Each school of thought i.e. degree pathway, or department, is its own acting philosophy. Set inside the rules of language and communicating knowledge... Or from the students point of view gained pathways of knowing. Teaching is meta language, you are actively steering the outcome of the "conversation." The subjects change, but ways of communicating shouldn't. Most universities have similar style, even if they offer wildly different degree paths. The academic part is always academic. The way words are defined, depends on the subject. Terms may seem self evident inside of a given set of constraints, but that assumes, possibly too much, that the audience is in the same set. The cave analogy, when modernized to mean knowledge, shows us that because of the other minds problem... The best we can do is to broadcast what has generally been accepted as the best "conversations" to have, in any given field. Hopefully, while using scientific methodology, logic, and critical analysis to bolster any claims made.
Perhaps philosophy is this meta-language that deals with the sub-disciplines (including science and mathematics) of our knowledge?
The answer to the self imbedding problem... Un-imbed it! Construct a higher order language that defines it. Thanks Gödel. I will get right on that. 😉
Ah haha! It's high-order languages all the way down, mate!
Putting Sean Carroll in the thumbnail is dishonest clickbait.
Mea culpa.
