In my 4th Gen Runner, after every PINS trip, I pulled my skids and soaked the bolts in Concrete Etch, Metal Prep and Rust Inhibitor from home depot. Works great, and ensures you get to most of the places when cleaning. Always surprised how many sea shells were always in the skids.
Your Sandy is in excellent condition considering the amount of times you've have drove on the beach. Especially the high tide incident. From what I can tell your frame is solid.

I always recommend putting dab of engine oil or other lubricant on thread of bolts whenever you install parts. Youll be thanking yourself after few years if youll ever come back to unscrewing them to change something.
Hi Robert did you do some/extensive research before you got you shields, are this the best product in regards to the cat protection? I'm looking my self for something similar but I don't see many options for cat shields I have a 2018 GX460 with KDSS.
Hello Kike. It was a no brainer to go with RCI since they threw in the cat guards for free with the purchase of the tranny skid. So I paid full price for the engine and tranny skid and got the cat guards at zero charge. They cover them nicely and i feel it’s a good deterrent from theft.
@@CoastalGX ok one last question can I keep the OEM engine shield or the RCI will make a difference in regards to the safety of the cats? No Mods on my GX also mine I think it has the KDSS if this make a difference on the RCI engine plate.?

Is that the famous valley plate coolant leak creeping up?
Yes!! Sandy is that n the shop right now. Really hope they can sort it out. I didn’t know how common this was.
I have heard that where the AC drain hose touches the frame it will rust there. Have you noticed that as well?
No issues from AC drain, only from saltwater and moist sand. Those bolts were pitted!! Dangerous.
Robert is there any provision for oil and filter change or do you need to remove the entire engine plate for oil changes?
There are access ports in the plates. If you off-road often, you may want to add anti seize to the bolts to prevent issues in the future.
I see that coolant too, you might have the notorious valley plate leak as well.
She’s in the shop for that right now. Wish me luck.
