia I need to wake up at like 1am 🤣🤣🤣. The replays are always good but I already know the results lol.
Ah Luke it is a painful life waking up early in the mornings! It's not great for your sleep pattern following motorsport outside of Australia definitely 😂
Let's see FIA declared Indy racing the toughest category by far!! You can look for it. What's more!! past season 17 races, 12 different winners, 6 drivers to win the championship!! F1 great racing to spectacles, top racing companies, top drivers, past season Red Bull won 17 races, Max repeat as champion!! Love both, but gotta go with Indy!! Is just the driver and car!! There is no need for a team to tell what to do, just drive top speed!!
IndyCar is the best, period. I only wish the drivers of IndyCar get paid for the kind of racing they do. From what I know, IndyCar drivers get paid a fraction of what F1 drivers get. The G.O.A.T. of IndyCar (Scott Dixon) would easily be making $25 million + if he was in F1, but to my knowledge the best IndyCar drivers barely make $2 million in yearly salary. IndyCar has the best racing, and is the most competitive, but their drivers are some of the least paid in all of motorsports.
I think that's a fantastic point, I think we looked at it a bit in another video, but yeah IndyCar drivers are criminally underpaid. But as those TV ratings go up and the crowds grow and swell in size hopefully that is only going to attract more big sponsorship to the sport!
@@IndyFanatics I really hope so, it's gonna take a few years, but with Roger Penske at the top, I know he'll work his magic to attract big sponsorship. The series is in good hands with Penske, so I'm hopeful that IndyCar will be back to prominence by the end of the decade.
Yeah absolutely agree there. With Roger they have a guy who truly loves the series and as a competitor has been the most successful and has the best track record of attracting sponsorship. If anyone can do it, it's him!
Short answer: I love both equally. They're different in their own ways, both with their good and bad points. Not related to the video at all but I thought I'd share: I found out (by catching part of their UA-cam livestream) that at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year the big showpiece theme this year is Penske. There are cars from throughout the team's history, from their F1 car to NASCAR, Sportscars, of course plenty of IndyCars and even Scott McLaughlin's V8 Supercar! And The Captain himself is driving one of the cars up the hillclimb! All this and with the usual assortment of F1 cars, teams and drivers and you can perhaps imagine how much I wish I was there!
Absolutely! Both unique and both brilliant! Yeah when I realised I'd missed out on that display and Roger being there would of loved to have got to meet him and see if we could have had a chat! But yeah seen pictures and looked awesome!
@@IndyFanatics I went to Goodwood in 2019 with my Dad. Saw plenty of F1 cars (Ferrari F2004, Lotus 79, McLaren MP4/15 etc., and the theme was Michael Schumacher so plenty of his cars were around), but the best non-F1 cars I saw were the Mahindra Formula E car, the Volkswagen IDR (that thing is a monster), the McLaren M8D Can-Am car (also an absolute monster), the Audi Quattro Group B car, the Toyota TS050 LMP1 (which sadly didn't go up the hill) and the Penske PC-22 CART car, which apart from all the F1 cars was the car I really wanted to see and hear run up the hill. It would've been cool to see a V8 Supercar, but I don't think I'd have been as eager to see it then as I would be now! At one point I saw Nick Heidfeld preparing for his demo run in the Mahindra, at another I was walking around and almost bumped into Formula E driver Alexander Sims and on the last day we were there I was waiting in the queue outside McLaren's simulator that they had out for people to have a couple of laps around Monaco in (it was a very long queue, not helped by the fact that there was a power cut (suspicion fell on Red Bull next door with the Energy Station not far away) and I saw Carlos Sainz come in after taking the Can-Am car up the hill, but I didn't dare try and go over to him for fear of losing my spot in the queue! All in all, it was an amazing experience. (By the way, in the sim, I was aiming for a sub 1:30, having never driven an F1 sim before but having had years of experience in the Codemasters F1 game series but I knew I wouldn't match the times I can do on those. I did a 1:27, which I was quite happy with but maybe I could've been a bit quicker!)
Nice video lads. Is Indycar it better? Yes and no. It's comparing apples and oranges any more. You're spot on, F1 is much more focused on the technology, Indycar is more about the show. In years (decades) past, the cars were very similar, with similar performance. Lotus and AAR chassis from the mid 60's were virtually identical , (as I recall, the late Len Terry deigned all of them). McLaren cars of both series bore more than a passing resemblance in the 70's. The famed Chaparral 2k borrowed heavily from the Lotus 79, and the little known LR-02 Al Unser piloted in 1981 was an almost direct copy of the FW07. Not until the mid 80's did the design variances become pronounced. Pay drivers are nothing new to racing, and are not exclusive to F1, so I . There have been many pay drivers in Indycar over the years, often when a driver didn't have enough money for F1, he did have enough for Indycar. Though I don't know your familiarity with NASCAR, they (IMO) have the highest level of talent at the top. It gives me no pleasure to say that, it just a matter of economics. The amount of money a driver can earn racing NASCAR dwarfs Indycar, and talent will often migrate to such places. On the exposure front (games, TV shows, etc.), I think with Penske being in charge, it will improve. Keep in mind that for many years, CART and the speedway had a tenuous truce at best, and all out war at worst, making such ventures difficult, if not impossible. Also, Penske Corp./ Entertainment is much more capable. Hulman Co. was a family business and consequently, was limited. I'm curious to see what the attendance figures are for the 500 going forward. Before, they never had to release them as they were a private company. Now, the numbers will be available as the speedway is part of a publicly traded entity. The upside is now that the speedway is part of that entity that has other "arms" and far more resources behind it. Also, without throwing too much shade at other countries, I (perhaps selfishly) don't want to see Indycar outside the US (or, at the very least , North America). I have always viewed it as a uniquely American form of racing. Though I'm not sure this is entirely accurate, every country that has an F1 race seems to (rightfully) view it similar to how we view the 500 (though perhaps not to such a scale).
Scott as always interesting to hear your thoughts! And that line of yes and no, apples and oranges is spot on and hopefully what we got across in the video. They are similar in open wheel nature but thats where the similarities end! Wanted to focus on one very interesting point you made about the and NASCAR, fascinating. Yeah obviously that's where the big bucks are and think a Kyle Larson would be competitive as he shows so often in whatever he drives. NASCAR definitely seems to be the most accessible of the top level motorsports would love more driver swaps to see how they went but like Jimmie has shown and the likes on Montoya and Franchitti the other way, success in one doesn't guarantee success in the other and very difficult disciplines to excel in!
@@IndyFanatics Absolutely agree, a racer is a racer. Both Kyles (Larson and Busch), for example, would prosper wherever they went. It's easy to forget that Kurt Busch was ROY in 2014 as that was his lone race. Montoya was actually not a bad stock car driver, and had decent success in the tin tops. Franchitti's lone season was forgettable, but I've long suspected there was more than met the eye there. Johnson will likely fare better next year as he jumped into the deep end this year (new car and only twisties). What I find heartening anymore is the respect across disciplines drivers share now, when from the late 70's to the early 2000's, it wasn't always the case.
I have no doubt there was more behind Franchitti and no Montoya from what I've seen wasn't bad but didn't obviously achieve the heights of his success that he did in IndyCar! Absolutely the respect is brilliant to see between the drivers and appreciation for series. Whatever category you choose to follow there is something unique that makes it special and the talent will always be out there to appreciate!
Now you have Scott McLaughlin in the mix and boy gunning for his first Indycar title in the last race of the year this weekend, is pretty amazing given he's only in his second year in this sport. He's a proven race driver coming from the Australian Supercars series where he won 3 titles from 2018-2020, he's confident he can adapt and basically mirror the same attitude he's showed before to claim a dominant era in his name. Can't wait to him do exactly that soon.
I love both series. I love IndyCar for the variety of tracks and the competitive atmosphere. It's a driver's series. I love F1 for being the pinnacle of engineering and for classic circuits like Spa, Monza, Silverstone and Suzuka. The competition in F1 occurs midpack. The politics of F1 is definitely a negative... but the cars are beautiful.
Good sum up of your thoughts Harry and cover the differences and perks well too. Yeah the mid field actually is super competitive in F1 and is an enjoyable part of the series, but hard to sell to people who only care about the podium and race wins!
Indycar is the better overall series with the more prestigious single event in the Indy 500 while F1 has the storylines and greater engineering focus with the global outreach that indycar lacks. F1s seasons are much more inconsistent due to the nature of the series while the spec chassis of indycar provide greater wheel to wheel racing.
Think you sun up your thoughts well Jacob completely agree and that is a huge thing IndyCar has over F1, no single F1 race gets anywhere near the stature of the Indy 500
@@IndyFanatics agreed, I’d put most F1 races on the same level as the Long Beach gp. great classics that can deliver special races but can’t compete on the scope or size of the 500
Likewise F1 is underappreciated by a lot of people here in the US. Great video. You guys did a good job looking at both series and saying this is what's good and not good about both without being bias!! Awesome job!!
Thanks Rox! Glad you enjoyed the video 😁 glad you thought we covered the points well! Good point about F1, it is underappreciated but think that is starting to change!
As someone who lives in indianapolis so yes I have a little bias as I've been an indycar fan my whole life I prefer Indycar from the racing aspect, you never know who is going to win on race day, the racing is sooo close at every race. But I respect formula one for their technological innovations and I love their series and have been following it for years now.
Hey absolutely, you're always going to have a slight favourite with what you enjoy and living in Indianapolis will play a big factor I'm sure! That's awesome! But yeah both series should be respected for what they do! Great series!
Excellent commentary! IndyCar has become a drivers championship, F1 is now a manufacturing championship. One needs to look no further than George Russell filling in for Botas and nearly winning! (I'm not so sure MB denied him the win) And he was w/Williams, a last row team! Hello enters the Indy 500 in a one off. Wins. IndyCar has no power steering too. F1 was great, and while I grew sick of Michael S. Lewis can't hold a candle to him or Ayrton. Don't even mention him in the same breath as Jimmy Clark or Jackie Stewart. Classless imp if you ask me. Great job guys!
Glad you enjoyed the video Chip 😊 yup that's the key difference, one is a drivers championship and one is a engineering championship. Think harsh on Lewis, you can only beat what's put in front of you and the Ayrton's and Schumachers did also have dominant cars. Definitely cam think he's not the greatest ever, but I think for his generation he is one of the all time greats!
@@IndyFanatics I don't deny Lewis' talent, certainly top shelf driver, no question and will be regarded as an all time great. His disparaging remarks about Sir Jackie and Mario left a lot to be desired. His attitude is what kills his talent for me. All greats have the best equipment, but when Ayrton was w/ Champan and Schumi was w/Jordan, one could tell their brilliance. Lewis' career was cultivated from early teens w/ McClaren, thus leading to his undenied success. Thanks again for your great videos, this one was exceptionally good and factual!
Absolutely agree with you there Chip and with Lewis I think there will always be doubts and a like of a driver is entirely subjective! I think your qualms were fair. Thankyou Chip, your continued support on the videos is much appreciated as well as the time you take to comment and glad you found this video particularly good!
I just started watching F1 again after a ten year absence and am also watching my first full season of Indycar and so far the two Indycar races I have seen are head and shoulders above the three F1 races. There have been more lead changes in just ten laps of one Indycar race than in all all the laps of all 3 F1 races in total. The inclusion of ovals also offers more variety too. The only things that makes F1 better is that it is a world championship and not just a national championship and the commentary is better.
I'm hurt B-A-L that you think Crofty's commentary is better than ours 😔😂 but both are fantastic series like we said. Both to enjoy for motorsport fans but we do really love IndyCar! It is just so exciting and this season has been great so far!
@@IndyFanatics Oh nah mate, it's just the American commentary that I don't like! Why do you think I have you guys on during the race with the actual race commentary turned down. I hate the way American commentators talk like they are talking to primary school kids, have to explain even the most obvious things to their American audiences and always think American sports are the greatest in the world and everyone in the world watches them. A typical example of this was while I was watching today's second practise and they kept talking about how a corner was one of the most famous in the world, which I as a world wide motor racing fan hadn't even heard of. Similar to how Daytona proclaims itself as the international centre of motor racing, despite it only holding two major international races a year! At least everyone has heard of the Indy 500 but that stems from the days when it was part of the F1 calendar in the 50s and top F1 drivers used to take part in the 60s and early 70s.
@@B-A-L I know I was only kidding. I get they are overly excited for sure. I guess it's culture and what you're used to growing up, that's very much the American style and Crofty and bundle are very much the European style but its an interesting comparison
The biggest con of indycar is the tv contract and all the damn commercials. You can watch an entire F1 race without a single commercial. I like indycar better but they’ve got to fix their tv coverage
It is definitely frustrating but when you don't have the luxury of the financial backing that Formula One does you have to make money for the series in other ways
Like F1, but love IndyCar! We're lucky to have both, and hope they both figure out how to survive electrification. Which I feel will kill the heart and soul of sports cars, supercars, racing...
I wouldn't be too sure it will all go that way as there is alternatives being looked at! But if it does go that way big moment for motorsport! We are lucky to have both like you said and hope they survive!
F1 is only their drivers from F2, but if you look, F2 cars are not comparable with Indy, not even the driver!! All those drivers F2 only 2 can win a spot in F1 and gotta bring something more to them $$$!! Even Romain Grosjean in his channel talk about the difference in both categories and said Indy is more of a challenge you dont have a person telling you what do or if the car has something giving orders and there 33 drivers!! Groenjans who drive F1 for 10 years several podiums in his career but havent won a race at Indy!! Imagen who tough is to win Indy.
Just got into Indycar... It is more unpredictable, and the overtaking is bananas. The only negative thing I have with it....THE COMMERCIAL interruptions. It takes away from the focus and audio of wats going on on the track. If they didn't have that...it would be better than F1 imo
Yup the ads are a big negative for IndyCar atm but that's what happens with it being a smaller series. Unfortunately it can't afford to be ad free atm and that's a real shame!
@@IndyFanatics hopefully it will, because it's more exciting. Especially the last race with Rossi and Power. I was impressed how quickly Rossi closed the gap and almost got up to Will on the final lap. Nothing like that in F1. Definitely gonna be watching more
Indycar no question. Admittedly I’ve only seen a handful of F1 races. Not sure why Monaco is the premier F1 race. It is a parade of fast cars. Hardly any overtakes.
Ah Monaco is the race with most history and epitomises the glitz and the glam of the world. I wouldn't say its the premium event, I would say tracks like Silverstone, Spa and Monza are generally held in higher regard! And hey you love what you know and IndyCar is an awesome series!
I started watching IndyCar because of the boring races in F1 in the past couple of seasons, as well as the pandemic. Now both series have great racing, so I can see one after the other on a Sunday. Also given that they each have Dutch talent racing in them does not hurt either.
I believe IndyCar has the ability to be a much more competitive and interesting formula to watch than F1 ever could be. Upgrading the powerplant to incorporate hybrid power is essential moving forward being relevant to current motor trends,....but it's the driver roster that's going to drive this Formula the way it's looking to me! Although I live in Australia, I think keep racing in the America's but add a couple of more races to the calendar on F1 used tracks in Mexico, Rio, Canada and America too! Place yourselves as an F1 alternative,... and let the racing do the talking, they are far to engineering orientated in F1, and they've committed that way,... resulting in a 2 car series and generally 2 car races, and that's all you get! Scottie Mac will light it up and the rest will follow, I now see huge opportunity ahead for IndyCar. There's also audacious talent in Indy, atm O'Ward, Herta, Power, and another half dozen others, the series is alive and well!
Think as an alternative to F1 is definitely a smart idea. There is allowed to be more than one category of motorsport and more than 1 category of single seaters in motorsport. IndyCar you're right is stacked with talent, its super competitive and its brilliant to watch!
INDYCAR’s broadcast of the their races is much better imo. The camera views and commentary is amazing especially the footage they show throughout the entire race. That’s just my personal opinion though. I think being able to understand who the drivers are racing for in terms of constructors is much better in Formula 1. Obviously Indy doesn’t have constructor championships but it does make it easier to root for a team and driver the way it is set up in formula 1. Im new to all of this and Indy car makes it difficult to know what car you’re watching and what team they represent unless you know already going in (hard for a new fan to do).
I dont think one is better than the other F1 has better tracks Indy has better racing F1 has more drama Indy is more unpredictable Both have high stakes and lots of emotion I love watching both (that being said Indy has a much better ladder , and is a true meritocracy, unlike F1 where money rules, and without backing you cant get anywhere even if you are the next Lewis Hamilton in terms of talent)
Very different. F1 can claim to have the fastest most advanced and most expensive cars. That is the key, that series is a manufacturers championship. So you care about Mercedes vs Red Bull or McLaren vs Ferrari for third place. Indycar is basically missing this (yes, they have Chevy vs Honda). Indycar does take advantage of it's current spec series configuration making the cars able to follow closely and race more. It is definitely more of a drivers series with better on track racing. I enjoy both, but being honest, I am much more likely to doze off watching an F1 race.
Thanks for your thoughts! Great comment and agree! And I think with your last part IndyCar as a whole is definitely winning the entertainment battle atm!
A good balanced video. My only gripe is the inference that paid drivers in F1 are poor drivers. that is not the case . Out of 22 drivers on the grid in 2021 there were 3 paid drivers. They all did well in f3 and f2 coming in the worst case 5th in F2. Remember Michael Schumacher was a paid driver in F1. Scott Dixon is a legend in the US but hardly known outside motor racing circles in the rest of the world . He made the decision , having won the Indycar championship not to go to F1 and have to start as a test driver to prove how fast he was before getting a full drive. So we will never know how good an F1 driver he would have been. He took the safe option. Indycar drivers are great drivers but F1 looks for the very best in the world and pays them handsomely. A clear comparison is Lando Norris and Pato Oward both employed by Mclaren. Pato is a great driver but not good enough for F1. His record is not as good as the so called Paid drivers in F1 He is paid I am told between 1million dollars plus bonuses that could take it to two. Lando is hot property and he has just signed a four year upgraded contract reputed to be 15million dollars plus bonuses possibly taking it up to 20million. If there was an Indycar driver better than an f1 driver then he would be approached by F1 teams. Sadly it doesn't happen because there isnt an Indycar driver good enough at the moment.
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment! I would say we went too hard on that point for sure. The grid of drivers in F1 is an extremely talented bunch. I think it may be also a horses for courses type of situation. They are all very talented drivers. But the ones in F1 are probably more suited to that style of car and vice versa in IndyCar and also the same can be said for the sports car drivers. But I stretched certainly for a point in the video probably as I think IndyCar drivers are looked down as a whole in the European community, so was trying to big them up a bit more! Thanks for the feedback and for taking the time to write a good well thought out comment! Appreciated! 😊
If IndyCar can reactivate the passion of the amazing CART/ChampCar era it would be a real competitor to F1. But, and this is a really big _'BUT'_ if IndyCar gets a 3rd engine manufacturer, 2 more chassis, more international drivers and races in Japan, South America and Europe, F1 can get a real problem. But as long F1 is the only open wheel championship that competes on every continent it will stay #1.
I think another engine manufacturer is far more likely than chassis, I think they are quite happy being a driver focused championship without leaving a chassis battle, but guess 2 could be OK! The international calendar is a real possibility but think they want to carry on building the national calendar again as they are riding a wave of momentum! Globally F1 is definitely the more recognised and popular sporting category!
Honestly I prefer F1, but Indycar isn’t too far behind especially with how the in person experience was for me just at Mid Ohio. Both are quality in their own right and miles better than NASCAR at this point
And everyone is always going to have a preference or favourite but like you said you can enjoy both and it's enjoyable to attend the IndyCar races without breaking the bank too much in comparison!
I highly recommend people watch both sports they are both amazing Motorsport games they both have great tracks and a great competition I really love them both please watch them both you will love it
Good video. The budget cap didn't really do much for Redbull or Ferrari. They have always traded places, 1 year Ferrari will beat Redbull the next the otherwise around.
Yeah with Ian's comments here, with the likes of drive to survive I think its massively helping F1 to get a footing in the U.S market! But CART was great and IndyCar now is in the prime position to elevate itself again!
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT strictly speaking in terms of my enjoyment. I hate the cars since 2017. And drs. and pirelli. Oh please my american friends, keep indycar very different from f1!
I prefer IndyCar, but I watch both because I just like motorsports in general and on Sunday I can't get enough
Absolutely the way to go! People will have their personal preference either way but they are both great for sure!
I prefer f1 personal but I like the wheel to wheel racing in indycar and how close the Indycar field is
Same
I agree I watch all motor sports on Sunday I don’t discriminate it’s a win win for me all around
That’s how it happened for me, plus McClaren has a great Indy channel featuring O Ward and Rosenquist
Indycar = driver skill. F1 = more focused on engineering
Absolutely and that's how I always see it! And I think you have a greater appreciation of both series when you understand these focus'
Not exactly. I mean look at Russel and what he does in that Williams...
Indycar=F3
Juan Pablo Montoya and how he did in F1. Need I say more on where the best drivers are?
The appeal of modern F1 honestly escapes me. The lack of competition and track variety I don’t get it. I really hope they get back to a more competitive form of racing but it’s Indycar hands down for me.
I think that can be a lot of people's criticisms of F1 and why they have gone for the new regulations that will hope to tackle the lack of competition! Go team Indy though 😉
Wait, how does f1 have a lack of tracks and variety…. but Indy doesn’t?? You legit go in an oval.
@@themaker2475 yes plus you gotta remember the new tracks and most importantly the new cars this season
@@themaker2475 the Indy 500 is an oval and one of the hardest races in the world
@@themaker2475There are ovals, street tracks and racing circuits too.
A great person for a feature video would be Paul Newman!
Oooooooo
Co owner of Newman Haas? I think you are right would be a great guy to look at! Will add to the list!
Indycar racing is the best ovals, road courses and street racing and all over 100 years and hopefully over 200 years.
Excellent videos guys great commentary and visuals!
Thanks Michael! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment! 😁🙌
Yes. Easy. IndyCar is about teams, drivers and strategy, not who has the most money.
Absolutely and the gap between the two teams isn't too huge in terms of budget that if major investment is secured, you can keep up with them. But everyone can compete against everyone for sure!
IndyCar is my favorite.. but I do have to say.. as a Ferrari fan, we always have had the most money but find a way to lose every year😅
@Blaze Temp opinions are a thing, my friend. Its what makes the world interesting. If we all thought the same it would be dull.
@Blaze Temp lol.
Indycar all day!!
A man who wears his IndyCar heart on his sleeve love it Ty!
Absolutely great comment! Love your thoughts on both and highlighting how they can complement each other as a viewer! Both brilliant series for sure!
That is brilliant though isn't it! It means there is a real connection between the fans and the sport and think it will help it grow and grow!
Good luck with the comments!
(Love them both, but IndyCar all the way😅)
Thankyou mate! We are ready to fight 😉 good man, wear your heart on your sleeve!
@@IndyFanatics will do!🏁
Ive always been an F1 fan and have recently started watching Indy racing.
And Indy car liveries look better
“Winning isn’t everything, winning is the ONLY thing”
Vince Lombardi
@@IndyFanatics nah with the new car teams like Ferrari are going up and Mercedes are going down
F1 has glamour and variety in venues and ethnic culture that all other motorsport lacks.
I was a massive F1 Fan until 2001. Since then, I haven’t missed an Indycar race. I still watch every F1 Race, although mostly by fast forwarding large portions of it…..you don’t miss anything watching F1 on FFWD
Thats serious dedication there! Great support for both series although Indy looks like it's def become your favourite!
F1 and indycar are both great in there own rights
Absolutely agree Gianni! Definitely room to love both!
F1 fan here about to watch my first ever Indy race at Barber thanks to your videos. Very hyped!
Enjoy the experience!!! It's a great series to follow! 😁
I’m a Brit…INDYCAR makes f1 look like a kids sport.might as well just put a tow rope on verstapen to pull the field round single file 🤣🤣🤣
Well done. One of your best!
Thankyou Tad! Appreciate that and glad you enjoyed! 😊🙌
I love all motorsport, f1, indycar, rally, rallycross, but most of all - MotoGP and Superbikes. They´re the true heroes and toughest of all !!!
Yeah I have never watched Moto GP for a sustained amount of time, but they are incredible what they do on track! A fantastic category of motorsport for sure!
As an American that never what happened open wheel racing, watching drive to survive, lead me back to indy car. Hope it grows globally!
Awesome! I'm glad it's working to attract single seater fans to both F1 and IndyCar!
Indycar is more about the drivers & F1 is about the car
I watch both and never miss a race, and the only thing that they have in common is they're single seater open wheel cars. I love indycar because of its openness and they really appreciate the fans, and it really is man and machine with unpredictable pitstops and thrilling on track action it really is the best of the best. I do appreciate F1 and it has a rich history like IndyCar, and its overall packaging is very flashy and glamorous, but it requires so much more than just man and machine and that is why I believe IndyCar is the more attractive series.
Yeah IndyCar keeps racing simple and is a Racers series for sure. You have to relly understand the nuances and technical side to appreciate what they are doing in F1 and for the average fan that's a lot of hard work to put in 😂
Indy is better than the actual F1. Until 90s F1 is incredible.
They just need to remove the coating on the outside of Texas banking that helps NASCAR and then IndyCar will be the best
Yeah definitely need to sort that out at texas for sure! As it's been a brilliant oval in the past!
Or just switch race to COTA
I love both. Indycar for the pure racing and F1 for racing as well but everything else F1 really really does incredibly well, the pit stops, politics and intrigue, glamour, speed, beautiful tracks and driver line up... oh and Kimi Räikkönen because he’s he best!
Yeah I think a great sum up there the speed of the pit stops are super impressive! And yes Kimi is brilliant 🙌🙌🙌
Indycar
Better racing, affordable tickets and you can walk in the pits.
F1
High-tech , expensive and 5 good passes after lap 1 if you are lucky.
And you have to mortgage the house to buy some team stuff.
The cost in F1 is definitely astronomical and the merch can be very pricey 😂 IndyCar is definitely more attractive to the average fan I reckon!
I prefer IndyCar
It's a great series John! What's not to love!
@@IndyFanatics I mean there are some IndyCar races that were snoozefests. It's not perfect but it's very enjoyable
Absolutely! Motorsport is better for having both categories and there is just a lot to enjoy in both series! The race fan is the real winner.
I love F1 for the theatrics and drama of it all, and I enjoy Indycar for the pure racing.
Absolutely elements in both that complement each other as a motorsport fan!
Americans are getting into F1 and Europeans are getting into indy this is awesome for both sports
Absolutely Frank! It's awesome news for both!
Great video guys and solid points for both series, I think F1 has been helped with this season being incredibly competitive and interesting, then you look at Indycar with the 7 different winners in the first 8 races and can’t help but get in to that as well
Yup absolutely agree, F1 definitely needed this season! But both have been fantastic this year and the future looks bright in both!
I think mandatory all tire compounds use in F1 would be interesting.

As an American I'd like to say I love watching your Supercars series.
Ah Luke it is a painful life waking up early in the mornings! It's not great for your sleep pattern following motorsport outside of Australia definitely 😂
@@Golf8802 I love it too mate, it’s just a shame a lot of negative comments get posted on social media. Real fans just watch it and not complain.

Ah awesome Dominic! Thanks for sharing your experience at Goodwood! Was really great to read 😁 and awesome on the time as well! Well done!
I find Indy car to be better because it is not 2 drivers wining al the time formula one would be better if it had not been that way
Ah well yes the driver focused Indycar championship is super competitive and that definitely makes it entertaining!
@@IndyFanatics agreed, I’d put most F1 races on the same level as the Long Beach gp. great classics that can deliver special races but can’t compete on the scope or size of the 500
Yup 100% with you on that one 👍
I prefer f1 because it better than Indy car because f1 drive over 225 mph.
I prefer INDYCAR hands down
More competition than F1
And better all around racing
The driver focused series definitely leads to closer competition throughout the field definitely!
Fans don't need to choose one or the other. Both of them are fun circuits to follow! Personally I follow Indycar closely, and F1 casually.
Absolutely agree, there is enjoyment in both to compliment each other rather than rival each other!
Remember that indycar and f1 used to share the indy 500
Indycar is gets game for 2023
It certainly is and that's awesome news!!!
Definitely gonna be watching more
Oh boy, the comment section should be a time.
Fully expecting a load of comments basing their answers off the thumbnail 😂
Ah awesome you've become a fan of both!!! Yeah Max and Veekay are both talented drivers!
Firestone brings a different tire to nearly every track
They do adjust the compound for the right race tyre absolutely but will always be labelled the black primes and alternate reds!
I dont think one is better than the other
F1 has better tracks
Indy has better racing
F1 has more drama
Indy is more unpredictable
Both have high stakes and lots of emotion
I love watching both
(that being said Indy has a much better ladder , and is a true meritocracy, unlike F1 where money rules, and without backing you cant get anywhere even if you are the next Lewis Hamilton in terms of talent)
Yup they both are great for different reasons and both have had fantastic championships this year!!
@@IndyFanatics I agree with the points you've made
Tell us what what happened to Juan Pablo Montoya. A big star in Indy and a flop in F1.
@@dcadventures2394 Montoya wasnt a flop in F1 but out of all the big stars of Indycar He was one of the few to deserve a place in F1.
IndyCar doesn't have Drive to Survive fans. Big W.
I highly recommend people watch both sports they are both amazing Motorsport games they both have great tracks and a great competition I really love them both please watch them both you will love it
F1 is the pinnacle of Motorsport , Indy is amazing as well . The whole spectacle of F1 pushes it over the top for me .
Prefer Indycar due to the variety of the tracks. But both are great.
Yeah the variety of tracks are definitely a real asset in IndyCar! Love all 3 disciplines!
Respect F1 but love Indy
Got to wear your heart on your sleeve! It's hard not to live IndyCar atm!
Off topic: Ianperez48's Q&A is ending next week
Ah nice we will have to make sure we get something in!
Formula one.needs.the.f2 champion.automatically gets..ride.in.formula one
That is a very good point! If you wi that championship it should give you a guaranteed shot in F1!
I'm American but I started getting into F1 first so I'm excited about McLaren joining
Yeah it's really great they compete in both!
Love both equally
It's the best way to be!
Good video. The budget cap didn't really do much for Redbull or Ferrari. They have always traded places, 1 year Ferrari will beat Redbull the next the otherwise around.
Cart>f1>indycar but indy is on the rise again while f1 is declining.
Actually, F1 ratings have gone up in the US
Yeah with Ian's comments here, with the likes of drive to survive I think its massively helping F1 to get a footing in the U.S market! But CART was great and IndyCar now is in the prime position to elevate itself again!
