Will cleaning the glass results in the removal of the UV coating?

Hi Glenn, With the Museum glass the UV barrier is on the inside of the glass when the frame is finished so cleaning the outside will not affect the coating. With the UV70 type anti-reflective the coatings are chemically bonded to both surfaces and I expect if some abrasive type cleaner was used aggressively it may be possible to remove some of the coating. Usually it is best cleaned with a soft glass-specific microfibre cloth which wouldn't remove any coating.

Best framing technique is 'no glass' so the print can be easily viewed without reflections or diffusion.

Real glass is best and it must be thick.

The current trend is towards Anti-Reflectives where they are optically clear and in many cases filter harmful UV light. These types of glass add protection to the image or items being framed. The thickness is usually 2.1mm. With very large pieces there is a great anti-static and pretty much scratch-proof acrylic called Optium Museum Acrylic. It varies in thickness between 3mm and 4.5mm depending on size requirements. Some of the large sheets are as big as 3000 x 1500mm.
