I have a pair of the Limited Edition 75th Anniversary L100's which have upgraded crossovers, drivers and dual input posts. Sounds like JBL added those improvments to the MkII, minus the Teak veneeer on all sides. :) The L100's are indeed "not" just a rock n roll speaker. I listen to as much Classical and Jazz as anything else, and electronic music as well. The JBL's excel at all types of music with neutrality and dynamics. I drive mine with an NAD C298 which is a very nice match. Great speakers!
Audio Advice should show the impulse response of speakers vs azimuth angle, and when comparing different designs. That's where spatial coherence really matters as in wideband coaxial/coincident drivers or planar arrays. They covered all of the dynamic range and spectrum quality bases with this JBL design, except for consistent spatial response.
My dad has a pair of CF120s by jbl that look very similar to these. Cant believe how good they sound even to todays standards. I love the retro comeback
@@MuscleBN yes it’s a budget line called the La Series. Then they will be releasing a higher end real wood veneer magnetic grille line called the LSD series however unfortunately it is still a narrow baffle speaker the largest being a 8”. I would like to see a 12” and possibly 15” high end 3 way.
90dB at 4 ohms is certainly a big change. What ever happened to ratings based on 8ohms? I have original L100’s in excellent condition with new brown grills. I also have the steel stands that are shown in the first photos. The only thing not original are the binding posts which have been replaced with brass high quality posts. I’m thinking of selling them but I can’t come up with a fair price. The only reason I’m thinking about selling is I’ve had them since I bought them in 1975 and I want to try something different.
I remember looking at these when our ship was in Japan in 1978. I wanted them so bad! I see the foam woofers have all rotted now and is JBL still using foam surrounds?
I was finally able to visit your store at Raleigh NC as were staying nearby visiting family. There we met Steve L. which was very patient and helpful to us. He will be the guy I'll reach when I am ready to purchase the Anthem MRX1140 and possible the Epson LS1200. Please tell him that I said 'Go Steelers' hopefully he remembers me. Thanks!!
i think Spendor should bring back the Vintage Spendor S100 line...they made a classic line called Spendor 100 Classic... they are not the same as the older vintage speakers...the sound is not the same and at a 12,000 price tag...
I had a pair of these when I was a kid... they sounded great but they are a dust magnet ..... don't let a cat near them if you like the grill covers...
I always been a fan of jbl for the quality built from the cabinets along with the quality of the drivers. Cross over components are decent as well. But the draw back of the speakers is they are so bright in the midrange area. I prefer a more warm sounding speaker.
Wtf do you expect manufactured in California. Their employees have to pay $1800/month reparation tax and $6.50/gallon for gas. $2400 is a week’s worth of rent. The guy who puts these together is probably making over $100/hr plus benefits.

I love the classic look. Great to hear about the improvements JBL made.
Agreed. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the suggestion.
Bought a pair of these mkii back in August. I like them a lot
Awesome! Glad you enjot them!
I'm still jamming out with my old original JBL 100.
That is awesome!! Thanks for sharing
My dad has a pair of CF120s by jbl that look very similar to these. Cant believe how good they sound even to todays standards. I love the retro comeback
That is a fun vintage speaker that could really rock! Thanks for watching.
LOVE the previous versions and can't wait to hear these!
We hope you get a chance soon!
Loving the vintage look
Agreed!
And the ugly vintage crossover parts 😅😅
Still have my JBL LX 500 pair, and really enjoy them. Still look like new.
Glad you are enjoying them, thanks for watching
Great review! It’s great JBL is doing these modern classics! Now if CerwinVega! Would just do the same thing 👍🏻😃
Agreed!
Cerwin Vega does actually have a brand new line out

We guess these turned out to be 4 ohms with the crossover upgrade, it is interesting. Enjoy your JBL's!
Hopefully they sound as good as the original centurys. absolutely amongst the best speakers ever.
They sound very very good!
I remember looking at these when our ship was in Japan in 1978. I wanted them so bad! I see the foam woofers have all rotted now and is JBL still using foam surrounds?
No they are rubber surrounds now..not to many manufacturers use foam anymore
Foam was very common at that time period, but not anymore. No one uses foam to our knowledge now
One of my favorite speakers 🤩
They are amazing and we love the look!
Have these in the black piano finish. A brilliant speaker!
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for the review!!!Do you know if the smaller model the L82 is suitable for nearfield listening aprox 4,5 feet in a small room?
You are welcome. Yes, those should work fine at that distance.
@@AudioAdvice thank you so much!!!

We will pass this on to Steve. We really appreciate you sharing your experience.
I remember! Glad you were able to make it in to the showroom, it was great to meet you. Let's go Steelers!
@@stevelucey7719 You got it!
I’ll watch later, but can someone tell me why these speakers are not mirrored??
That is a good question. We hope you enjoy the video
I was wondering that too. But with a crossover point of 450 Hz, the offset is inconsequential.
Zu blöd hält die Front vor dem fräsen zu drehen!😅😅👎👎🇩🇪
Being that I am a huge JBL fan, I would get these - despite the price.
They did a great job with them! If you'd like to support us, you can buy them here: www.audioadvice.com/jbl-l100-classic-mkii-loudspeaker+color-Black
How would the Mark II fair vs the Classic 75 version? Which is Better?
They should be very similar. Feel free to call or chat with our experts at audioadvice.com and they can help you compare the two even more!
I wonder how they would compare with Arendal 1723 THX Monitor speakers in SQ.
We have not compared but thanks for the suggetion!
what is the price gaurantee on the mk11 JBL l100 speakers?
We make sure we are charging the best and lowest price on the market!
The grilles need to be magnetic. Perhaps in their future versions of the L series speakers.
We suspect they are sticking with the pegs for the retro design. Thanks for watching

Haha, good point! Thanks for sharing and watching
Look great but agree not happy with the cost and additional charge for the stands. KLH includes the stands in their models.
Fair enough. While you don't need the stands if you have a spot to put them already, they are necessary if you don't.
Take a listen to these gems. They are incredible ! These weren’t designed as a “budget speaker”
Glad you got to hear them and thanks for sharing your impressions!

What speakers do you recommend over l100 classic at lower cost and warm sounding
I want to see the video guy with his hair blowing back like the famous poster
Haha, great idea! 😆
Ca. You buy grills?
If you mean replacement grills for this model yes. Thanks for watching
WOW.. So it's not really a "L100", is it.. NOt a criticism.. I'd love a pair, especially to compare to my originals ;-))))
That is right, greatly improved, but looks very similar. We have them on display in our stores, if you are in the Carolinas, drop by sometime.
"stand mount" ....pretty damn big for stand mount
They make special stands for them that are low to the floor and tilt it back at a good angle. But yes, very large speakers.
My problem with JBL(new) is their durability. Very easily damaged exterior including grills.
Interesting, we have not seen that to be the case
Super beefy woofers. Makes Klipsch Heritage woofers look like soda cans, lol.
Haha. Thanks for sharing
$4800 for the pair. oof
They aren't inexpensive but provide a lot for the price!
the failure here is that everybody thinks the mki is the 70s version...
Yes it just looks similar from the outside. Thanks for sharing
@@AudioAdvice not saying on ur part, more on JBLs part...
not impressed with $2400 a piece price tag.
Fair enough. The older model is discounted at a great price!
Anyone know how much these were back in the day?

that's hilarious dude! but so true.@@rxw5520
Umm if you look closely they are made in China@@rxw5520
It would been awesome if they made them powered speakers with Bluetooth capability
That would be pretty cool, although we suspect that would put them around 10K to do it right. Thanks for watching
😅😅😅6000€/ pair for the black edition ist the biggest joke. Madi in china.
Fair enough
How about made in🎉 India? Better yet made in us😮 by high school drop out?

😅😅😅4500€ in germany 😅😅
Overpriced, at least they look cool.
Fair enough. They certainly look and sound awesome.
