In 6th grade, we had a police officer visit our class one day. One of the things I remember from that visit was him explaining, "never point anything or even make a gesture of pointing something at a police officer." That was almost 30 yrs ago. Still remember as if it were yesterday.

The parents are to blame for not teaching their child how to behave with a policeman and that he should not run away but comply with all their demands.
The death of that "child" is 100% his fault. He ran away from the police while showing what they believed to be a gun. If that "child" pointed a "gun" at a private citizen, that citizen would be in the right to use Deadly Force to protect themselves.

Why are two teenage boys roaming the streets at 10:30pm with a pellet gun? My parents taught me to NEVER point any kind of gun at someone, and do whatever a policeman tells me. Okay, let's break this down. Officers stop them. He runs and is caught. Officers take him to the ground. He pulls a gun. Regardless of its a center fire or pellet gun. He then gets shot. No Lay, they didn't murder him. They reacted to a threat. Maybe your 13 year old relative shouldn't be running the streets with a realistic looking pellet gun and then pull it on the police..... just a thought. Your family failed.

The guy driving the car was not hurt at all and killed another, he made a mistake drinking and driving. The innocent person that was killed should not have lost their life over the poor choice the drunk driver made,but they did. The kid made a poor choice that cost him his life, it is unfortunate, but everyone has choices in life and some have bigger implications than others.

If you are a cop trying to do your job, you tell two people\kids you want to talk to them, they run & then during the pursuit one or both points a gun at you. At that moment anyone, an officer, you,me, your mother, uncle, friend would interpret that action as "They are planning on shooting at me, I need to shoot first or I may die tonight". The kid ran and was not shot, the kid got shot because he pointed the gun at the cop and the cop feared his life was in danger and was justified in defending his life. It is bad that this happened but the kid was in the wrong not the cop.

Lots of people upset but the officer defended himself against what he thought was a real threat which was someone who may be ready to pull the trigger on a glock. It could have been a plastic toy gun the kid pointed at the officer and the officer would still have been justified in shooting him because you do not know if the gun is real or fake, until after the fact.

Maybe because many fathers use pellet guns to teach their children gun safety or to prepare them for hunting. You're not supposed to carry them in public but use them at a range or if rural in your own back yard!
Because our society fetishizes firearms. It makes people feel powerful to handle guns, and they are an effective way to intimidate others. Some of those replica pellet guns are so realistic, in a struggle , at night, how are they suppose to tell in those fleeting seconds.
This kind of thing is just going to keep happening, don’t know why it surprises anyone. I don’t know how officers deal with the stress of so many firearms, never knowing when they will be shot at.

The police didn't "murder" - murder is unlawful and premeditated. This was lawful and not planned ahead of time. The police simply protected their own lives, big difference.
What I saw was a small kid on the ground being controlled by two officers when they shot him. That's anywhere from murder to gross negligence.

He pointed while he was running and wasnt shot then by the chasing cop. He proceeded to tackle the kid instead and still did not draw his gun. It was another cop who shot him. That cop wasnt even in a good position to shoot the kid since he could also hit the other cop. Looked more like an accidental discharge while pointing the gun at the kid..
I aint saying police werent justified but clearly they had other options in this case which wud not have led to a death..
