I agree, this film was great! They could have connected it to the Evil Dead "Universe" a bit more, but other than that it was quite acceptable.
In other news, you look absolutely gorgeous!

Awe shucks thanks! I do agree. I think they handled it as well as they could, but there is always room for improvement.

Really smart, articulate and insightful review!
You talked about it being a bit of a horror comedy, and I agree there's a definite undertone of over-the-top campiness/absurdity in many scenes (and perhaps even the whole 'feel' of the movie), though I personally wouldn't call it a horror comedy, more like a horror movie that doesn't take itself overly seriously, if that makes sense.
However, on that topic, a great horror comedy I'd like to recommend is Housebound (2014). It's a little New Zealand gem that's grossly underrated. It manages to handle the balance extremely well between moments of great hilarity and moments of genuinely scary tension. Awesome acting, characters, tons of plot twists (go in blind if you don't wanna be spoiled). I highly recommend!

I put this one up there is PREY. It takes the concept and does a big change of setting and somehow makes the whole thing more true to the spirit of the original.

OMG THANK YOU. I actually loved Prey for this exact reason. It felt like a well updated Predator movie. Don't get the hate on that one.

Not a remake, but I would love to hear your take on Talk to Me. I didn’t think a horror movie was gonna top Evil Dead Rise for me this year, but I was pleasantly surprised

Happy to see you reviewing this new evil dead movie. There would be no movie if not for the brother at 3:13 also perfect comparison at 4:26 I like Ellie as the deadite in this evil dead movie to she dominates this movie.

Great video as always!. Personally, I found this film to be just okay. As a stand alone film it's fine for what it is, but as an Evil Dead film, it just didn't work for me, it was just too far removed from the Evil Dead universe. I also felt that the little nods to the other films just felt forced. To me it felt like it had far more in common with Demons/Demons 2 and on at least a couple of occasions I genuinely thought I was watching one of those movies. As a modern horror film it's okay, not bad by any means, but I really hope they just leave the Evil Dead franchise alone from now on.

I don't agree, but I respect the opinion. I think what this movie is truly missing (and what more Evil Dead movies will need to rectify) is a lack of Ash or an Ash William's esque character. Some could argue that it's not really an Evil Dead movie without Bruce Campbell and to let sleeping dogs just die already. But I can't help but think we could get more out of this under explored universe, unlike some horror remakes that feel like they are beating the subject matter to death.

@@GirlBehindTheCounter We seem to pretty much agree on most things horror/exploitation related so we can agree to disagree at least once. 😀 You are right though, if there's going to be more in the franchise then an Ash type character is needed to tie them together. I've only seen Rise a couple of times so far, so maybe after a few more viewings I'll see it differently.

@@GirlBehindTheCounter Rise for sure. Most movies have been in the "meh" category for me.
