For builders of RV7, RV8, and RV9, the bottom wing skin can be riveted by one person, working alone. The wings on the RV14 and RV10 slightly larger but they can be riveted. This complain about the difficulty to rivet the bottom wing skin is totally unfounded, caused by the overhyped internet. After I told people they could do it by a single person, they went and tried it and got it done, without drama. Vans knows what is is doing.
I just noticed, the nutplate you used on access panela on the main spar looks to be the same size as the nutplate used in the skin.. the countersunk holes looks huge on the main spar?
Howdy Zed. The spar nutplates are standard, but the holes on the spar must be countersunk to accept the dimpled access cover; which is dimpled for a #8 screw head. The countersink for a #8 screw head is quite large.
Howdy Christian. I don't know how Vans handles riveting their quick build wings and I know people have done it different ways. The way my wife and I did it worked well for us. Is there an easier way? Maybe. Some claim the bottom skins can be riveted by a single person, that may be an option for you as well.
It doesn't look easy. Pulling the skin out so much with that wicked sharp edge (like a tin can) and trying to get your head back there to see. Looks like it's "Quick build or bust" for me.
Yes Tom, that is a Piper style blade type heated pitot. I don't know about the current Dynon pitots, but this one I was able to replace the cartridge heaters. It has a static port built in and it does not stick out as much as other non-blade types. I just prefer it over the others.
@@KaretakerAero Dear builder, I mean the most difficult part is to correctly plan the riveting sequences , being able anytime to handle the bucking bar . I found it difficult, even for my second RV8 . I have two tiny tungsten bucking bars, and it’s a brainstorming to find the good way to place the bb , most of time blindly. I have to say I worked alone , the wing on a flat table , and it was back painful . By the way your shop is beautifully clean , and your work is gorgeous .
I admire those who build aircraft by themselves. Riveting, for me, is still a mild challenge, so I am thankful I have help readily available when I need it. If you are able to get in there and do it alone, that is awesome! Thanks for the kind words.
@@KaretakerAero yeah I have been straining to hear for a while now.. Up to you but I'm just finding myself not watching last few videos thought give it a go again.. Don't expect you to run out spend money but thought I would let u know 1 more time that if ur not holding the phone can't watch it.. Cheers very detailed videos

Thank you for sharing this! 😃👍🏻 Did you use a 3x or 2x rivet gun? And what brand?
Howdy Tom. I use a 3X gun, not sure of the brand; it was part of a tool kit.

Hi, like the Work. Yes, it looks not so easy. How will Vans build this process? Do you know? Is there not an easier way to attach the skin? Thank you

I did the whole plane myself....100% no help.....piece of cake so easy

What is that pitot tube on there? Looks like a Piper style. What advantages does that one have over the Dynon version?

Do they give you an option to use pulled rivets on the bottom? That would sure make life easier.
Vans does not mention pulled rivets as an option.
These are usually all flush rivets, they have to be bucked
Pull rivet will probably be stronger but they are heavier, and they destroy the value of the plane
why do accelerate the most important part? Riveting the bottom skin is so hard ...
If I understand your comment correctly, the accelerated segments do not show any detail, it is just routine riveting that is repetitive.

I guess this just can’t be done without a helper
I agree with that! I don't see how it can be done alone. Even with help some areas are a pain.
Dude.. Phone users can't hear you
One of the two speakers on the camera gets covered by the tripod mount. One reason I usually just hold the camera.
